The Zone Systems Master Class is almost ready for its big debut! In the meantime, check out this free Bonus Video complete with Actions and Textures.
One of the big new updates in the upcoming Zone Systems Course is the use of "Blend If" options. These are stuck in the Layer Styles of any layer and are quite possibly the most powerful tools in Photoshop.
In this free tutorial I will show you just how powerful they can be when combined with techniques you already use in your workflow. One of the creative ways you can use Blend If is in the photo texturing process.
Have a great weekend!

Blake being witty with a cool sense of humor, being extremely articulate and clear in your tutorial should suffice, but you are (in my opinion) a true gem among the sea of experts. Each one of your tutorials is superb! Thank you.

Dang right!
Excellent video - I've watched lots of KZread tutorials but this one added a load of interesting and useful techniques to my arsenal in a clear and easily understood way. Thanks!
Génial !!! Thank you for this tutoriel. Never thought this option could do such transformation !
Thank you so much. Quite possibly the best explanation on blend if - a subject that has eluded me since it was first introduced.
really great video. Thanks so much for this.
This is really a gem. Thank you, sir. It's like you've unlocked the mystery of Photoshop.
Great explanation of a truly useful technique. Thank you!
Great tutorial. Simple yet very effective
Genius! really interesting, like this alot
Thank you, really appreciate your sharing this amazing information!
Wow, these are quite interesting techniques, thanks for sharing! :)
Awesome, never know these methods, loved this video. Thanks a lot
Pretty great especially enjoyed the BlendIf info for vignettes and textures. Thank you! :)))
+f64 This is great, however there's a lot of ground covered. I hope I can remember it all. I've got the download started from your site. I'll subscribe to get your bleeps on new tutorials. You are one of two I'm willing to subscribe to. You speak well, but you cover a lot of ground. That makes it difficult to remember all these things (I'm old and forgetful). I've learned a lot here. I'll go over it again and again if need be! This is way cool of you to offer these tuts. Thanks heaps! You're a great guy!
Hi Thank you very much for sharing such wonderful and useful techniques.
I appreciate every single second of the tutorial :)
I love this video.thank you
Thanks for the video. Shows how useful Blend If is.
Very helpful tutorial. I'm going to watch all your blend if videos. Recently I am working on coloring old black and white photos (I do have a pile of old family photographs I want to have colored) and find blend if very useful, since both hue and saturation change with varying degrees of brightness, especially on human skin. Thank you very much.
very helpful. i like your pace not too fast, & your speech is very clear. this tutorial really worked. thanks. :)
Thank very much for sharing these tips!!
Simply amazing even the voice is a joy to listen to.
Really nice tut. love Blend if.
More than nice tips. Specially the "vignettes", simply whouwwwww. Awesome. THANKS to sharing it.
I enjoy your videos, thank you!!!
Very informative video. Thank you for sharing this great technique.
I reeeaallly liked the vignette part. I'll be using that in future work instead of the regular now boring vignette I usually use
pretty simple but effective - thanks Stanley!
Thank you sir! Very informative

Thanks for watching!
awesome vignette tip- for noise reduction on shadows- a luminosity mask will work too- making selections just in darks. or midtones or whatever tones you wish- I have an action for luminosity masks- so it's just a quick click to select darks, then run aggressive noise reduction on it- you can quickly control or increase the tones it covers by clicking "alt/L" key and adventist the slider- to increase or decrease tonal range- just another way to quickly apply noise reduction or sharpen to specific tones- Your saturation tip is great too- one of the best I've seen-
Thank you f64!
You are amazing of showing these techniques, I've learned so much. Many thanks.

I am watching it from time to time tbh :). Needs practice. Would you like to check out www.tsu.co/JUMOWA It's a free social network for artists that you can use like any other social network with the difference that you will get in contact with many photographers, musicians, celebrities, models from all over the globe. Btw, tsu shares 90% of its revenue with you - KZread only pays up to 55%. It's a invite only community and you need a code to register so make sure you use my invitation code JUMOWA if you decided to give it a try. Best wishes! This is no joke or scam. I have been on tsu since October 2014 and it's great. I have gotten to know people I would never get in touch on facebook because tsu promotes authenticity in posts and conversations. Let me know if you have any questions
Thanks Blake! i will try these techniques, i can see the vignette being a useful addition to my workflow, it has always bothered me that they were quite obvious. lets go Ravens! :p

Sir. You can do the same with a frequency seperation layer. Messing with the opacity of the tone/colour layer gives the same for a few things
สุดยอดมาก ขอบคุณมากครับ

I'm hooked on Blend If...
Wonderful techniques. I would like to ask a question about #5, Texturing Photos, specially the last part where a texture is added and use Blend If in NORMAL MODE. Very interesting! But I have tried it with out splitting apart the small black and white icons on Underlying Layer to maintain the raw aspect not the smooth suggested in the video. It works wonderfully but, BUT, when I make a stamp layer or flatten the layers you get a different result!!! It was such a surprise to me that I started making experiments with flattening and I also discovered that if you have a document with just two layers , the top layer being on Dissolve Mode, when you flatten you loose the effect also! Some on who can give me a hint? Is therr a solution to this?
