It never ceases to amaze me how often front panel connectors can cause these kinds of problems. Thanks for the info!
Had a Asus Rog MB before. Had the same pop-up with nothing plugged into the board... This is a bad issue with Asus Rog.. I despise Asus when i tried to RMA the board they denied.....
Oops forgot to remove front type-c, I doudbt it works... dude the error was about USB :/
My PC will do something very similar if I just bump my USB C front side connector on the motherboard. I just wriggle it until it boots and leave it alone. It's just the connector.
This happened to me on my personal build. the front panel type C motherboard cable was plugged in the wrong way, I flipped it around and it worked and got past the boot cycle. You might wanna try and ask the owner to plug in the type C cable again, if it doesn't go through POST, flip it. That's what I did and it worked.
cool
Oh,i quite understand ya,Greg. You didn't wanted to dismantle it,in order to replace the cable yourself 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Hmm. USB device over current. I think I managed onetime to put USB-C connector wrong way to mother board. I was thinking should this connector be this tight. After that boot message I noticed my mistake. :D
I have run in too this problem before, in that case i just take the usb-c connector and turn it 180 and replugged it and the problem was gone. Try that and see if that can solve the problem. Btw im a huge fan from sweden and looks at all your videos. Have learned a lot from you, so a big thanks 😄
Just turn that OverCurrent thing off in the bios, i got random shut downs years ago on my z170-WS same error after it restarts it won't damage anything been off for years now!
USB over current isn't rare but it's rather uncommon. What typically happens in these cases is the manufacturer will use a PCB for a front USB 2.0 or 3.0 type A (or a 3.0 and type C) but the PCB only has one fuse for all the USB ports. Not. A. Smart. Idea. 😂 My FD Focus G has one fuse to control a USB 2.0 port and a 3.0 port, and guess what happens when I put my wireless mouse receiver in the 2.0 port and any 3.0 flash drive or SSD in the 3.0 port? My mouse becomes a flea - it is so starved for bandwidth and voltage from the 3.0 device plugged in that the fuse can't handle it. Word of advice: order a USB type C rear bracket from Amazon. That way you don't have to yank another case out of the closet - a rear case bracket is much more appropriate and time efficient. Another tip: order a push button from Mouser and solder a positive and negative case wire to it. You can use that push button to power on a system instead of jumping the board with a screwdriver. As a bonus, hook it to the Clear CMOS header whenever you need to clear CMOS. Just hold the button in for a few seconds and you're good.
I learn so much from this series thank you for doing these.
I Liked the honesty!
Man almost season 6. Love these videos man always something new to learn.
Good job on this one, can't wait for the next episode.
at 7 min now, but plugging in the type C upside down can happen
Building a pc is A LOT harder than it looks. I’ll be on day 3 of building my pc but I’m close, at least there will be a lot of gratification. 4070 super core i7-12700k
I agree with you re: mining. I could never wrap my mind around how you were really contributing To me it seemed valueless
The screen have the usb over current detected I notice that the computer detects that there were 4 keyboard connect that can be the problem with the usb error.
I knew that it was a cable issue. Thought he might have had something plugged in wrong at first.
Shame you didn’t show what bios security settings was needed to boot into windows. Any over volt issues go back to basic requirements to boot up system. Problem solving can be a nightmare but always good to track down the culprit. Would have been hilarious if it did boot with case connection plug back in.
i miss PCDC!! i love this series tho
This guy wouldve got a brand new motherboard for no reason if u didn’t test that usb c thank goodness u did 😭🙏
I've seen that a couple of times when nothing was connected and ended up being the motherboard
Carey holzman had a faulty case cable a while back and I bought a second hand coolermaster cube with a similar issue!
This happened to me. Do a 180 with the type C where it connects to motherboard. Fixed mine.
I remember having several PCs with burn issues back in the day from bulldozer platform. I think power surge protection just wasn't quite there yet.
Did not see that coming 🤔
The USB overcurrent error has been a bug on Asus boards since X99
My first motherboard I bought from amazon was the Z690 Maximus Hero and it came with broken and bent pins in the cpu socket. Once I contacted asus for support they told me to contact amazon for support even tough the board was brand new and had warranty documents to be filled in and was successfully registered for warranty in asus's armoury crate app. After that shit show I finally understood what "For those who dare" ment and went for MSI's Z690 UNIFY and to this day it's doing it's job without any issues.
LOL @ the 9 min point or so, that swirl on the boot screen was being caused because the BIOS had a RAID specific enabled.
just wondering if you ever considered resetting the cmos?
While you can do it I don’t really think it is worth trying to cram everything into these small cases...
My nephews computer had the same problem... just decided not to connect the type C connector, lol.
Love this series and your vidoes Greg, I also notice you like watches and wear a few different ones. Would you ever do a video about your watch collection? I know that isn't tech, but I would be interested!
I used to get this error with an Elgato USB capture card.
i love these. great lessons in trouble shooting.
Enabling CSM is never the answer. Nobody should be enabling CSM.
You probably already checked, but I had to get a replacement GPU adapter for my NZXT H1 case, because the original that shipped with it could short and even cause a fire. It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that the GPU adapter is what fried the cable or USB port. Even if it didn't, owner will want to make sure that they have the appropriate replacement cable. Even better, they may want to just purchase a 3rd party replacement, as the one that shipped with the H1 was only rated for Gen 3 and not Gen 4.
It’s just a different kind of casino idk why that’s so confusing. It’s probably got worse odds than the real one but that’s what it is nice and simple.
i had the issue myself with the nzxt 510 ended up being standoffs that caused a short
I've seen that issue before, it is usually caused by the actual I/O panel on the case not being grounded correctly and shorting out.
what a weird issue but I can relate in a sense. I can't use my case's front USB-C port because I didn't make sure the motherboard I bought even HAD a Type-C header on it. it doesn't. It's the Rog Strix B550-F Gaming WiFi II and it doesn't have a Type-C header. I haven't built a computer since before USB-C became a standard so I've just never had case USB-C to this day. doesn't really bother me tho, I have a rear I/O USB-C and I just use that if I need it, just like this guy will have to.
have you ever sat down at your computer played the latest Greg Salazar video, only to find out your new lego building set took most of your attention away, while building right in front of the monitors, then after building you realize you heard Greg's video but, didn't watch or pay attention: just some lovely background noise that you heard Welp lol, that was me tonight here goes the 2nd time I'm playing the video lol 😂
At the beginning of the video, I was pretty certain that the CPU had been overclocked and damaged, or there was a short on the motherboard. Glad to see it was a much simpler issue!
This is a really good episode.
If it's just a pass through cable, could it not also be a faulty USB-C port?
wooohoooooo new fix or flop video :D
Why we test before we put it in the case 😂 “When in doubt, take it out”
getting the replacement cable from NZXT shouldn't be any problem. I actually had the 3.5mm headphone jack die on my Lian Li 011 Air Mini. I contacted Lian Li and they sent one out no problem. It's sitting in a box on a shelf though because they sent me the entire front panel board and it's impossible to get the old one out without taking my mobo and all fans out of the case which I'm not doing. So I'll continue to use the back mobo output 3.5mm jack, just with an extension cable.
I love this series!
