Good for you taking well-deserved a break Doug. You could never make a video again, and you'll always be regarded as one of the best, if not THE best, wood carving teachers on this platform. We'll be here when you're ready to come back.

Doug ...When your hobby no longer becomes fun ..Then it becomes work and work is just more stressful .. From a idiot like myself who did video's since 2013 ..So much has happened in my life since then ..Now Iam 70 years old and I have just looked at it like this .. If in all my years of making video's ..If I have helped one person learned to love the wonderful art of whittling ..Then I feel I have had done something worthwhile in my life ..Perhaps Iam simple ..But comments and subscribers have always meant nothing to me ..Only that I have helped someone love the art ..Take that break and enjoy your family in life ..Subscribers and comment's will always come and go ..But they will never be there when you really need someone most ..God Bless Doug and Alec

Take time for yourself @dougLinker, I'll be here to watch whatever videos you release whenever you release them. I can't speak for everyone, but I watch each of your videos multiple times, including pausing/carving/pausing while I'm recreating each of your pieces. I'm working on filling my carving shelf with my carvings of your projects. If you slow down releasing new videos, that's perfectly fine, I'll just go back and watch/carve your older projects. Happy New Year!

Doug really appreciate all that you have done for carving. You have helped me gain my confidence to try this. I really enjoy your approach to promoting all aspects of this from wood, knives, painting and carving. I realize how much work you put into these and hope you know that it is appreciated. KZread as a pressure to do more is honestly not what life should be... I read a book with "do what you love and the money will come" easy for me I am retired, but want you to know that you have helped me learn and challenge my brain. I have looked at a lot of carving videos from others, but you are a true winner. thanks so much

I've been starting to carve since last fall, and Doug Linker has been my biggest inspiration into wood carving with the many characters, and his teaching skills are definitely my biggest help. He's gifted in carving and thinking how to develop characters, but the tops of his skills are his teaching abilities, which is my opinion. I'm on a website and now finding he is influenced by a large crowd of wood carving . Alex, your fame is also mentioned often on the website I'm owning most of my beginning to you both. Alex, my wife, loves the white mouse. I tried to copy like your mouse .I've worked union and union's effect on the USA iss who built the country and remember their influence gave us the weekend and Sunday off except for Preachers and emergency work Abilities should be put to use, but be honest with your talents is fair. Thanks for having you both. Any time you need off day is OK Yes about the shoulder mount. Stab resistance not stab proof slice resistance not slice proof. About what Doug was talking about watching older videos! I have been watching both your older videos one per day or when I have a day off to catch up like I have done with podcasts. Also KZread algorithm gives us your older videos I just put in wood carving and if it’s something I might want to try I notice it’s a few yrs old. So I don’t think it’s his videos are stale with the subjects I think it’s just KZread but also do what ever carvings you want to do don’t just give us what you think we want. Open our eyes to new styles or new hobbies you guys are interested in who knows what may come from them. Keep it up you two! 👍👍

I always had a bandsaw, drill press and table saw at home. Had more at work but that was home tools. When I started carving full time I retired I had to down size and moved into a smaller home and my shop is now shared in my heated car and a half garage. So I started using an handsaw, coping saw and not long ago bought a scroll saw and I am busy and content with my carving. You adapt for your needs. I have even seen larger carvings that I would like to do and I enjoy down sizing it to what I can deal with. Love the show. Keep em coming. FYI Doug got me started, thanks!! 👍👍

I agree with Doug on wanting to enjoy other aspects of your life. Being an industrial / ornamental blacksmith most of my life, which I enjoyed, I got into wood carving after I retired. I love the wood carving because I can take the wood and a couple of knives and do my carving. A lot easier than an anvil and hammers. A lot of people have told me I could sell my carvings. I say no because I was in business a long time and I enjoy just giving them away. I just want to do the carvings I feel like doing at that time. I've learned a lot from you guys and thank you for the time and energy you put into your videos.

Balance is key. To many folks take something that is fun to do, decide to try and make money at it, it takes over your life, you start to hate it and you get burned out. I see this in woodworking, gardening, and various crafts. So, take a well deserved time out and live your life on your terms. Yes you would be deeply missed if you pull the cord, but we will all be better off for your legacy and teachings….

Doug: I began watching you years back at the same time I started watching Joe Robinet and Shawn James before Shawn and Joe built that Adirondack Lean To. I witnessed all of your changes on YT. I am not into buscraft nor am I a fisherman. I watched all of them because of your wit, your innocent wisdom, your laugh and your quiet commentary. It doesn't matter what you do next on YT, I will watch it. I love C and C and look forward to it each week because I love hearing you and Alec banter. Listening to you both has taught me a lot about myself; things that have nothing to do with coffee or carving.

Doug, I am following your 1 x1 carving series. I was so looking forward to see you carve the seven dwarfs from snow white in the 1 x 1 series. I heard you say that the oil spill on the floor. The best way to get rid of it is to sprinkle a lot of talc if you can find, it will absorb all the oil and clear up everything. Hope that will help ...Good luck with your time off, waiting o see you come back so we can carve more 1x 1 series......

I chuckled at the reply. :-) But c'mon. You gotta admit your little venting was petty. I never once experienced people being that way because I had a band saw. Even do it yourselfers seldom need one. I did a lot of remodeling when I got out of the army way back when and worked in the field as well. Power saw, sawsall, drill, router and a miter saw were the tools I used for the most part. And now that I'm retired, doing carvings like Doug does is my preference. Band saw collecting a lot of dust and was never really used much anyway.
