Videos like this prove that no matter how bad it gets for the value of new PC hardware for the purposes of getting a gaming PC on a budget, used/older generation hardware always remains a solid option. Tho the sad reality is the vast majority of people tend to go the prebuilt route rather than built it themselves which that by itself I'm not shamming, but more for the problem of SI's cutting corners in the choice of parts to make the PC met a particular price point. I'm stil seeing a lot of new prebuilts with 500gb ssd as the only storage drive, and 16gb of ram sometimes even 8gb of ram. Which often leads to ether a unsatisfied customer, or an early upgrade in which case you prob should have just bought the more expensive computer that came with more ram and storage to begin with. Tho one good thing about PCs is they are in most cases upgradable to some extent.

You’re right and I agree with you, but the unfortunate counter to this is that $550 will get you an Xbox or PS5 that will readily outperform this machine in gaming which was Greg’s intended use. Obviously you get a lot more utility out of a PC but if all you want to do is play games this build is right in the verge of being not worth it.

A nice well vented case with all those fans for around $60 is a heck of a deal and I really liked that GPU support bracket! The future upgrade potential is almost limitless. My only complaint with that mesh side panel is the sheer amount of dust that could potentially invade the system but regular maintenance should reduce that issue. The 1660 isn't a bad card for the price because it seems that used CPU and GPU prices are going up again. About this time last year I picked up a GTX-1080ti 11GB card used for $180. They are way higher now. Not sure why.

Throw in an extra hundred or so and you could go with a rx 6600 and get a really balanced rig. This PC at least has a nice upgrade path to an Ryzen 7 5700-5800X3D, A GPU like a 4060/4060 Ti without really needing to change your Motherboard, RAM and PSU. And the mesh side panel just screams air flow which will help higher end components dissipate heat more effectively and of course screams RGB too. The case will really come into its own once the internal parts are upgraded significantly. And really, most cases don't even have a built in vertical GPU mount. Personally I would go with a modular PSU if you can find it at a good price then you can just pop the PSU out while leaving the cables installed if I really need to upgrade that as well!

Lmao, the case. Bought a MOROVOL full mesh for 50, turns out to be a Z I4 but without the vertical mount/slots and gpu support . But really tho, very good case especially for 50. I also added some Thermalalright TL-C12C-Sc's which, amazingly are $12, come in a pack of 3 and are 4pin and added them as intakes and god does it look fine and they pull in a ton of air

Wow this is a little faster than a 7 year old mid range graphic card. Luckily we have nowadays up-scaling tech so we can game at 720p internal resolution.

Ah, the GTX 1660. Basically 980Ti-level performance, no die space wasted on freaking RT cores. The last "gaming" laptop I will ever buy was a Core i7 9750H / 1660Ti setup, and in its day it could certainly game. A GTX 1660 is a really good card to have "lying around" in case your primary GPU breaks. I keep a 980Ti on the shelf for the same purpose. And yes, yes, yes. For this amount of money, it's AM4 all day long. My secondary gaming rig is a 5700X /6800XT, and it's no slouch.

One small remark, a 5600 would give you PCI4 for Future GPUs, but a GTX 1660 dont need it.

It is scary on how much this setup matches mine, only difference is the case and GPU. I got a 1060 6GB and uhh case is semi-unknown... But I think it's a DeepCool

For my $550 I think I would much rather go with a used system. I just found an Intel 8700K with a Radeon RX5700XT system for $450. 750W power supply, 16Gb DDR4, 256Gb NVME, two 500Gb SSD's and a BeQuiet case. I think it will easily outperform the system here. Not a bad rig here either, I just think used is the way to go. To each there own.

Spending 65 on a PSU and 70 on a case is crazy at this level of budget, you can go down to 50 on both and going amd u can snipe an RX6600 with your now 115 budget for gpu... you can even go higher if you compromise with used ram.

I'm not putting a shitty $40 PSU in any build if I can help it... The case is subjective. Cases reaaaaally drop in quality at around the $50 mark nowadays. It was a personal preference. The 1660 is still a great card for 1080p gaming.
