1:10 is easily explainable. Take a look at the brown borders of the thing in the beginning. They are put closer together making it look like it leaves a hole.

For some detail. All four sides of an orange piece have different lengths. The side of the orange pieces touching the borders add up to give the perimeter of the entire shape. By rearranging, you are orienting longer sides towards the borders, resulting in total perimeter increase. Hence a larger shape that overlaps onto the border thickness. If you increase the perimeter of a square, the area covered by the square would also increase. Since you increase the area but not add more orange material to that area, there is naturally a white hole in the between.

With the triangle puzzle one where the square doesn’t fit when rearranged, I think maybe there is a very thin gap along the long edge which would be the same area as the square but since the square isn’t long and thin, it can’t fit there.

Yeah, it’s the same concept for the trapezoids. Basically, the shapes have slightly different angles. So when arranged one way, they all fit. But when rearranged, they change because of the differences in internal angles which created a large enough space to make a square hole.

I remember seeing an explanation for this a while ago, basically, it's a quadrilateral and not a triangle. The two triangles look like they have the same angle but one has a slightly larger angle than the other one. therefore when its rearranged, there's space for a square

For the one we’re when rearranged and the black square doesn’t fit. It is because the two triangles are at different angles and therefor it is not a triangle, and some how it just leaves no room for the black square, the original puzzle actually works the other way, a blank square instead appears after rearranging

I can explain the square one. The border of the square is really thick. When he rearranges it, it still looks like it's in the border but it is actually bigger than it was before. The square is still inside of the border, but you can actually only see half of the border that you could have seen before it was rearranged.

For the illusions about rearranging and replacing: It's all about the gradients of the shapes. The triangles or quadrilaterals have different gradients therefore when you rearrange them, the shape cannot fill the space in the same way as it doesn't have the same gradient. The power of maths.

I think the repositioning of the shapes is just the guy moving the shapes further back so they cross more into the boundary of the rectangle.
