My first banking project failed due to delays just because the top management was scope creep and added new understandings in my project now and then and the project delayed and exposed me as a failed PM. but it was a lesson learned for me.

project management, the life cycle is segmented into five main phases. Inception defines the purpose of the project and obtains permission. Planning creates a comprehensive plan of action that includes detailed tasks, schedules, and resources. Implementation executes the plan, manages resources, and completes tasks. Monitoring and control monitors progress, analyzes variance and implements corrective actions. Finally, the closing phase means the formal completion of the project, the delivery of the product, the preparation of estimates and the filing of documents. Each step ensures efficient progress, effective management of resources and successful project outcomes.

Loved the video. This is awesome for time management skills, too. So I remember watching lectures about management in university long ago. First, you have delivered projects vs. pending projects. Just like you said, every project has a life cycle, meaning even the delivered stuff still requires monitoring. The pending projects/tasks will require priotisation based on difficulty, time, and other unknown factors. University lectures recommend engaging the easier projects first. Why? because the process and completion of the easier projects will become a force multiplier. You will gain better experience and foresight into things, and pick up information/skills will aid in tackling the more difficult tasks. However, the more difficult/risky project will not be forgotten, and they will also be priotised and tackled in due time, but not in a way which will affect project and or team integrity, which is key. So what is the definition of difficulty? It usually means tools, time, and information that are available to you. Thanks for the video, it reminded of my old Uni days.

Hi Adriana! I am new to the PM world and your videos have been so helpful in preparing me for my new job! Scope creep was very interesting to me. I would love to hear more about navigating conversations when Execs want to add things or change things. Personally, I have a hard time saying "no" and would love some tools on how to keep the Execs and other stakeholders on track.

This is such a great, simple and clear overview that anyone involved in projects should be familiar with. One question I have is how common is it for project managers to include the required time for end-user adoption in the development of the project scope, budget and schedule? I'm finding that when I get involved and try to incorporate change management activities and deliverables into an existing project plan, insufficient time and resources have been allocated to enable these elements of project success and there is resistance to updating the project plan since it has already been approved. How do we get PMOs and project managers to think more strategically about these elements of project implementation and value delivery before it's too late?

Hi there! Here is my view point. I would prefer to include Service Management as one of an element as part of Project Management Plan in the initial stage itself. Logically, the Change & Release Management is part of Service Management and without Change and Release, the project can't be implemented, these two processes are core and integral part of PM. Hope I'm making sense here and it answered your concern:)

Agree, Project Charter/Project Brief is the most important project document. So many projects fail because people move straight to PMP/Project Plan........and so many people think a project schedule is a Project Plan. Also, when will Microsoft Project implement WBS diagram capability, as people visually find it easier to understand.

7:00 Scope Creep section: You really should do a breakdown of this. Many times a project manager does not have the leverage or authority to tell a stakeholder not to make these changes. It's really not as easy as "don't let that happen", often those people are paying you or funding the project. As a seasoned project manager it would be helpful for you to provide tips on how to navigate and deal with these situations when they arise. Many times you cannot just say "I'm not doing that" or "that's not in the project charter." We would appreciate real strategies on how to handle these challenges.
