I bought the first street twin when it came out, wanted a fun easy calm bike. Did a few tweaks changed the front springs to progressive springs also changed to Sintered HH Front Brake Pads and a x-pipe exhaust conversion. It was the single front disc brake that I felt bad about the most, however the sintered pads made a good improvement. I would have liked to upgrade to the Speed Twin unfortunately I didn't have the dosh after a drop in wages :-)

I fitted the decat kit, K&N filter, EBC-HH brake pads, from TEC:- gas shocks, variable rate front springs and their performance cam. I couldn't be happier with the sound and performance improvements the final icing on the cake was to get the seat reupholstered with 50mm extra foam under the rider position, now it's all day comfortable 👌🏼

My ST has done nigh on £20k miles now in 4 yrs without a single issue. I am also 6ft 2 and feel fine on it - but I have the alternate bench seat which adds a few mm and I suffer with a fairly short 32 in inside leg which I guess "helps". I did go back to the stock seat and it did feel a bit odd after the bench seat so that might be an option to add a few mm/change riding position. I used to ride in the early 2000s when I passed my test but stopped in about 2009 when I came back to it in 2017 I checked out a few and the ST just ticked all the boxes and was easy to ride. All in all its been a great bike, I keep it outside under a cover and barely any rust after 4 yrs, the headlight bezel has rust which is annoying but easily replaced. There are now other realistic options out there like the Royal Enfield Interceptor so it is worth riding a few. As for me I will keep the ST but am thinking of adding a Trident for a bit of extra zip and fun OR a new TIger Sport 660 for more comfy touring with a bit more zip :D

Tec in the uk do a great set of alloy foot pegs plus a neat dropper bracket. This drops the pegs by 25-30mm these coupled to Triumphs King and queen seat (15mm additional height) makes my T100 a very comfortable mile muncher. If you don’t like the look of the seat cover it with a Cool Cover £75 or cheap Chinese copy for about £15 on eBay.

Looks great, there’s no disputing it! Not really on my radar… but I’d have to argue that £9k is not a minor amount (the ‘limited’ nature of this model) still does not justify the price. Although, it’d be fair to say that the entire Bonneville range is overpriced by varying degrees. I love my T120 it’s a great bike, but it was far from perfect and Triumph really should be putting better quality components on when fast approaching, and exceeding £10k! (think shocks… and brakes)! Great overview Bob, thanks 👍🏻

Agreed on all accounts. My ST will remain in the stable for the rest of time providing nothing happens to it. Only gripes I have are the front Brembo squeaks which is slightly annoying and the lack of 6th gear for motorway speeds. But as a bike for commuting and bombing around the lanes... perfection. Perfect balance of torque and power, it sounds great, it looks great and there are a metric f-tonne of aftermarket parts for it. Great bike!

Since it is a LE also, I wanted to keep the look and to my pleasant surprise I found some Vance and Hines peashooters! The seat height and mirrors were the biggest issue for me but easily remedied but swapping to a bench seat and bar end mirrors. I would like to have slightly more power and brakes with a bit more bite but the bike handles beautifully and great for B roads and light for city riding.

I agree at some points but in my opinion the street twin is not the best sound in triumph lineup, the street scrambler sound is more aggressive and clean. Street twin is really a very low bike, the lowest in boneville lineup except for the bobber, this is good but you need to be careful sometimes, I trade my street twin for a street scrambler because the twin was too low.

Nah triumph actually have standards when building and detailing bikes. Royal Enfield do the bare minimum. The welds are of a very low standard, good penetration wise, but visually very poor. Any visible welds need to be pleasing to the eye. That's the only quality control metric preventing them from being truly competitive with Triumph.

Had one. Sold it after 8 months. Stranded with a faulty sensor after three months. Just couldn' t stand the handling( quickly taking corners it would feel " stiff"), front was way to hard and harsh, rear shocks the same. Beautyfull to see, but not suited to really drive " fast". Now a Yamaha Tracer 700. Not beautyfull to see, but does it all ( better)

  • @motobob

The build quality is good, but like any bike if you’re riding year round then it’ll look much better if you apply a lot of ACF, or get a pro motorcycle valet service to coat it in something. If I were you I’d ride both - the street twin has more soul than the tiger sport, but the windscreen will be a massive advantage when it’s cold and wet 👍

Had one of these for about 3 months. Great fun bike, definitely a town/cafe poser bike, but a good laugh all the same. Brakes & tyres are absolute sh!te, e-throttle/ride by wire response spoils the commuting ability, and the low seat height is a major disadvantage when filtering in heavy traffic. I was sad when I had to give it back, but for new riders, it's a bloody good first trumpet.
