In fact yes she knows very well Shins voice, the thing is that, in the anime, Shins voice sounds just like always, but in the Light novels its mentioned that, due to the state of his unit, the speaker was almost destroyed so his voice was like "changed" it sounds different, so different that Lena did not recognize him

I saw The ending of ep23 so many time and it still makes me cry… so… much!!!!

One of the best Episodes of any show ever.

HERE COMES PEAK FICTION. Imagine having to wait 3 months from episode 21 to this masterpiece of a directed episode, the wait was goddamn worth it

The direction and editing in this episode absolutely fucking blows me away. I can't help but jump up and cheer every time I see Lena step across the frame

Basically, the area where he met Lena is also the area where they separated (in ep 9). The sea of red flowers. That is in the borders of Giad (If I'm not mistaken do correct me) and San Magnolia. That is why she was able to reach Shin. It also symbolize that she was able to catch up to them but not yet at full. That was for me the best part for them meeting up again.

Also, Kiri protected Frederica in almost the same way as to how Shourei protected Shin from the blast, using the nano-machines. To compare, the Reginleif machines are sturdier and with high caliber armor compared to the juggernaut (poorly made weapons of war) thus it was able to with stand the explosion of the Morpho's self-destruction.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. When Shin closed his hatch back, I threw a hissy fit. XD Since Shin is all stoic and serious, the top brass all find it cute that he has a crush, so they tease him mercilessly about it. Apparently everyone can see Shin's crush on Lena except Shin and Lena. XD

The reason why Lena doesn't realize that its Shin she's talking to, even though she heard major three times, its because Lena thought the word "Shousa" (Major in english) are just a military rank jargon that was different from Republic.

It was strange to her, though, because after she helped Spearhead escape the initial onslaught of the scouting mission she was demoted to Lieutenant as punishment, and was still that rank when meeting Shin here. In other words, nobody should have been calling her “shousa” (major), which is why it was such a shock to her.

She was partly shocked that someone called her shousa but somehow didn't supect the pilot(shin) was the who said that coz lena's new version of the para-raid can communicate to all 86ers that is still alive in the battlefield so she must've thought someone from the surviving 86ers squads she currently handles must've mentioned shousa.

The reason lena didn't realize that was shin because shin was speaking through the broken speakers of the juggernaut so his voice was not clear.They really did a lot of shuffling and rearrangements of dialogues from the LN..In the light novel,shin didn't try to open the hatch...

Honestly this is easily an 11/10 episode for me oml

I think that when they show Raiden behind Fido and Fido is upside down, that means that Fido blocked the Morpho's attack and saved Raiden, which is also how Frederica got out to distract Kiri in the fight. They did say the built Fido to be a lot more sturdy now.

Shin is near the San Magnolia republic. Lena was the one sending the air strikes, and she had Cyclops bring her out there to check on the pilot (ie: see if he was still alive and needed medical care or something).

man i just love the way the Undertaker mech looks just like a soldier leaning on a pole looking down, like a tired/dead soldier in *that* scene. just great visual storytelling overall as a side note: How Raiden survived the direct hit from a railgun. in a short top down scene from last episode, Fido can be seen running away from Raiden's mech who was charging forward. so Raiden hopped on Fido and Werhwolf was on autopilot charging forward, and in this ep raiden is with a flipped Fido

Lol they never mentioned in the anime that the reginleifs had the autopilot feature. They could have shown it better in ep 21 instead of making it feel like a bait and plot armor.

Doesnt help that we see Raiden inside the Reginleif after Fido goes away from it. The editing failed hard there.

Another Easter egg is how the black screen turned out white when shin understood finally that it's lena. Symbolising shin's mental state.

I still tear up every time I watch this. 86 is a MASTERPIECE for me, and so many other.

Cyclops noticed Shin's insignia which is why she said there's no way Lena has seen it. Lena has never seen any of their insignia before.

Glad to see you finally here. Imagine being me as one of the fans who was forced to wait 3 months for these last two episodes. It was one hell of a wait, but it was so worth it. This is peak anime, and I don’t think I’ll love a series much as I did this series.

I need season two just because the first two or so episodes will be a laugh due to how things escalate the Shin, Lena dynamic due to the recording of their chat and a certain cyclops’s meddling

Hands down my favorite episode of Part 2, a 10/10 work of art! I fully understand why they waited so long to release this episode, any less than what they gave us would have been a disservice! The Music at 8:59 Never fails to get me EMOTIONAL!

Seeing the photo and drawing simply solidified all the positive impressions and expectations. It showed she meant her promise to never forget them when they all felt disposable and easily forgotten. She did, in fact, see them as people and her actions and very presence proved it. Definitely would have been a wave of emotion for Shin who thought the others were killed getting him this far as well as everything he experienced during his tour.

Also, to answer the question of why she's out there it's because this fight took place close to the bolder. So, I think her forces were at least in the area.

These two last episodes are peak. Masterpiece and needs more recognition. Shin mic was also damaged for those who don't kniw

We had to wait a lot for this episode...120% worthy

I had to wait so so so long for ep 22 n 23 to air...but it was so worth the wait All the delays in airing leaded to 86 days difference between airing of ep1 n ep23

Kiri's mission was to end the job on the Republic Resistance, that's why he was heading west, to the Republic, if you pay attention, on episode 22 the team starts going through old Republic cities, also once Shin reached Kiri, you can see the Gran Mur far in the background, meaning that the 48hrs of pursuit, took them where all started, in the 86th Sector of San Magnolia.

The field they are fighting on is the same one Theo and the rest were surprised by in ep9 while they were leaving the Rpublic, while Lena was running "chasing" after them.

I dont think there was an understanding that the soldiers were to follow after they defeated the Morpho. The defense line needed to stay so the standard legion units would get through. The 86 were sent in so they could try to destroy Morpho because they were the best. That said the Federacy probably sent what reinforcemencd to back up the 86. The Federacy was not going to leave them hanging

Superb episode

The moment Lena activated her RAID and Shin heard “Daijobou desu” I lost it. Tears rolled down my cheeks like rivers.

I know its been 5 months but honestly I thought the same about nobody dying but really they earned it this time. And its not like we can forget the countless soldiers who died so the main cast could live.

He lied. He lied that he never seen her 😂😂😂 he just dont want everybody to tease him around. The recording that was already spreading around in the whole federacy was enough for him

This, episode 9, 10, and 23 are my favorite.

Ah yes, the bad translations. Just to be clear, when Lena was talking about how "they" told her to not forget them and how "they" told her about the impending Legion assault, she momentarily switched to "him" in Japanese for that portion of the conversation. It was a very deliberate change in Japanese, a language that could've fudged with pronouns a lot more than in English. I have no idea how the translator missed that, it's basically impossible from a Japanese -> English perspective, so I have to assume that it was an editor that screwed this up. So yeah. That entire speech meant a lot more because Lena was speaking directly to Shin about Shin. Literally no way to misinterpret it, which is important in a language like Japanese that has a lot of room to be vague if it wants to be. Shin got that message loud and clear.

i dont hate that but as a fan of 86 I can say that, at least, Raiden was likely to die here for how everything was showed. Im currentle reading the ln and it just gets better and better after this, so if you like what you saw so far, the next season will surprise you

Blame the reginleifs. Those mechs modified to secure the person inside. Unlike the former republic juggernaut where even a small knife can cut through (Ep 15 explain) As a novel reader, from what i read, majority from 86 strike package that died was from an attack that used blades. (Volume 4 and so on legion)

@@thelostician OP is complaining about the fake out deaths, not that they didn't die. The person below you also misunderstood the comment. The anime makes it feel like they are going to die, but when they reveal them to be alive they never bother to explain how they actually survived. It's not just once the anime did this btw. They did this in ep 12 as well, not expanding upon how the squad survived. At this point, the anime just makes it feel like the squad has plot armor and no one can even scratch them.
