6.5 Grendel. 90 grain Speer TNT. Tested In my 20" and 24" rifles. Super fast velocity.

    Good morning Dave! My grendel is more squirrely than I would like also. I load the same bullet and it took me a while to dial it in. After several powders (benchmark was terrible for me) I went back to imr 3031. Yes it's a dinasour powder but it really tightened things up and gave me satisfactory velocity just over 2850 in my 18in bca. Seated longer at 2.230. 30.0 3031(compressed load but 3031 compresses very easily and didn't deform the bullet at all when seated) Br 4 primer These will hang up in your feed ramps also. I had to do some work to my magazines and fully blend and polish my feed ramps. Best of luck brother and God bless.👍

    Thanks for your input and experience. Fortunately I only bought 200 of these picky bullets for $40.00. I have had great success with 100gn through 123 gn. with the 120 grain gold dot being my most precise and accurate. (See my Grendel playlist). I will only try 1 other powder and go to my stand bye cci-450 primers. But if you look at that first load at 30.4 grains worked well in both rifles. But the occasional feeding issue is a non starter, compared to my other proven bullets.

    It hasn't blown up probably because ammo is expensive for an intermediate cartridge. Plus the only ammo I can ever find on shelves is Hornady ELD at about $1.50/rd. Many people shooting distance or hunting are going to spring For .308 or 6.5CM for around $1.00-$1.20/rd. You can get cheaper Grendel from Wolf: 100gr steel case FMJ at around 70c/rd, but accuracy is not at all consistent. I've gotten just over .700 moa all the way up to about 2ish moa from my 20" barrel. I suppose I just need to start hand loading.

    @@happysnowfish Yes, handloading can make your rifle/ammo combo more consistent, but you will not make rounds at a lower cost, initially. But over time you will because brass can be reused. But then again you will also be shooting allot more often.

    Generally, 6.5mm rounds tend to do much, much better with moderate velocities in the 2,500 - 2,700 fps range. Once you start hitting 3,000 fps, the group's will start to open up. Also, at the beginning of the video, I noticed that while you were talking, your scarf was blowing quite a bit. I estimate the cross wind at about 10 mph and maybe 15 mph with the slight gusts. These bullets, since they're lighter, shorter and aren't as streamlined as the longer, heavier boat tails, will get affected by cross winds alot more. Did you say that your 24" bbl rifle was a Sanders Armory rifle?

  • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009

    @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009

    Good catch! 24" is also a BCA upper. My 6mm ARC is a Sanders Armory upper. I did test the 100 grain Hornady eldm and the Sierra 107gn TMK for the Grendel in previous videos at about 2750 -2800fps and you are spot on in your velocity experiences.. My experience with winds at a target at 100 yards shows a minor effect at fast velocities but most definitely a factor. Thanks for watching and for your comment.

    No I have not in either of my BCA Grendels. I do not shoot steel cased ammo, so I cannot speak to those cased ammo, mainly because they are not recommended for reloaders. I also do not stress my rifles with high volume shooting like the more tactical oriented shooters. There are many folks smarter than me that point out the major weakness of the grendel is the bolt that is machined thinner than a 5.56 because of the larger base diameter.
