Hey Scotty have you ever researched the Dodge Journeys? I was in the market to buy a used SUV. While looking for one I noticed that a lot of these journeys less than 40,000 miles and they were dirt cheap. I thought it was way to good to be true so once I researched it I found a lot of people traded them in because of problems with the car turning off unexpectedly and other engine problems.

I had an LR3. Never left me on the side of the road, excellent road trip truck, and uber capable off road. Quietest interior I've experienced. I could hold a conversation with my kid who would sit in the third row. Because everything is hermetically sealed, in case you want to traverse a river, much of cost when at the shop was labor. My year/model required a special tool set. I don't know if that's still the case. Reliable, yes. Costly to maintain, relative to a Toyota, absolutley. Worth the truly exclusive luxury ride and experience, ..yes, no, yes...no.

Land and Range Rovers often have small issues that can be fixed using non-Land Rover parts. People make the mistake of going to their Land Rover dealer for new brakes then act surprised when they get charged $1,000 for new pads. That’s were the “ahhhh Land Rovers break down all the time” idea comes from. Little things sometimes break, but my mother who still drives a 2001 Range Rover has never had to replace the engine or transmission over the 165,000 miles she’s put on it.

I strongly disagree with the Escalade. We bought ours used (a 2006 model year) in 2012. Late 2020 we had to fix the differential, but other than that really no major problems. The only reason we got rid of it in June of 2021 was because of a Car accident and it was totaled.

I bought my 2002 Escalade used back in 2005 with 25k miles on it. I went shopping for a newer Tahoe but found the Escalade to be the same price. Fast forward to 2019 and I still own my Escalade and it has 189,000 miles on it. Yes the dash cover is cracked and my driver seat leather is torn but the SUV still runs great with no real issues. Over the years I have replaced some common things like the fuel pump, alternator, belts and hoses but I am very impressed with the durability of the 6.2L GM engine that I average 13.9 mpg on regular gas. I am going to have the leather repaired and keep rolling on! I would buy another if I needed.

I love my Cadillac Escalade, I purchased a 2003 over 10 years ago, it had one owner and was in meticulous condition. It has been and is an amazing reliable SUV, many road trips and very few issues. I have had the brakes changed a few times and just took it in for a full service because it hadn't had one since I purchased it. $1000 later and it is purring like a baby. Over 200K miles and still going strong, Escalade will always be my first choice. I know I got fortunate with this purchase, there will always be vehicles out there that are lemons or money pits, thankfully this was not the case with mine.

I have 2014 Chevy Silverado LTZ with 6.2L V8 & transmission had to be rebuilt before 90,000 miles. All in all we'd been out well over $10,000 if we hadn't purchased the 100,000 extended warranty. I can't count how many times we had to take it to dealership had the same #4 valve drop twice plus heated seats going out, electrical issues etc etc has been fixed. Never will buy a Chevy or GMC truck or any other model they sell. I'm sorry your mother in law had those issues so early. It just shows you how shitty Chevy's are nowadays.

Terrible terrible vehicle and something was always wrong. They are stylish and comfortable but 2 diff “rebuilds” 5 wheel bearings, many airbag module reprograms and transmission computer issues all before 100k. Not to mention the engine kept getting condensation in the values and causing the engine to run in reduced mode. A well taken care of Land Rover/Range Rover is a great car. My 2006 lr3 has over 160k on it and is frequently taken off-road. Still running strong with no major issues. The car has been a dream. On top of that it’s the easiest car to work on that I have ever owned, makes maintenance very easy. It’s very common for Land Rover owners to neglect their car and then blame the car when it breaks down

Tyler Pearson Well Land Rovers actually have very strong powertrains. It’s just the electricals that tend to get a bit wonky. It’s the case with most European cars. Strong powertrains but somewhat weak electrical systems. I’ve owned benzes and I’m on my 2nd consecutive BMW. No issues with the engines, just some weird electrical glitches. Nothing major tho.

Thats because morons never service the transmission and then when it hits the used dealers lot or someone is trying to sell it, they do a quick trans flush. NEVER do a trans flush on a GM transmission, it even says not to do it in the manual but if you do it on a high mileage GM you will probably lose the transmission. If you just drop the pan and change the fluid/filter you'll probably make it to 300k+ miles

Rarely washes it, and just daily drives it. It has over 250,000 miles on it and it still runs. We replaced the transmission once, and the alternator, water pump, and fuel pump a couple of times and that's about it. Did I mention he doesn't change the brakes until he gets tired of hearing the rotors grinding for over a month! This thing was treated like the vehicle it was based on, a pickup truck, its amazing it is still a survivor. The early escalades aren't bad at all.

"We replaced the transmission once, and the alternator, water pump, and fuel pump a couple of times and that's about it." When you replace the brake lines and the lower body falls off into the yard, you should have a nice vehicle after you run down all the sensors that failed. Just guessing you have SRS, ABS and a check engine lights on along with "service ride control" on because you put work truck shocks on it. Window motors, drivers side lock/window switch, failed heated mirrors, CD's stuck in the dash, rear wiper doesn't work, glove box rattles at any and every speed (even sometimes without moving, just getting in, it'll rattle). POS

That's more than I'd want to deal with. You should get 250000 trouble free miles out of a vehicle though. I've come to expect it with mine and I haven't had to replace an alternator, fuel pump, or transmission since I started buying Toyotas 16 years ago. One cracked radiator at 160k, and regular maintenance other than that, on 4 different vehicles. Knock on wood. If your dad really did all that, especially the constant towing over the limit, then that's held up pretty well I guess. Everyone I know that has a GM vehicle has replaced the fuel pump. I had a 1 ton work truck with an allison transmission that had to be replaced at 50k. It was supposed to be bullet proof. I had a ton of weight on it, but my previous truck had been an overloaded half ton that took 200k with no motor or tranny issues. The half ton felt like it was gonna roll every time I turned lol.

You can’t let GM fuel pumps negotiated low or they fail but escaleds have great engines that people use to make huge power
