If anything, I would move respect to number one. I think everything you say to a man or do for a man has to be filtered through the lens of respect. Respect = Love for men, in general. I think most men would rather be respected than loved (as we think of love) if they had to choose.

I believe this 100%. ppl change and if you remember to love each other in the good and bad as life takes you down different paths, you can make it. The list is almost the same for women if you change just a few words and take it to a higher level of abstraction 1. She wants you to be happy 2 she wants you to take interest in her interests 3. She wants you to initiate connection (through conversation, not just through sex - do the former and you'll have more of the latter than you ever dreamed) 4. She wants to be praised and acknowledged (especially for things OTHER then her looks/body) 5. She wants you to encourage her to have a life and community outside of her relationship with you (and the kids) 6. She wants your confidence in her 7. She has a deep desire for your respect ----- Men often kill #6 and #7 by mansplaining and assuming she can't figure out anything mechanical. Men are often afraid of impairing their masculinity if they do #2

I think constant criticism is demeaning but men usually do that because they want to help/fix whatever is wrong rather than be buttholes. Rest assured, there are some guys who genuinely are butt holes and get off to criticizing and belittling you. But many men just want to help and feel useful, especially with something they’re familiar with.

I’m one of those “strong” women. I’ve been a single mom for 20 years, put myself through college twice. I work long hours. What do I secretly want in a relationship? Old fashioned manners; to be treated as special & delicate. To have a man offer to help me carry something heavy, hold my door, my chair. I get told my men that they respect me because of my strength, but I don’t want to have to be strong all the time.

Matt!! She wasn't thanking you for paying for dinner...she was thanking you for giving her your time and attention. Really that's what most of us want. Also on the appreciation comment, I truly think the most lost words in a relationship are " I'm sorry"... I think many people remember to thank each other for taking time out, but the "I'm sorry" gets lost when someone has been let down. I don't expect for anyone to be perfect, but at least acknowledge that you've let someone down. If you do that...then you get the chance to make it right. If you don't....and it's been more than a few times...then that chance gets lost. Would you agree?

Have you tried asking him to make some choice or decision and then even if he doesn't, just leave it alone? And don't try to correct it if it isn't done the way you would do it. Too often we unconsciously undermine them by trying to micromanage him after we ask him to do it, which makes him pull back because he thinks "I can't do it right anyhow! Let her go ahead and do it her way! What's the use in my even trying!!" Even if it's something important like a faucet leaking or something needs fixing---try asking sweetly, then LEAVE HIM ALONE! Men absolutely HATE being told what to do or how to do it!! :D

    1. Tell her you love her ... When it's not connected to physical intimacy. 2. Tell her she's beautiful... when her hair is a mess, when she has an acne outbreak, and when she least expects it. 3. Honor her through opening doors, making sure she's seated first, helping her bring in the groceries, and just letting her know that your her teammate. 4. Be honest with her. In the little things, and the big things. Never EVER lie, or twist the truth. Be open about YOUR ideas, because she DOES want to know them. 5. Have fun with her. In group settings and alone time. Be willing to try new things together. Laugh until your gut aches, and your eyes get teary. 6. Do something out of the ordinary sometimes. Surprise her and keep her guessing about you. 7. Learn to read her moods, and act accordingly. Sometimes she'll want hot and passionate. Other times, she'll want gentle and sweet. Give her the space to feel down sometimes. You don't need to fix it, but just knowing your are there for her, and aren't being critical goes a long way. 8. Communicate! Talk about the mundane things, and the big dreams. I'm very blessed to have a man who does all of these things. And he keeps me coming back for more, as I hope I do the same for him. Love your videos and your seminars, Mat. I have a strong relationship, but I'm always reminded of things I can do better, or of things I've let slide, and gotten comfortable in.

You realize how much effort it takes and have sympathy for those who have enough in their cup to even try 2. You realize how happy it makes ppl, and that maybe they had no idea how to love you but you just gave them one !

Sorry to point this out but... unless the cuddles lead to intimacy - as in he's got the hots for you in bed, & on a frequent/regular basis ~ forehead kisses is a sign of a mere friendship, could be close friend - respectful type of "friend love". Lip kisses, or at least on the cheeks sometimes, with the hugs or cuddles, that's the intimate "in love" type. BTW, in my house, my husband does the cooking... 'cause I'm not a good cook and tend to burn things up. Lol 😊

My mother explicitly taught me six of those seven things. She used different words and anecdotes, but she knew how to make her man happy. These are all old fashioned and traditional things that women used to all know--but the feminists told us that it was wrong to "ask a man to help you" or "show a man respect". I remember my mom telling me many times--if your guy is into cars and likes to work in the garage, then you go sit in the garage with him in your cutest outfit, and act interested in his cars. Learn to like cars with him, and he will love you all the more. My mom always said if you put your man on a pedestal, he will put you on a higher pedestal.

It's not lile guys are advised to do the same for women, in fact, they're advised to "play the field" and f as many chicks as possible without strings attached. This can go both ways in a relationship. I have known some men and women who don't appreciate and take for granted what they have with someone until it is lost. It's difficult to build/maintain a relationship with someone who doesn't appreciate what you bring to the relationship and vise versa.

Wow thank you for this. There are actually three things that are important to me. 1 I want to feel safe. If I'm struggling with something, in order for me to be vulnerable, I need to be able to go to him without feeling judged or criticized or for it to become a weapon to use against me at a later date. 2 I want to feel adored. Like he sees me and he wants to understand me and he accepts who I am without needing to change me. 3 I need him to have staying power. When things get tough that we're willing to do together what it takes to keep things alive. Which often equates to taking responsibility for his thoughts words and actions and for his own life experiences.

you know... There should also be some youtube link that says "7 things a woman don't say". And on that list there should probably be: "What you don't hear complains about = a compliment". Wich means, if you hear her complaining about the dishwasher, the meal. And that's it for that day, but you didn't hear her complain about: how you hugged her, how you stood up for her, how you fixed the machine afterwards, etc. That's that there isn't something to complain about (and she probably forgets to compliment you, cause you probably forget to compliment her too on the tasks she does for you. You both think that it's "the normal life"). Also there are types of woman. And to be honest... the perfectionists are the ones who are often misinterpreted. Because actually, they are high emotional. Try to figure out what type of wife you have, AND PUT TIME IN THAT THING! In stand of blackmailing her all over the place like: internet, café's, etc. If you are sarcastic about this "happy wife, happy life" kind off thing? Then you just don't know your wife well, I supose...

Those were more traditional so I would work on femininity and etiquette and traditional house/wife/mother skills since that will attract guys to want to get married/ have kids. Cheers

Hello Matt - - I just want to let you know how much I enjoy your advice. YOu touch on sooo many topics and are 'right on' with your approach to solving issues and having the best relationship possible. I might add that you have an enthusiastic, friendly, and caring attitude that promotes confidence in the advice that you are giving. I am a devoted fan!!! However, I am wondering if you could present a video on long-distance relationships? That would be soooo helpful!!! Many thanks - - and I look forward to this video!!!

The best advice I can think of that I wish i'd thought of when young is to take an accredited basic psychology course. It will help you to understand yourself and what YOU need first, and also help you pick out those who are putting on an act - which most men and women do at first, and some can keep it up until after marriage a couple of years along the line. Still, there will be tells and a basic psychology course will help you spot important things you might otherwise not notice or may dismiss.

I’m so excited to apply these to my relationship. After 2 years together you often forget these little things that matter. I’m writing these down and I can’t wait to make sure I do all of them every single day. Thank you for the reminder!

I had an arranged marriage to a men his whole life was about me myself and I and a motorcycle and hot temper and from day one I showed him respect patience compassion understandings space for him to grow emotionally and I built his confidence. made him into a better men even though he was fifteen years older, instead of relying on men to give us all these things we should take time understand men first it's going to be thirty years and raised five wonderful human beings. Appreciation and respect is key.

Great video I don't know why anyone would put a thumbs down. Well something that I like that I don't ask for Is foreplay. I know men like it when you take control sometimes, But for most women we take a bit longer to get in the mood. It would To be nice For him to initiate Soft foreplay, Like rubbing my shoulders my back, Then of course going in for some other things I like before getting down to it!Lol Spending at least 10 minutes rubbing me down, and getting me riled up would be awesome! Yeah definitely initiating foreplay!👍👍👍

Yep.. that'd be handy LOL Maybe one day you tie him down and do things to him that arouse but you hang off with the gratification. (While you're doing this it's quite erotic in itself) Gratification comes when you untie him and come together for a cataclysmic climax!! 😛💞

I want his respect as well. ANd his pride. I have a job that requires a lot of education and pays little. But it's who I am and it fulfills me greatly. I need a man to respect that I might not ever get rich, but I'm hella good at what I do! Be proud of me!

It means a lot to me if my partner lets me know that we matter and that they are willing to step up and watch out for me as I would watch out for her. Its shows they care if they challenged one to suspend their own dogma. Life can be crazy and hard at times, but to understand that we will make it through the pain together and be stronger for it it. Together a family can make it through hellfire.

I think this is a wonderful list especially for someone who isn’t quite sure how to approach these sometimes awkward moments or those of us who have simply not realized after time or stressful periods of life that these things are a big deal (and simple to implement, if we are forgetting or needing a little push/change). Rebuilding connection is possible. I have never shared my “love language” mostly because I just didn’t even know but I think this is the thing that changes it up for us and I’d recommend for anyone who doesn’t already know or hasn’t reflected WITH their partner! After taking a quick quiz together (on an app so he can take it without you giving him his answers 😝), we were both laughing and finding comfort that we always knew deep down what each other’s love languages were but just didn’t know that we could be directing some unmatched energy elsewhere. Now that the hard part is out of the way, we can begin to work on fulfilling that love language a little more everyday together. Not only does it give us something to work toward after 8 years but it’s also something that allows us to get to know our constantly evolving partner and our changing needs/wants/fantasies together. If it’s not working after that kind of intimate discussion and commitment to respect each other’s feelings both emotional, physical, and sexual, then maybe it isn’t a great match.
