6.5 PRC 110 Ultra Lite Part 2 - Update Review and Deer Hunts (540 Yard Shot)

A follow up video on Garrett's Savage 110 UltraLite. As some of you know, Garrett had to send the gun back due to some chambering issues. It is back and shooting great. We were able to harvest a couple of deer using the 156gr Berger bullet.

    Welcome to precision rifle cambering. I have a 6mm creedmoor Ruger RPR that had a very tight chamber. I ended up using the Tubbs final finish bullet to get the chamber where it needed to be. I run a 108 Gr. Hornady ELD-M with reloader 26 powder. It shoots Lights Out now.

    Great video Eric and Garrett and great content. I really like the honesty of showing the whitetail bolting off after a clearly lethal shot. To many claim DRT with their favorite cartridges and in my experience about 50% run off unless shot in the high shoulder, neck or head. Again great job.

    It depends on the cartridge and the deers adrenaline when shot. With my 350 legend, i shot a deer in the lungs last year, and he was infact DRT. Took him right off his feet

    @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 heck no lol 350 legend is a 250 yards max range cartridge. I would never shoot at a deer at 500 yards even if i was using something like a 308 win that could reach that far. But a drt shot is not as uncommon as you might think. My opinion is any round that maintains 100ft/lbs of energy on impact is likely to make them drop like that. Especially when it's a ballistic tip, the rapid expansion causes a lot of impact trauma, and they just die. You usually won't get a DRT deer, when you shoot them with a soft point, it carries energy through the animal instead of dumping it all in the vitals

Had a chamber burr in my .338 Federal Model 110. I could chamber rounds, but they were a pain to extract after firing. Should have never left the factory in that condition. The burr was visible when the action was open.

You managed to get it back to Savage,.. imagine buying one of those here in Canada,...I guess the buyer would be s.o.l. Some folks may not care much about that problem here, but at around $1800. plus taxes it makes one think twice. Great shot there by your Dad,..well done, and of course on the doe too. • @ChuckinTV

    @ChuckinTV

    Roughly 80 yards. Damage comes down to how the bullet is designed. Some bullets will expand more rapidly with less velocity than others. This EOL bullet is designed for penetration on large game like Elk. So the expansion is delayed.

    Garrett: I like the LHT a lot. It’s very light and easy to handle which is what this scope was designed for. The VX5 is quite a bit chunkier and heavier but it does actually have a better optic system, is sharper and better low light abilities than the Vortex. The vx5 doesn’t light up though and I prefer the reticle on the vortex with the dot but they are both very easy to use and great for long distance.

    We haven't. My uncle got one last summer and it is very accurate. It is a Ruger Hawkeye with the 5R barrel. Hopefully we'll have an opportunity to shoot some chucks with it this spring

    Everything Savage is half-assed. I own more than one and I'm never going to buy another one and they weren't the cheapest ones either they were supposedly high-end Savage

    Considering this rifle. Thanks for the video. Sfp scope!? Unsubscribed lol. I prefer sfp even though the internet dumps on them.

    I regret purchasing this rifle. Three months after the purchase, I haven't fired the rifle yet. There is NO ammo available. I was considering buying either a 6.5 prc or 6.8 Western chambering. I see 6.8 Western ammo all the time. Living in Commifornia makes it difficult to buy over the intrenet, so even when I've found ammo on-line, the companies won't ship to an FFL here.

    This really isn’t uncommon with proof or savage for that matter. Also why now that bartlein makes carbon barrels there’s no reason to ever built a rifle with a proof barrel again. Their only place is prefits at a discount.

    Why would Savage drill such big holes for the base mounts.Don,t buy this rifle unless you,re willing to spend more on large screws.Taking my rifle to a dealer today ,maybe he can put some two hundred dollar base mounts on the rifle ,that Savage was to sorry to include in the $1400 package.
