Rita as ex 1AR RAAC (Australia) I can tell you you would hear the leo long before you saw it and felt it more as it got closer it was a give away as to whether you had to start looking out for the crazies in the cats at play or just could keep minding your own business in your M113A4 (APC with the Aussie T50 turret), but it is a sound and feel you never got tired of or stopped making you smile every time.

I loved seeing that firefly go around.

Reminds me of when I used to deliver pizza onto Aberdeen Proving Grounds; it was common to come ripping around a corner to find a couple tanks headed the opposite direction; M-60s, mostly, but the occasional M-88 from the Armor Recovery School, or a Paladin SPG, or even, on a good day, an early mark M-1 Abrams. My father worked on a bit of the armor scheme on the Abrams and the high-pressure 105mm rifled gun. My girlfriend's father worked as a driver at the Deer Creek Automotive Testing site. Occasionally, we'd even have a tank relocate under its own power through town... Watching sixty tons of weapon slowly bobbing as it rolled past gave a real sense the power of these beasts.

Awesome! I requested orders to DC just so we'd be close to Aberdeen. Used to take the kids up there and to the aquarium, constitution, etc. My nephew got stationed there later but a lot was lost on him. Jealous. Best days of my life., Until later. 👍

Only topped by an MLRS (MARS) battery firing a full salvo of missiles.

Rita, you should visit Finland and the Parola Armour Museum during their Open Days event. They drive their WW2 tanks (StuG III's and T-34's) as well as Cold War tanks (T-55, T-72, BMP's) for the audience. I'd love to give you a guided tour.
