8 Movies You Need To See Before You Die

Ойын-сауық

We watch movies for many reasons, and they communicate different emotions to different people. Many of us like watching movies because it allows us to suspend our imaginations and forget about the daily grind of reality. Movies also can remind us about our humanity and why we are the way we are.
Meanwhile, films like Forest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, The Fisher King, and Good Will Hunting (aside from being awesome) remind us about the power of filmmaking and their importance to society.
If you are in need of hope and a reminder to have faith in humanity, here are eight movies you need to see before you die.

CCKillbilly In what way was it dumb? Although not straight forward I didn't think it was overly confusing, not if you pay close attention to it. There were a couple of points in it that didn't quite make sense (losing so much time on the water planet for one), but with a movie dealing with relatively complex science I thought it did a great job.

  • @toddmediumwellingtoniii478

CCKillbilly it was confusing, but definitely not dumb. It requires you to think which is something the majority don't want to do when watching a film.

My Top 10 "must watch" list: - Pulp Fiction - Scarface - The Big Lebowski - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Spun - Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back - 99 francs - Leon the Professional - Kingdom of Heaven - Life Is Beautiful (1997 Italia) There is way more on my list and movies like Fight Club (love that movie) etc. didnt made it because this list shows already a lot of diversity (yes also the so called "stoner" movies).

I agree on spotlight, absolutely, extremely important film. And you guys also mentioned all the presidents men, which is also a film i recommend. Here are some other films i think is a must see. 12 Angry men Apocalypse now! (original) Pulp Fiction Das Boot (Director's Cut or 6 episode tv series) Jaws The Usual Suspects The Shawshank redemption Schindler's List Saving Private Ryan The Silence of the lambs The Lion King Goodfellas Fargo Unforgiven Good Will Hunting Pan's Labyrinth Paths Of Glory Rear Window I'll stop there, i'll conclude it's safe to say this is a kick ass list. If you have missed any of the films on this list, see them.

I don't cry very often but my friend recommended Dear Zachary to me and I went in with no knowledge of the film (which I believe is the best way to watch it), and I fucking wept. The most gut wrenching piece of film I've ever seen.

  • @alyshacampbell1767

Dear Zachary ripped my heart out, stepped on it, picked it up, swallowed it and threw it back up. I have never cried so badly in my life. I watched it laying down and before it was over I was on the side of the bed weeping like I just loss my best friend. Not to discredit its beautiful cinematic description. It was a incredibly great film but if you think I will watch it again, you couldn't be more wrong. It's a film that catches you off guard and heed my warning, guard your heartstrings. Same goes for Spotlight. I wanted to reach through the television. Good choices Looper. As always

As far as important films go, I don't think this list is accurate in the slightest. Something like this, in no particular order, is at least a little accurate: 8. Alien 7. Jaws 6. 2001: A Space Odyssey 5. TDK Trilogy (or at least Begins and TDK) 4. Star Wars Trilogy 3. LOTR Trilogy 2. Pulp Fiction 1. Godfather 1 and 2 (One omission I have is Spirited Away because I still have yet to see it. I'm waiting for the right time.)

  • @TheArb999

Cloud Atlas (read the book, otherwise) The Fountain Forrest Gump Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter (a series, but whatever) Band of Brothers (another series, but whatever) Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind (A wonderful performance from Jim Carrey) The Truman Show (Another wonderful performance from Jim Carrey) The Secret Life of Walter Mitty For books i'd recommend almost any work by Haruki Murakami. The Metro series is also very underrated. Dmitrij masterfully paints the world and the scenarios. I've excluded well known movies from this list as most have seen those. Haruki Murakami is one of the most well known authors in the world but sadly a lot of people don't know about him. Books and authors don't get the recognisition they deserve.

Of course there's no movie you "have" to see, but there's more to a title like "8 movies you need to see before you die" than just opinion. There are literal works of art out there in the movie industry and yet with the exception of Citizen Kane, they seem to be absent from the list. As for what I'd pick for a list like this, it'd be 8 of the most influential movies in cinema. Movies like: The Godfather, It's a Wonderful Life, The Shawshank Redemption, 2001, and of course lets not forget...Howard The Duck.

  • @AdamMPick

8 movies you need to see before you die implies a very short life, or a very limited mind. Not far from, "the only book you need to read!" Thinking about movies you might not have seen, but should watch, I made a list, 8 of the essentials are marked. Battleship Potemkin 1925 All Quiet on the Western Front 1930 M 1931 * Lost Horizon 1937 Casablanca 1942 The Major and the Minor 1942 Ikiru 1952 * The Seven Samurai 1954 The Man Who Never Was 1956 The Seventh Seal 1957 * 12 Angry Men 1957 The Cranes Are Flying 1957 The Bridge 1959 * Knife in the Water 1962 The Saragossa Manuscript 1964 * Dr. Strangelove, Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb 1964 The Ipcress File 1965 Le Samouraï 1967 Marketa Lazarová 1967 In the Year of the Pig 1968 Bullitt 1968 Kes 1969 * A Bridge Too Far 1977 Stroszek 1977 Stalker 1979 Das Boot 1981 Come and See 1985 A Better Tomorrow 1986 Full Metal Jacket 1987 Wings of Desire 1987 Grave of the Fireflies 1988 * Henry V 1989 Korczak 1990 * Three Colors: Blue 1993 Sátántangó 1994 La Haine 1995 Brother 1997 The Pianist 2002 Elite Squad 2007 The Man From Earth 2007 Some of them ask essential questions, some of them show essential themes, but all of them either make you think or talk about them. There are way more films you should have watched in your life time, but those are the ones I know and could recall.

Influential is a good way to go. I would put the likes of Citizen Kane, Seven Samurai in there for that reason alone. But in this video.. I mean I love Spotlight, but there is no real reason it's here.. it's just a great film. But there is plenty of them around. I like the idea of picking arguably the best, Shawshank.. best cinematography, Hero.. most timeless, 12 Angry Men. My opinions, but then it's understandable why they are in the list.

This seems more like a list of 8 movies that someone thought were good, rather than 8 movies you need to see before you die.
