    I don't remember where I read this, but Vader apparently hated Ozzel because of how he rose through the ranks by virtue of his family connections and so forth. This was also why he was more forgiving of Piett, who had risen through the ranks by his competence rather than who he knew.

    Weirdly enough I've always thought Palpatine should've kept Dooku alive, not as an apprentice since obviously Anakin was destined for that spot, but as an administrator, commander or something else, after all Dooku was a man of many talents outside the force and lightsaber combat, plus his continually advancing age would ensure he wasn't much of a threat at time went on. In fact that was the lie Palpatine told Dooku, that it would be the three of them, Palps, Dooku and Anakin ruling the empire. I dunno, just seems kind of a waste of talent, though I suppose Anakin killing Dooku was his introductory dark side test. Eh, perhaps I'm underestimating Palpi's paranoia as he liekly thought Dooku would betray him later.

    @@Haloguy3959 It’s an interesting point. War is merely a continuation of politics by other means, adhering to von Clausewitz, but Thrawn was never put in a time of peace to lead. Being as analytical and intelligent as he was, though, I don’t find it difficult to believe he could have led a revived Empire with enough deftness to build a lasting position. If nothing else, his iron grip on power and unparalleled ability to multitask and play the long game (with Palpatine as the only competition in that regard) would ensure his limited political skills would not come up as often as they otherwise would. After all, you don’t need to be capable of handling political infighting if all of your potential rivals are either obedient, fearful, or dead.

    Palpatine has greater grasp on future goals, putting unrelated pieces together. Tarkin's human supremacy is a tactically exploitable weakness because he's choosing ignorance and he's not very nuanced with his political appearance. Fine as a Sith trait but considering Damask was a Muun and the entire grand plan involved working with many different species and being a two-faced bastard i think Palpatine is the superior choice.

    It's maul, just maul. As for Dooku, nobody knew him as a sith, or at least nobody besides the Jedi cared because the rest of the galaxy saw the sith and jedi as warrior monks and did not know much beyond that. Count Dooku was a politician 1st, Sith 2nd. He never let the dark side consume him and used it as a tool. He is more of a "gray jedi" imo.

  • @vexi_7

    @vexi_7

    Жыл бұрын

    @@_NekOzSadly not correct here. Dooku embraced the less sadistic parts of a sith like Palpatine did but remember he was only an apprentice. He was consumed by the idea of ruling the galaxy by Palpatines side and wanted greater power. He used force lightning which required a user to tap into the dark side, he did not have this ability as a jedi and needed to tap into the dark side to do so. Dooku would also murder tons of jedi during the Clone Wars such as Yaddle and Sifo Dyas. Dooku also stole a lot from his own people and CIS systems as highlighted in Episode 3 of the bad batch. A grey jedi would be someone like Ashoka Tano, Quinlan Vos or even Qui Gon Jinn one could argue. All three disagreed with the ideals and principles of the Jedi but still viewed the dark side as a greater evil. Ashoka Tano is an excellent example as she used her abilities for good, still used her emotions despite the jedis interesting view on that but did not consider herself a jedi as she was vested in revenge against Vader. Quinlan is a great example of another grey jedi as his beliefs and the way he acted went against the jedi code and jedi etiquette! He used the dark side but ultimately returned to balance when saved by Ventress. Qui Gon Jin a man who found the jedi to be crippling themselves and was sick of the Senate took a neutral approach to the Force which served him well as he went on to teach Obi Wan and Yoda how to become force ghosts. Overall I can see why you think Dooku could be considered a grey jedi but as soon as he fell under the apprenticeship o Sidious any idea of neutrality was gone. He was a brilliant character but a terrible person to his own people, the jedi and ultimately was happy to betray Sidious and rule the galaxy.

    @@vexi_7 I saw episode 3 of the bad batch as excessive taxation of Serrano & other CIS planets more than theft. As in Civil forfeiture or armies foraging in conquered territory. Legal. Theft is illegal. Dooku was the law on Serrano. He didn't steal squat. Dooku believed that the ends justified the means. Sure he'd take everything from a family on Serrano, leaving them to starve. It's legal taxation, the planet is in a war for freedom! Sacrifices must be made! The new order will right all the wrongs and be worth all the blood. Can be morally wrong and still not be theft. The rebels in the OG trilogy are terr0wrists and lawbreakers of the most extreme measure. TLDR Theft is unlawful taking. Dooku was the law on Serrano. Therefore he did not steal. Darth Sidious was the closest thing Anakin had to a true father in Anakin’s eyes. Colonel Wolf Yularen was a huge success story in the clone wars, and a bigger success in the ISB. I believe the colonel truly believed he was doing the right thing in his mind for “the republic.“ That was now the Galactic Empire. I just don’t know if the kernel was truly aware the damage she was causing to people in the galaxy or not. It’s like it’s two different people. The admiral versus the colonel. They have similarities, but one is more cool than the other and I’ve always wondered. Did he actually recognize it himself that he was being that harsh on the citizens of the galaxy. I would like Star Wars to flush out more of his story from the clone wars to the ISB. In the show rebels, he is portrayed as a wise man that just wants to protect the galaxy from the rebels.

    Thrawn is a bit of a grey area in this list as although he was trusted by Sidious, would never had said that he was really mentored by Sidious in any meaningful way. as by time he joins the empire was already a talented tactician and military genius without equal/ Would have been better off swapping him out for Gallus Re4x.

    Vader also, unlike Palpatine, had on many MANY occasions led and commanded troops in combat. And so likely saw through Ozzel even before his massive blunder at Hoth. Palpatine could have been misled about his abilities, or even purposely allowed the idiot an admiralty because making people miserable amuses him. Vader, on the other hand, has zero time for it. Addendum: GT is absolutely correct about the birth sidearm we receive upon being discharged from the hospital/armory with our birth mothers here in the states.

    Sly Moore Kinman Dorian Sate Pestage Wulf Yularen and his Chagrin Vizier were the 5 he trusted most because he knew all their power came from him and betrayal of any sort was instant death. Vader was never trusted because he was a Sith and Tarkin was never trusted because if he turned he had the knowledge, wealth and connections to cripple his Empire.

    Been thinking about Tarkin, perhaps the idea of fear isn't that stupid but the implementation was and of course authoritarian/closed/military government/economy. You kind of remake the clone war situation again where rebels are portrayed the bad guys (like they were made). So you try to encourage most of people to achieve the best to protect each other. The imperial system was like Soviet Union not the Chinese version (early and before 2000) that tried to use good parts of economy and dictatorship. Create fear so most/best/wealthiest (inworlds) unite.
