Thanks for putting this test together-nice work. My favorite factory 6.5 PRC load has been the Hornady Precision Hunter 143 gr ELD-X. These loads are shooting 5/8” groups at 100 yards and 3/4” groups at 300 yards. 3/4” group at 300 yards is pretty impressive for factory loads. My rifle is the SAKO S20 Hunter with 1 in 8 twist and I dearly love this rifle. I am an avid reloader and I can beat the factory Hornady Precision Hunter loads in accuracy but not by much as these rounds are impressive in my gun. On the Hornady Precision Hunter 143 gr ELD-X the box gives a velocity of 2,960 fps; however, I could only get 2,725 fps on my chronograph. Aside from the lower than advertised velocity, these factory loads are great.

I've had really good luck so far with the eldx hornady load. I think it had to do with the stability factor of the bullet, but my groups at 450yds were tighter than expected. Shot right about .5-1.2 MOA at 100yds, but about 4" groups at 450yds. The 4DOF app has worked well also

One thing I learned from Ron Spomer and BackfireTV - shooting copper bullets out of a barrel that has not been cleaned after shooting copper jacketed bullets (like eldx) causes acccuracy issues. I experienced this myself out of a few rifles - Bergara Squared Crest, Christensen Mesa and Ridgeline. If I clean the barrel and only shoot Barnes bullets, I got significantly better groups as opposed to shooting eldx and then Barnes without cleaning. Check out their videos for better and more accurate info than I can provide. Thanks for the video!

Eld-x gets a bad rap but we just used it in Africa with very good results. From springbok to Kudu, to Roan. Recovered bullets did show some separation, but the shock and tissue damage that bullet causes is unreal.

Hey guys, my 6.5 PRC is a Ruger Hawkeye LRT and it shoots the Barnes LRXs very well. I have liked all of the TTSXs that I've shot also. They all have very good penetration being a monolithic. That also gives you greater latitude as to where you can go hunt with it. Not all states/areas allow lead bullets.

I've tried both the hornady precision hunter and the Barns LR in my 6.5 prc. Hornady I got 5 stuck cartridges and horrible groups 1.5 to 2 moa at 100 yards with 120 rounds. Barns LR 0.5" at 100 yards and 1" groups at 200 yards. No stuck casings or other issues. Excellent cold bore shots as well. I would recommend the Barns 127 ga. over the hornady.

The accubond is my choice of bullet but im a handloader. You may find the eldx will have jacket core seperation at tge higher velicities of the prc compared to the creedmoor. May be worth trying the hornady cx 130 grain loads to see if youre rifle likes it. Out to 400 yoi have more than enough velocity if you wanted to shoot solid copper like the cx or ttsx.

Bonded lead will always be superior to monolithic copper. Lead is heavier and can therefore be cast hard or soft to either expand better than copper (like varmint bullets) or penetrate deeply like hard cast slugs. You cannot get high sd monolithic bullets. You might get adequate penetration and you might out-penetrate a bullet (like the Berger bullets and ELDX to an extent) designed to fragment, but not a good heavy jacket bonded copper bullet. Accubond/Scirocco/Bondstrike etc... will be the best bet until the Feds stop lead on public lands.

So this is from when we first got it. I believe it sped up some as we shot it more. Barnes: avg 2824 Hornady: avg 2745 Norma: avg 2805 Nosler: avg 2749 As I said, I’m pretty sure it sped up a bit. We shot the Hornady later and had an avg of 2782. The Normas averaged 2817 later.

That Barns is great for elk but I wouldn’t use it for deer! Norma are great ammo as is the Accubond! Norma are the best for the price in that group!

It’s fun to try out the new things. I just looked on Norma’s website and didn’t see 25-06 in stock.

My suggestion is sell this rifle. Were you 25 yards from the target or 200?
