5 Years in the UK! (Citizenship? Studies! Life!)

I have now been in the UK for 5 years and can finally apply for a citizenship test! This video has been a long time coming and even now, right before I am making this public while typing this I am still very insecure about it but I wanted to share my past 10 years. If anyone out there is in a bad situation, I want you to know that things can get better and that you should never be afraid to open up and ask for the help of those you trust! I simply cannot thank everyone enough for changing my life as you have! Love you, truly.

Rita, A friend who is no longer with me once said, "The world was is and will be a shitty place, find something you love and be passionate for it". I take that advice to heart. It has helped me a lot. Maybe it will help you. Be strong. Be happy. And keep tonking the bean. 🤣

As to your "days", I have been fighting mine for 50+ years. I am just now coming to grips with some of it. You have much more support now than I did, so you will do much better, and faster. Just by admitting to them you are starting to over come them, and each time you over come one makes it easier to over come the next, and the next. You will do well.

Wow what a story. I have always LIKED Jingles. He was the first I ever followed on line and still do. My favorite being you and Him on Mingles with Jingles when you are there with him, laughing, teasing and drinking questionable beers. Your mutual care and joy in each others warms my heart but after this the word like no longer suffices. Now I LOVE Jingles and you too Rita. I am So glad you got out. How brave of you and how wonderful you ended up with Paul (Jingles). You are both lucky and deserving of each others loving friendship! You are a lovely person Rita. Seriously you are like the sun.

My wife just came in from a walk, and I've spent the past 10 minutes giving her a precis of the video - unbelievable hardship you went through, and the story of your journey to the UK was just - wow. Hi Rita. Greetings from NC, USA! Thank you so much for posting this. I always wondered what your story was, and how you came to meet Jingles and wound up in the UK. This really resonates with me, because I’ve recently faced demons of my own. The end of my marriage was an earth-shattering affair, and I’ve struggled with depression for many months. Some days are still hard, but you and Jingles have both helped me more than you’ll ever know. Silence has been my greatest enemy; just listening to you guys talk, about anything and everything, has been a light in the darkness for me. Jingle’s “Workshop Wednesday" inspired me to get back into Warhammer, and painting miniatures has been very therapeutic for me; it gives me focus, and helps me to pass the lonely days by. I’ve been w/ Jingles since 2012, and sometimes I feel like you guys are my roommates because you’re always talking in the background :) Thank you both so very much! Love you guys, and take care!

And so kind of you to thank the people who were willing and able to help you out. Many lesser people would have become bitter. You've got a good heart. And I'm happy to see that Mr. Charlton is the kind man he is as well. He seems like the kind of man every child would want as a dad. I had the same problem where i have a single mom who worked constantly. I hardly got to spend time with her. When I did, she was abusive and it was like walking in eggshells. I survived being suicidal and severe anxiety, depression, being alone. Just because I am a tough guy doesn’t mean i didn’t need help. But I am glad i am happier now at age 19. Age 18 was one of the worst years leading to this year being so much better.

Rita - My big regret about this video is that I only saw it a year after you published it! I have enjoyed following your KZread videos, and have always appreciated your candor. But after your amazingly strong and heart-felt openness demonstrated so well in this video, I feel I have actually come to know someone I had previously only "admired from afar." You are one hell of a brave and strong person. I feel a true appreciation for you as a person - dare I say as a friend - after getting to know you so well in this conversation you made for us. You are a most impressive person that anyone should be grateful to have as a friend. Thank you for your courage in making me a part of your life as you have with this video. Please know that I have supported you - and continue to do so - as you have made your growth and struggles over the years, and I wish nothing other than peace and happiness for you. Keep on with pursuing your dreams and don't let anything stop you. Since it is now July of 2021, I am seeing that you are no longer living in the room in Paul's house. I hope things are good with you and Jingles, but in any case, I hope you are continuing to grow and find yourself. I know you must be working on expanding your own personal horizons, and I wish and hope for you nothing but success. I have all the confidence in the world in you, and I'm positive that you will achieve the things you need to achieve. Best wishes in your studies and your citizenship. Thank you for your open and honest friendship! Viva Rita!

If you are happy with yourself now and where you are in your life then you owe those mistakes just a little acknowledgement for getting you where you're at now (as long as you're happy). Mistakes make us who we are, sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse, if we learned something then that mistake wasn't a wasted mistake. Btw, you are just an awesome person! Thank you for sharing and having the courage to talk so openly about subjects that must be deeply personal and so painful for you. I'm happy for you that your life now seems to be on an upward trajectory, and I hope that continues. As a Brit I can't do anything other than hang my head in shame that the government of my country chooses to make it so difficult for good people like you to settle and live here and become part of us. As a retired police officer, I have seen what you've been through and had the training to recognize it. I am glad you got out when you did and never looked back. I hope that anyone that read what follows and see it happening in their own life or that of someone else close to them, they will reach out for help. An abusive relationship usually never starts with physical violence. The abuser will start by seemingly minor controlling measures. They will gradually "guide" their victim into isolation. They don't want their victim to have any friends. They will always find reasons to avoid their victim's old friends and family. Once isolated, they will begin fostering a deep dependency on their victim - only one car, not allowed to work, cell phone and internet passwords set by them, all social media monitored. From there, it will move to verbal abuse, minor at first like putting their victim down in front of their friends, making sure the never miss a chance to tell their victim how "worthless" they are and how they are the only one that wants their victim. From there, treasured items and pets or even children will be used to anchor the victim to them. Physical abuse begins. That will cycle, abuse followed by a "honeymoon" period where the abuser will often promise never to to it again and treat the victim nicely - until the next abuse incident. Those "honeymoon" periods will become shorter and shorter until they disappear altogether. Ultimately the victim will become a virtual slave to the abuser, the abuser will abandon the victim, having totally broken them to the point they will actually look for another abuser, or the abuser murders their victim. One statistic, I do not know how current it is now, showed that a person in an abusive relationship will leave and return to that relationship an AVERAGE of NINE TIMES before they finally break free or they become a murder victim. If you want out but don't know how, contact your police department. They have the resources to help you and can refer you to places where you can get the assistance you need to be able to leave.

I never realised quite how close i was to that until I read your post. Sure, I've read elsewhere this is how it starts and, whilst my previous relationship was quite emotionally manipulative I always said, well, he's never stopped me from seeing friends and family, he's never hit me, he's never stopped me doing what I want to do. But then I look back and remember all the times he'd throw a tantrum because I wanted to go visit friends i've had since uni (he used to say that it's stupid that I carry on being friends with them as people change from uni and I should be making new friends, not hanging on to old friends) and you know what, it became easier for me not to visit my friends and family. I didn't have the mental energy to deal with his tantrums and verbal onslaught. So no, he never actually stopped me, he just never said it outright. He just made it so difficult that it was easier to go along with what he wanted. He never set passwords, or kept track of my phone, but again would make such a fuss that, as a couple we shouldn't keep anything private, that it was easier to let him have access. Everything was much easier letting him get his own way because if I didn't it would emotionally and mentally exhaust me so much that I would become physically ill. I got out, but when I read your post it terrified me knowing just how close it was to flipping over into a more abusive relationship. Thank you for writing this and please, please make sure you share/post it as much as you can.

Very brave video Rita. RESPECT. I greatly appreciate your honesty and openness. I sincerely hope it helps any one else in a similar situation to see there is light at the end of the tunnel. I always felt Jingles was a great guy just listening to the way he speaks on his videos and how he avoids being drawn into negative debates and being un pleasant in his comments. Now we really know what a fantastic guy he is! RESPECT again. You two seem to make a great team as you both bring entertainment to others. Thank you both for what you do and stay safe. (PS. I tried to listen to this video several times but I kept getting a lump in my throat. Got through it all this time and yes there was a tear in my eye) Live long and prosper.

This is the second youtube video I've seen in the last few weeks on almost exactly the same theme. What strikes me is the similarities and how difficult it can be to extract yourself from such a situation but in both cases there was someone special to help them through the worst of times. It really is worth reaching out to people, you never know it may change their lives forever.

Here I sit in Southern California, USA, watching your video from so far away. I've watched yours and Jingles' tank and game videos almost from the beginning. Always fun and entertaining. Now hearing about your struggles, and your ongoing recovery. I'll never know what it's like to go through that. I hope you can take your bad experiences and learn from them, and come out a better, more knowledgeable and stronger person because of it. Tank on, Tanker!!! Carry on!!

This is coming from someone who haven't followed you til Jingles mentions you whenever he would play tanks with you. Thank you for sharing your struggles and your journey.

I'm very glad to hear that you gathered your courage and sought help from your friends to get out of that situation. I worked here in the US as dispatch and corrections for nearly 3 years and saw so many girls and even boys that would call regarding domestic violence but then wouldn't file the actual charges the next day so would have to release the subject and then wait for the inevitable call again.. I'm very proud of you for that!
