The Savage Ultralite is the best in the game right now in a big price range. Super light...amazing barrel...accurate as hell. Perfect for long hikes.

That spiral cut bolt also is done for functioning in harsh, dirty conditions. I’ve been shooting Savage for 3 decades and they have always been fantastic to me. I didn’t get the spacers when I bought one of my Savage rifles and when I contacted Savage they didn’t even ask me for proof of purchase. Just sent my serial number and within one week I had all the spacers in my mailbox.

Who else wants a vlog of the hunt!!!

My most accurate rifle was a Savage in.17 HMR with a sweet 17 scope with turret markings for 17 grain and 20 grain bullets. I could keep less than .5 inch groups at 100 meters.

Mine is a Savage 93R17 FV in a Boyd’s Barracuda. Shooting off my range bag with CCI 17gr V-max I can bust golf balls @140yds all day long (max distance on my home range.) That may not seem like much, but I’m no rifleman and that’s with a Vortex Crossfire II @7x with junk UTG rings. Clean the barrel every 50~ rds and she’s happy.

Savage BVSS Black Hills remanufactured 50 grain v max just under .75 outside to outside at 200 yards . Blk Hills remanufactured 52 grain moly coated boat tails would do about the same or tad better, Sadly they stopped making these and I'm not sure they have any new offerings in these light weight .223 new either. I had to finally scrub out the fouling and shoot in again last spring with 50 grain Fiocchi and was getting some 1/4 and 1/2 inch groups before my Burris 6x 24 x40mm scope went caput and needed replacing . They gave me a 6x 25x 50 i believe but with 1/4 inch rather than 1/8 inch adjustments and no more parallax on the outer bell nor dawn and dusk . Got to get new rings and see if this will work. I hope so. Its my ground hog rig. I also have a Savage 93 in 22 mag that's shoots under an inch at 100 yards with either Remington 33 grain Premier or 30 grain Hornady. Not bad for a 22 Mag They make accurate rifles .I have 2 model 29a .22 pumps that shoot well even with shorts for a pumps with open sights. Savages will shoot.

That was one of the best reviews of this rifle I’ve seen. Nice work, nothing fancy, no BS. Surprised you did not mention the Accutrigger, which is one of the great features of this rifle.

22 plinkster, you can pick up some accuracy by moving your sandbag forward on your stock too about an inch and a half from the front handguard, this will give you less yaw and pitch, and your movements will have to be more deliberate and less accidental to get any kind of horizontal or vertical shift

What do you mean with "front hand guard"?... It's actually called the fore-end!... And it makes no sense whatsoever to move the "sand bag" from the stock (rear) of the rifle to the front of the front hand guard since he already had a sand bag there! Maybe Velcro everywhere will improve his marksmanship!?

@@frederikmare9002 it's called a foregrip or a handguard, either one is correct, it's been called a handguard forever to keep your hand from getting burned on the barrel. And we've called it a hand guard rather than the foregrip forever. So tomato tom ah to.. and secondly I make thousand yard shots all the time, my accuracy doesn't falter. I also load my own rounds and have been doing so for 37 years!!

Leupold has long been my favorite optics, and 6.5 Creedmoor has recently became my favorite round. A 270 will do most anything a 6.5 will do, but when it comes to the wind pushing it around, that BC of a 6.5 really shines.

Nice rifle👍. I have an old Savage Axis, which is my favorite. Good for hunting and plinking.

I'd be very interested in a video from you explaining what you do when you first acquire a gun. Do you clean and inspect it to make sure there's no left over filings, etc. from the factory? Do you check the workmanship to make sure the guys at the factory weren't having a mediocre day? I know some people that take a gun straight to the range and others that strip and clean the gun.

Im going back to 308. Everyone jumped on the 6.5 CM bandwagon and now its never in stock anywhere. 308 is stocked up on all the shelves and is almost half the price. 308 has always been and will always be a great round. Ill even take the 270 long action over 6.5 CM nowadays.

Love my Savage 6.5!!

Yes! Needs to try 140 Grainers. My Savage 65 CM does not like the 129 weight and some others I know of don’t also. They seem to group better with those slightly weightier bullets.

I have it in 270win. Love it!

Man I love that rifle! I turned 18 this year and with some of my grad money (about half) I bought my first rifle that is my own, I’ve been gifted some guns so not my first but my first gotten for myself, it’s a Savage Axis XP ii in 6.5 Creedmoor, packaged with a Bushnell scope. With a rifle bag and some ammo came to ~$500, for the last 3-4 years I’ve been comparing all of the “budget” bolt guns and I just preferred the Savage over all the others and I always knew I’d pick 6.5 Creedmoor. I hope to get a deer this year with it but I’ve got college and work so I might only be able to go muzzleloading this year. But I hope to get either a nice Boyds stock for it or maybe a chassis system, definitely a Leupold scope, a nicer bipod then I have now, and a sling. I hope someday I’ll be able to shoot out to 1,000 yards with it, but that’s in the future.

I would of picked the HOWA or RUGER A depending on price. If similar in price, the HOWA is the better rifle. I saw a killer deal on one recently. not the caliber I was wanting but still debating. Hope you have good luck with your 6.5 Axis. Im sure it will put many deer down for ya. Another good scope brand to check out for money is BURRIS. I been seeing some good deals on them if your interested and they hold up well with decent glass. lifetime no questions asked warranty as well.

@@Hill_Billy_Without_A_Hill I also like Ruger and Howa, however I think that my Scheels either didn’t have the budget models or they might not have them, I could basically pick between Savage, Remington, and one other budget brand, I can’t remember the brand so sorry. I’m up to get any scope as long as it’s made in U.S.A, I’m also looking at MDT LSS chassis system, again this is probably in like a year or so when I’ve got the money to do to it. Thanks for the advice!

Chassis add a lot of weight to rifles if you're looking to hike around with it. Glass wise you'd be looking at leupold or redfield if you want something actually made in the US. Otherwise cheaper options from other companies will be outsourced to other countries. Not that they're bad or inferior products, but they aren't US made. As for caliber/barrel, if you do change your mind, Savage makes it pretty cheap and easy to replace your barrel and caliber as long as you have the case length, and for the Axis I think they're still making them all long action so there shouldn't be a problem other than mags.

@@ScuffedEngineer yeah I’m not to worried about weight, since I hunt in a stand on my land and if I was to hunt out west a little bit I’d either swap back to the synthetic stock and just re-sight, or where my dad hunts in Wyoming it’s kinda just rolling hills, plus if I get in a side-by-side or 4-wheeler weight wouldn’t be an issue. Thanks for the advice though!

Nice rifle plinkster. 3 shot groups. For hunting all you need. With a hunting barrel it heats up fast. With my bull barrel 6.5. Heats up to fast with 5 shots. Nice video. B.

I have that exact scope on my kimber. Awesome scope. That rifle is capable of better. I would be trying other ammunition or handloads.

I really love this gun when my dad got it for me for Christmas. And when I saw the title... I WENT NUTS!!!

@@frederikmare9002 the best thing about this gun is that when I was getting it on Christmas I accidentally saw it 2 weeks before Christmas without even realizing it was mine. I was just doing some work cuz I was home school but when I saw it I asked my mom whose it was and she says "oh your dad just walked in with it I don't know who's it is" I paid no attention to it and I was doing my school in the rec room, then my dad walks in with the gun and says "my best friend's wife just bought this and asked me to sight it in before Christmas so she could give it to him and I wanted you to see it. I'm holding this gun and admiring it, the spiral bolt with that special triggered and that it's super lightweight and I'm just like drooling over the gun I think it's the best thing ever I said "yeah I'm sure he'll love this." Then my dad says I going to take it to the farm right now to sight it in. I watched him put it back in the bag take it away put it in the truck and drive off, so I was like their he goes. On Christmas morning my dad hands me a box about a foot long and 8 inches wide in about 6 inches tall I open it and in the dead center there's a Reese's taped to the bottom of it and a note that says "eat this you'll need it for strength" so I eat it and I get another box about the same size just a little bigger. I open that box but I pull a box out of that box, then I pull out a box out of that box and by the end I get about 15 to 16 boxes and in the last box I pull out a small bag with a "candy cane" ( it was really a 6.5 Creedmoor bullet that just had two Candy cane ends with Christmas wrapper around it). Snap the candy cane and I find a bullet. I'm like oh that's cool and then my Dad gives me a gun strap ... and I asked him what are you saying? He then pulls out the gun with the scope on it and I just fall backwards because I looked at the thing 2 weeks before Christmas and said I loved the gun and I didn't even know it was mine. And on that day that was probably the best Christmas gift I ever gotten but I've never felt so grateful and so in debt.

Nice video as always. This is a good video that a lot of people need to watch. People get so hung up on group sizes for a hunting rifle, I have been guilty of it in the past. There is a huge difference between a bench target rifle and a hunting rifle for say coyote sized animals and up. This video showed it, a .80 inch gun smacking steel out to 500 and that should be most folks limit.......500 yards....maybe even 400. I am not knocking 6.5 Kardashian but this would be a nice rifle in 25-06 Remington.

The Proof barrels are excellent quality. The Savage action is known to be accurate. I'd be willing to bet that a solid bedding job would cut those groups way down.. and only cost you a tiny amount of weight.. less than that beefy scope mount :-)

Aluminum weighs very little compared to glass. The HD glass scopes weigh significantly more than non-HD glass scopes. If you want to keep weight down, the beefy scope rings might increase weight 1/2 to 1 ounce compared to maybe 8-10 ounces more for a target scope with HD glass than a hunting scope. You can get good scopes that weigh 15 ounces versus target scopes that weigh 25-30 ounces. Also keep the tube diameter to 30mm instead of bumping to 34mm. That adds significantly more glass mass and increases weight more. Some of those target scopes with a 34mm tube weigh in close to 40 ounces! Look at the Nightforce Tactical Riflescope ATACR 7-35x56.

@@Uberragen21 I wholeheartedly agree, however glass is one of the few things "worth" the weight DEPENDING on intended application. I'm perfectly satisfied with my 1-4 Trijicon my AR. Nice and light and it fits the role. My .308 had a lot more weight in melted silica. His rifle was built for taking long shots out west. In that case, the clarity and magnification matter.

I hear you on the scope thing. I bought a Savage Storm and fitted it with heavy rings and a heavy 30mm scope. Didn't realize how much weight I was adding, and ended up with a 9.5 lb setup. Glad I'm not using it out west, but like you point out, weight in glass can be worth it.

I have the same gun in 280ai, i handload for it and i get cut the groups WAY down. 0.15 moa. Bedding the action will do nothing. Its a solid mount action, free floating barrel….

The Savage Ultralite is one of the most accurate rifles I have shot out of the box. I shoot a 300 wsm in the same rifle. I handload and it's best 5 shot group is a .88" group at 300 yards. Super nice rifles.

Beautiful gun! It was between this and the tikka t3x super light this year and I went with the tikka, while this is an amazing rifle I’m beyond happy with the tikka..

@@timjude- i guess it is a personal preference. Tikka stocks are known to be very stiff and do not cushion the felt recoil. If you handload, the Savages typically have more length in the available seating depth of the bullet. The magazine on the tikka is also restrictive in that it limits the depth of the bullet to the SAMI spec unless you modify the magazine. There is more options for barrels and stocks with the savage, although the new Tikkas have a couple new models. I got better accuracy from my 110 ultralight than my Tikka T3x, 0.4 moa vs 1.0 moa. Overall both awesome guns though. I just like my savage a little better!

I have this rifle with the sporting barrel it’s awesome and loves hornady superformance 129gr and nosler 120gr rounds can shoot 3 rounds threw the same hole all day at 100 yards and can shoot 1/2 inch groups at 200+/-25 yards

I'm just getting into "recoil management". ie, making sure the rifle can move back slightly and slides straight back, not jumps. You might tighten up those groups by working on that. Use a "soft shoulder" that contacts the top of the buttpad in line with the barrel as much as possible.

I bought an M96, 1900 made Swedish Mauser back in March this year 2020 for $450 and took it to the range...shooting the 120 old rifle in 6.5 mm Swedish caliber and shot 3 rounds of commercial ammo...with the original iron sights two rounds hit 1/4" apart and the 3rd round went about 1 and 1/2" to the right and up...65 year old eyes too...so, fancy stuff is not that much better...yep, Savage rifle is pretty, I must say...but, I like the old stuff...all matching numbers on the Swede...so, I fired 3 rounds through the rifle so far to this day 11/4/2020. Ammo is not cheap, so I conserve my ammo...may really need it one day...

Very Cool Carbon Fiber barrel !!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a Savage Model 111 Trophy Hunter in 7mm-08 an it is has a very accurate at 200 yards !!!!!!!!!!!!

First time to the channel like your format great review on the ultralite I just bought one in 6.5 prc I’m curious how that creedmore would shoot with the variety of ammo out there any reason you didn’t try the hornady precision hunter great bullet and seams to be very accurate in a variety of different guns. I will day for what the gun offers 1500 is crazy cheap blue printed action and a proof barrel alone should cost close to that if you pieced it together I run a proof barrel on my custom 7 mag the accuracy is crazy even with coppers running threw it.

Cold bore group is all that matters when hunting in my opinion

First shot counts when hunting Black grouse and other small game. In moose hunting most shots are taken at 50m or less so you can go big game hunting in bushy areas with clean barrrel. Small differenses Dont matter anymore at those distanses and huge Animals. If i clean My rifle, i shoot couple shots in The Moss at The Moring of hunting Day. Because clean barrrel always shoots 1-2" awy @ 100yard.

Nice rifle, I would like to see you shoot some Hornady eld match through it. I have a savage 6mmbr that shoots .201 5 shot groups consistently with 108gr eld's.

I bought a Marlin XS7 bolt in .308 about 20 years ago. It has the Savage floating bolt, barrel nut, accutrigger. It's super. I filed down the front of the once piece mount to get my 2x7- 33mm Leupold scope mounted low enough. That mount is way too long.

I know the UltraLite does not come with the AccuStock rail system, have you seen any issues with the stock not being stiff enough

This tip might help you group long range,,,put your front sand bag as far forward as you can but don’t let it touch the barrel, also look away towards the sky to close your pupils just before you shoot ,,when your pupils are smaller , your vision is at its peak.

Total MSRP cost (less the picatinny rail and rings) $3708.99! Total weigh (less the picatinny rail and rings) is 7.1 lbs! That a boat anchor heavy scope for such a light weight rifle. Adding picatinny rail and rings, sling and ammunition it's most likely pushing 8 lbs!

I live out on the grasslands here in wyoming and the average shot we have to take is 300 to 700 yards to put a dear or pronghorn down.

Good clear optics and knowing a target makes it pretty easy. He could also have a live feed from his target camera sitting off screen. If that’s the case I’m a little jealous.

If you can’t bud. Your buying the wrong scope. It pays to buy good scopes. Try Element optics Helix 400 bucks or nexus 1500 bucks will do it. B.

Rat107 Vortex optics are pretty good as well. Don’t be worried about getting “more” magnification than you “need” either. Not sure we’re phrases like “that’s too much scope for that rifle” come from but that’s a myth.

How is the action and aftermarket support?

Did you mention a blueprint action off camera?

Buffal gets excellent group with Ruger predator in 6.5 creed,or..maybe you should let him test the Savagemfor you🙀

Savage is way under rated, i have an axis that is a sub moa gun for $300

I’d like to know how this rifle compares to a .308? Maybe compared to the Savage .308 that looks rather similar to this rifle. I’m asking because 1st I value your opinion and 2nd I’m trying to decide which rifle to purchase and I haven’t tested either the 6.5 creedmoor or the .308. And FYI I’ll definitely be using it to hunt mule deer but i might also use it to hunt elk, bear and cougar. Thank you for all of your excellent videos

I have the 110 tactical in 308 it is very simaler to this Rifle, just has the aluminum bedding in the stock and a fluted steel barrel. It does weigh almost 10 lbs but I have personally shot groups in the 1/2 to 3/4 inch range. And it only costs about 700 bucks so just over half what this Rifle costs

If you want to hunt elk and bear any any sort of range your going to want to step up to a more powerful cartridge. They make the ultralite in .270, 280 A.I, and 28 Nosler which are all much better choices for what you want to do. I just got this rifle in 28 Nosler because it will be my do it all gun for bigger game. It will have no problem taking anything from deer up to elk or moose just by using a heavier bullet for the bigger game.

500 hundred is no joke, i'v shot further but i never hit first shot i have to adjust after i see the miss, with what i have loaded up this season i'm only comfortable shooting at a deer to 400 if im feeling real steady

You need to put about 5 boxes of ammo through that thing. And when you are in Wyoming, see if you can get a hunt for one of those monster mulies. You have an awesome gun for a better than average shooter. Keep practicing. You can do it. point five at 500 yards.

But will it be as good without spending the same or more a scope? The cost goes up quick when ya add on these hi end optics. What would it do with a bushnell or something reasonable prices.

Rule of thumb always start with the best optics you can get first, then upgrade the rifle. even a $300 rifle can be very accurate with a good scope just not as good quality obviously.

I would like to see other types of ammo through this rifle, to see what it really likes.

Best would be reloading and doing ladder tests to find out what exact powder charge, bullet, trim length, bullet seat depth the rifle likes, that and having consistant specs for every round you fire.. but it is very time consuming

Yeah I have seen Barnes groups through this rifle where they are touching! He needs more quality ammo

Just curious is that bolt pretty rough?

I have a browning BLR .243 and a Nikon pro-staff BDC 3x9 and can shoot .5" bulls eye groups. I think my $170 scope is good enough for me.

Not that everyone would use a Leupold 3-18 power scope, but why not include it's Mark as well? Just for added information. Thanks.

I have watched a lot of these videos. Plinkster is a great shot but he rarely does precision shooting. This rifle is way more accurate than this. I watched with interest on the ruger precision rim fire. In fact I bought one solely on he’s review and with a vortex optic and one box of federal match it was shooting three round groups that touched each other at 100yds Handed the fire arm over to my buddy and he did the same thing. My point is usually the rifle is way more accurate than you see here. I would bet that this rifle would shoot touching groups at 100 yards and not break a sweat doing it. So no I doubt a 400$ ruger would out shoot this and I do not think plinkster cares a lot about precision shooting. He does solid reviews. Not precision target shooting. Edit: Great video. Keep it up

3:54 That scope is NOT a "3 by 18," it's a 3 *to* 18, by 44. "3 to 18" defines the zoom range in magnification powers, and the "by 44" defines the diameter of the objective lens in millimeters.

I have been waiting 18 months for a 110 ultralite in 300 wsm it may arrive in Australia mid 23.. maybe ... sigh..

Knowing Australia's reputation, your whitetails are probably bigger than ours here in the states.

Does this model use AICS Mags?

Use a quality bipod and rear bag and you will see actual capabilities of that rifle. I recommend Accutac Bipods!

I have a 110 tatical with an athlon Midas tac on top and boy is she is a tack driver, but boy is she heavy girl lol. Let us know if you have any ejection issues as mine is really weak...

New to your channel and a new sub! What are your thoughts on the 6.5 Creedmoor elk? How does recoil for this compare to 308? I'm curious because I don't know anyone with a gun chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I plan on getting a (2nd) rifle for my grandson suitable for elk and would like something fairly soft shooting. I am just beginning my search and would welcome your input. Regards from the Idaho panhandle!

It's less recoil then a .308 and plenty good to take elk within reason and good shot placement.

Thanks for posting! Another fine rifle. When it comes to firearms, I just like the experience of owning and shooting. I look at owning guns in a positive way. From 2nd Amend issues, to the responsibility of owning, trust between local gov and that citizen, all good. Art, Science, technology, ballistics, to History. Hunting. “Self defense”, a far second for me and not about - should not be a total focus. That “Gun” is apart of the USA as much as apple pie, hot dogs, beer, baseball, fishing, and Chevrolet! Something like that. That Scope - Wow..

You have too make your own ammo for the rifle if you want to find out its accurasy potential.

When i go hunting i use a franchi fast pro that coms in at 6 lbs and 4oz. thats what Google says it ways ways

Just depends on the optics, 1500 yards is not unreasonable.
