Thanks for these great tips about how to sticking to a project timeline. I particularly appreciated you highlighting dependencies since this is a really important factor. People do tend to become very siloed in their work, forgetting about the bigger picture and about how other tasks/people depend on the completion of their task.

Thanks for your tips. Problem is I recently started a new job with projects already started. I did reset some times but since I’m new at the process, I missed some steps and then all of a sudden team members are like. “Oh! We also need to do this! “ adding another 2 - 3 weeks !!! Every other week something “pops up”! How do you fix that?

One of the first things you need to do is meet with the sponsor/PMO. It's also really important to review the project charter and plan. I have a video coming out at the end of the month that takes you through the steps to successfully take over a project. I also have a 45 min webinar that I think will benefit you. In this free training I walk you through the five key items needed on all projects, it's what I call the FAB FIVE FUNDAMENTALS OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT. The FAB FIVE are the 5 key items that you must do on every project - if you only do 5 things, these are them! It’s a great way to simplify projects, while still doing the essentials needed to ensure project success. Save your seat here: www.slayprojectmanagement.com/webinar Wishing you all the best. Cheers!

Great vid! 2 questions if you don't mind: 1) What would be the best way to stick to a project timeline where you're working with an Agile team? Do you have a vid on this? 2) Things constantly change with an Agile team as you know, so the standard waterfall approach doesn't work with most of the projects I manage. We have certain deliverables we have to accomplish in iterations, but sometimes, no matter how hard I push, there's no "target end date" the sponsor is giving. However, I will get asked what the timeline is or when things will be delivered. At this point, should I assume?

I agree with you regarding your second point. I have the same problem and I don’t feel confident giving a delivery date when we have unknown timeframes
