The REAL Purpose of the Jedi Order

Ойын-сауық

We're told that the Jedi Order are guardians of the republic, we're told that they alone can hold back darkside of the force. But how many times have the Jedi betrayed the republic, how many Jedi have embraced dark side? We take a closer look at the real purpose of this monastic order of force users, and uncover what they are really about.

By the time of Ahsoka’s trial, the Jedi Order had strayed away from the light side. But this whole video is a case study in why the Jedi Order shouldn’t’ve officially joined the republic. They should’ve stayed on their own and kept their mission as “helping people who need help” as opposed to “be the long arm of Republic law”.

But do you understand why the Jedi became the Republic's peace keepers at the becking call of the Senate? The Ruusan Reformation. after centuries of what to the none force users looked like a Civil War, the Jedi had seemingly won against the Sith and destroyed them. The people of the Republic were scared of even the Jedi, because at this time they held power. They held military ranks, owned fleets and armies. They held political power in the Senate, and then they could use the Force on top of all of this. The Jedi of this time realized that in order to build trust with the Republic, and the people of the Republic. The Jedi Order needed to rebrand itself. No longer were they a military order. So they disbanded their fleets and armies. No longer were they warriors, and soldiers, so they did away with the armor that they had worn off and on for centuries. The Jedi needed to return to what they were originally created for, while aiding the Republic. With seemingly no enemies to fight against the Republic didn't need such a huge force of arms, so they all but disbanded all of their forces, and asked the Jedi to become their peacekeepers. You could make a case, that the Jedi shouldn't of Joined the Republic, but then again. What if they had not? Returned to say Tython, and lived there out and away from the Republic, helping those they chose to, and not adding when the Republic asked, because of whatever reason. How long before all that anger, hate, and mistrust from the previous centuries of war that the Jedi had brought upon the Republic sparked a movement that maybe finally wins majority power in the Senate, or the Chancellorship. Then that is turned against the Jedi? Peace talks fail because the Republic leaders either sabotage the meetings or just simply don't want to hear it. Then the Jedi have to defend themselves, or submit to internment. I imagine there would be some that do submit hoping that logic and cooler heads will prevail. meanwhile there will be some that don't and end up splitting off from those that do. then something happens, and either the separatist Jedi kill someone, or they are framed. Meaning they have to defend themselves, and someone else dies. this only escalates the situation with the Republic, but in doing so the Chancellor or Senate has created another Civil War either knowingly or unwittingly. And all of this What if doesn't even include what Bane could of been doing as well.

Ahsoka’s trial was a sham, shame on the Jedi Council 😡. I don’t blame Anakin for distrusting the Council. The Jedi had really lost their way, they had become too dogmatic, arrogant, too detached, and too subservient to a corrupt Republic. The Jedi weren’t infallible, they were never perfect. Whereas in Luke’s new Jedi Order (Legends) the Jedi spend most of their time among the masses and build compassion and trust.

It's interesting that when the Jedi, specifically the Prequel era, are seemingly at their strictest, yet they are at their most vulnerable. We see from High Republic and Old Republic the ancient Jedi were much more lenient

I refuse to believe that the Jedi were vulnerable. I prefer to think that the Sith were just that powerful in the Prequel times. That Palpatine, and Darth Plagueis had clouded the Jedi's Vision so much that they could not see the Sith. I realize it comes around almost to the exact same spot, but it feels better to look upon it as this. Before the Rule of two, the Jedi and the Sith were pulling anyone into their armies even if they barely had any force attunement to begin with. Better with you, than with the other side mentality. Problem is this diluted the Force on both sides, but in particularly the Dark Side. The Sith were weakening themselves with "The Strongest rules." while fighting against the Jedi and the Army of the Light. So when Bane Tricked them all and had Kaan use the Thought bomb. That was the greatest military maneuver, and show of cunning that the galaxy had even seen, and would never know about. The Rule of Two made the Sith not only smarter, but more powerful when the majority of the Dark Side's power was now consolidated into 2 people. Meanwhile, the Jedi as much as I hate to admit it, did grow stagnate. after 1000 years of peace. Jedi no longer having to fight in battle after battle. They were peace officers, not soldiers. Philosophers and Mediators, not Generals, and Politicians. However, a 1000 years without any significant war if you can wrap your mind around that would make you think that the Sith are dead, and could not return without you knowing.

You have great innate power, you go to a religiously based organisation when young to work out how to control it, but people still look at you weirdly. Your points are very interesting and thought provoking. Your point about the Jedi Temple not having any Dark Side materials, nor discussing the Dark Side is very curious indeed. I'm taking your word for it as I respect your in depth scholarship on the topic. This lack of material and discussion is, as the Jedi Council would put it, troubling. Troubling, not because the Jedi order doesn't have the training to recognize a Sith or other Dark Side user, but because of the root cause of the lack of material: Fear. The Jedi so fear the Dark Side, that they sow the seeds of their own destruction by avoiding the topic so thoroughly. For an order that is so mindful and consciously aware of their emotions (thus able to control their reactions to them, not eradicating them as is so commonly proposed), it's kind of amazing that they have so buried themselves under thousands of years of tradition that Master Yoda probably isn't aware of the underlying fear of that omission. And fear, perhaps chief among the Dark emotions is, as Palpatine is well aware, inSidious.

its actually a notion in philosophy. the notion that by going to the alternate extreme of something you fear/hate you simply reduce your ability to actually deal with the problem. for instance people who grew up in very strict households often have issues with self control with alcohol/sex in their adult lives because they never learned how to moderate such behaviors and were only taught to avoid it, which obviously doesn't work. (how many 'just say no' campaigns have accomplished absolutely nothing) the jedi certainly fit this category. fearing the with so much they don't even want to mention it or admit it exists, which leaves them unable to actually keep their stability in the force. leading to baris and dooku's fall from grace as since they can't deal with frustrations, rebellion, or anger in a healthy way, they look to unhealthy avenues.

@@sovietunion7643 that's a bit deterministic and old psychology and sociology approaches. Reality is much more complex, is not simple social conditioning or societies and status quo would never change at any level. True jedi philosophy does not search power for power and they were no rulers of the galaxy. Like in star wars, that lure is of the 1% that really "control" the world; and corporations were run by regular individuals of different species, those are the 1% of the star wars universe. For most time Sith and Jedi must be obviously seen as privileged, but not as the ones that have the galaxy on their palms. You forget the power of a unique outer rim clan, the Hutts, which de facto had much more power ruling than mostly jedi or sith - and the Hutts to, contrary to jedi, searched power and profit as the dominant 1% also did, just like here on earth but with no force users.

Any sort of oppression would only make the first group to be willing to work with force users a massive advantage. That’s why the Sith just kept coming back their was just to much to be gained by working with them even if in a unfair relationship. Granted their oppression made them vulnerable as they didn’t work with to many, why they kept getting destroyed. Ultimately a Jedi order, a group that can work with to the benefit of the society, would be the most stable out come. The Jedi survived for a 1000 generations before they fell, and it took a lot of work and effort to do that.

Eh. A lot of it was sith doing. Sidious and Plageus had ties to many banks, corporations, and finances and had been manipulating things. Subtly. The Jedi were blinded true, but the Republic and the Jedi made a deal. The Jedi would act as guardians and soldiers for the republic in exchange for these rules and benefits. It was mainly the Jedi who organized the Republic against the Sith invasions and threats. I think the Jedi were too cautious. They accepted their role as generals too easily. They should have been speaking out against the war and trying to establish more officer corps in the military and should have been trying to get away from the republic. Move resources to another world.

The specific clip I'm curious about is at the 7:14 mark of the video -- it's art style (almost live-action looking, and all that weird coloration on the edges) is very different to other Star Wars media I've seen. Is it perhaps a fan-made short film? I'm also going to assume that the clip from 6:20 was not from Star Wars, as the vibe is off from all major SW factions I know of. Still cool, and I get why you used it -- the Empire was very thorough in capturing, deleting, and destroying any video evidence of its horrific prisons. Then again, so did the Republic, Rebellion, and New Republic, for all we know. Or maybe there is plenty of documentation, it just doesn't make money to make a holonet series depicting various atrocities as they are instead of propaganda. (Light sarcasm warning)

It seems like a very Sith idea: take your enemies greatest fear and spring it on them suddenly and out of nowhere, shattering their confidence and leaving them vulnerable and off-balance. Maybe Sidious knew that, deep down, this was the one fear that the Jedi could never truly shake -- and thus the one most likely to undermine them, should it come to pass.

the jedi don't really show this balance though, at least not by the time we see them in the prequels. they don't allow any knowledge of the dark side or allow people to form attachments in fear of them getting too passionate. that is extremely focusing only on the light side, which causes an opposite reraction. if people have no healthy way to deal with frustrations, emotions, or otherwise, they will find unhealthy venues. we can see this is dooku's fall from grace. dooku was hardly ever a perfect jedi, but had he been able to get proper counciling and better ways to deal with his problems perhaps he could have stayed with the jedi. pushing someone too far into the "light" side of things just makes it so that when they actually face problems mentally or emotionally, they don't know how to deal with it and often react in a very bad way.

You mention the light and the dark. That is assuming if it is there. There is only the force. Many consider the dark side not another side, but an entire perversion of the force itself. Also, wasn't there around 10,000 jedi knights around the time of the end of the republic. When the Jedi were probably the biggest due to lack of conflict brining their numbers down. There were probably more force sensitives like the dathomiirans, and other people who escape the republics medical system and got too old. But, then with padawans there were only around maybe 15,000 members of the jedi order. Compared to a galaxy filled with hundreds of trillions of beings, that puts the jedi at an incredibly small minority. They have always worked with the republic and other governments. As their origins were never in the realm of governing or controlling. They were originally an order of mystics to control the strong force on strong force planets. It was only when the dark jedi, sith, and various other hostile governments arrive did the Jedi join with the republic.

It's funny because sith and jedi is what kind of Jordan Peterson is talking about, leaders or at least the ones at the top of dominance hierarchies, the jedi being the peacekeepers of the troop (literally like in chimps) stay to be leaders for they also take care of the troop but the big meanie chimps are the sith, as some say that those chimps get literally torn apart later on. And that slave tactics of the sith is very prevalent in the empire's use of the death star, much like what the slaver empire did in s4 of clone wars... like a hostage tactic, the more they resist the more they'll be the demise of the ones they care about the most. It's just sad what happened to all of them. Many literature often portrays those in religious organizations as mediators not just as to the divine and mortals but among mortals. The jedi was like the vatican that also operates like the CIA. Entering the Republic is just a hard choice, because then they could intervene in the disturbances they feel specially death? so not entering will also just make them an outsider whilst tormenting them.

I think it was little off the mark when you're saying the Jedi can use the Force because of their DNA and that they are mutants. The Jedi aren't any different biologically than any other member of their particular species. They have high midichlorian counts, which basically just means they have more antennae to communicate with the Force. Everyone has them, they just have enough to let them use the Force. The other minor nitpick, which could be current Disney EU BS IDK, is that the Jedi didn't teach about the Dark Side or Sith. I don't know where that came from, but the Jedi temple had many Sith holocrons, texts, etc. locked up both for study by Jedi Masters and to keep it away from anyone who shouldn't be using them (including Jedi who aren't prepared).

There is no "almost" holy. As originally envisioned and written, the Jedi and Sith were members of opposing religions. "You are all that is left of that religion," said Tarkin to Vader. Han Solo also referred to it as a "hokey religion." There are numerous other references, and in the real world at that time, the modern secular/anti-religious viewpoint was not yet a thing. They weren't playing at religion for the sake of the masses, they were in fact members of the most powerful religious orders in Galactic history.
