Charlie Snowball - ok, so, I did some research and the Make Anything channel has a good video showing the true shape of the object. In reality it is neither a square nor a circle but actually a blend of each (so basically a rounded square) however the trick is in that in one side the top arches up and the other it arches down. Because of this when the up arches face you it hides stuff and makes it look like a square, but when the low arch faces you, you see more and you mind corrects to a circle. Cool stuff!

The ringo one: At the time you always see one side of outer ring and one of inner ring. The trick is that half of rings facing camera is painted red and the other one white. When rings rotated 180° white halves face camera and red ones mirrors.

Actually, "the mind" *ISN'T* being "tricked" because the mind has no part to play in producing the illusion. The brain receives stimuli directly from the external world through our physical senses, hence it produces a personalised version of our perceived 'reality'. In this case, vision alone is the stimuli that is being deceived, accordingly our brain has no choice but to make as much logical sense as it possibly can of the visual stimuli received, and it does so by producing an image that we're generally familiar with, so it's usually something that is based on previous life experience. That's the reason we see what we do when exposed to illusions, and it's also why brain interpretations of this type have absolutely nothing to do with the functioning of the mind, which is an entirely different thing altogether. On the contrary, the mind principally concerns cognitive powers, rationality, reasoning, higher thinking, logicality and self-awareness. The two are worlds apart, so it's rather like comparing a washing machine to a pencil sharpener: both are integral items of society, but they're in absolutely no way related.
