Despite caring for the clones and humanizing them, Yoda didn't hesitate to murk the same clones he'd served with the entire war. It's interesting really. A lot of the Jedi seemed to die because they hesitated to attack their own troops. It'd be interesting to do a video on how different Jedi survived or didn't based on their personalities.

Yoda had the fortune of sensing hundreds of Jedi die right before his execution. He felt their shock, their FEAR and as their lives were snuffed he was quick to come into the one possible conclusion, that being betrayal. Mind you, we can see in Episode 3 that most Jedi were aware by the sudden change in state their Clones had entered. Problem was it was too fast and too immeadiate for them to formulate a proper response.

Well. The Jedi and clones were mostly pure professional acquaintances than close friends in the EU. TCW and the new Canon in general just turned them into close friends.

When you think about it, the Jedi are Yoda’s family. One can argue that they’re like his grandkids with how he’s been a part of all of their lives since they were brought into the order as baby’s. Having helped raise them into who they are now. He he just sensed hundreds of them get killed by Clone Troopers all of a sudden, nearly at once

Because the Jedi wouldn't think twice about killing droids, whereas they can grow attachments to fellow organics despite their code, and their code even calls them to be sympathetic to living organic beings. So for them to cut down their own clones without hesitation is almost a betrayal of their beliefs, like how Pong Krell secretly renounced the Jedi way long before he betrayed the 501st and 212th on Umbara.

And yet the wider population of the Republic/Empire could be easily convinced that the clones were not "real people" and thus depriving them of citizenship rights, retirement pensions, and post-war healthcare would be easy to sell. Yet being human-looking, DURING the war the populace can be influenced to see the clones as "the good guys" as opposed to "just another batch of machines". But if the Republic were to have used droids, that could have given independence-minded worlds the idea that they could also get a big order of combat droids to give them leverage against a central government. Either method, clone or droid, makes war more 'palatable' to the populace, as they were not being conscripted or asked to volunteer in massive numbers. Palpatine wins by not having a huge number of former soldiers in the populace having combat skills.

I never thought about the Jedi seeing the clones as impressionable 9-10 yr olds. That just broke my heart even more.

Palpatine must've watched Terminator.

In EU Legends, the Clones are taught about Order 66 when being literally raised as soldiers of the Republic. And when Order 66 is sent out, the Clones made a choice between willingly carrying it out as taught to them... or defy it and save the Jedi they bonded and fought alongside with.

I think I prefer the canon version. Even if you were taught about it you wouldn’t betray the people who have raised you, fought and suffered beside you and protected you for 3 years. No real human could do that.

@@para_magnus2200 Or at the very least you can imagine it wouldn't be as reliable, this means in Legends that the clones would still no matter what have to mostly be completly obediant. This makes it sad that they mostly CHOSE to execute their Jedi, but it kind of kills the idea that they're better then droids. But the chips make the Clones tragic in the fact that it FORCES them to execute the order. Because we see them build individuality and it's sad to see that suppressed by the chip and them becone more droid like. Each has an advantage and disadvantage. No chip: THey're more obediant and soldier minded, yet this means they can be considered the bad guys if Order 66 was completly a choice. Means thier individuality is more on a person by person basis, and since most clones executed the order, clearly only a small number of Clones individualized enough to resist the order. With chip: Allows to be more individualistic and form actual bonds with the Jedi, thus when the order is triggered it's actually tragic as they have no choice, shown brilliantly with Rex when we could see him struggle to resist the chip only long enough to tell Ahsoka to find Fives, then Rex was drone like in hunting her, but back to normal when the chip was removed, thus the Clones are more like victims just as much as the Jedi or any civilian killed in the war, more so even since they were born for this purpose and soon discarded for Stormtroopers.

⁠@@TheZamaron THIS! This is precisely why I prefer Canon Order 66 to Legends. Making the Clones kill the Jedi against their will is more tragic than them doing it willingly. Like you said, doing it of their own choosing just makes them no different than Battle Droids and cements them as programmed soldiers. With the chips, it makes the betrayal more tragic as it eliminates the individuality the Clones gained during the war and turns them into organic droids with no say in their actions. Maybe there are some Clones who would’ve executed Order 66 even without the chips, but given the bonds they developed with their Jedi leaders, it makes no sense for Palpatine to leave this to chance as opposed to guaranteeing that they follow the Order.

In Legends: The average grunt clone was designed with less free will and more conformity in mind. It was the ARC Troopers & Republic Commandos that were given more free will due to the fact that they were given elite missions to go on. And this maybe unpopular, but I prefer the EU over New Canon where the Clones know about Order 66. I’m reminded of the original Battlefront 2 where the clones in that game know what’s coming. Good soldiers truly follow orders, also not every Jedi in legends was an Anakin or Plo Koon. Most were inexperienced and just used wave tactics throwing the clones lives away.

Palpatine did hijack Sifo Dyas' plan of using the Clone Army as the Republic's defender and had Dooku act as liaison with Kamino to ensure they follow his instructions of implanting chips on all Clones.

"The care the Jedi show for their troops, is a weakness." "A weakness... we shall continue to exploit."

The big thing imo is trust. The trust between a commander and his troops can be the perfect trap for the commander if his troops were ordered to gun him down. Palpatine knew that the Jedi who were already very complacent would grow to trust the clones until the were filled with blaster holes.

Palpatine really was a master manipulator. He was able to convince the Jedi that he was their ally by causing chaos through all of his proxies and clouding their senses .

The Jedi's did encourage the Clones to have names to stand-out more. And be their own person.

In the end they were both pawns of the Sith. You left out Rahm Kota in the list of Jedi who hated clones.

The veteran clone trooper was also victims of order 66 The chip basically forced their personality in factory default. Making sit in the back of thier subconscious like a backseat of a car. None of them would have actually WANTED to do it. Save for a few clone battalions that didnt like their jedi which was rare. The least affected by the chip were the shiny's new clones that knew very little

If you think about it, Rex, Ahsoka, Anakin and Padme are like a big family.

I am still impresed on how such a massive scale plan work so perfecly

When I binged Clone Wars for the first time, I started with that Yoda and Clones story arc, rather than the movie. It really does set up the tragedy of the Clones, even way back at the beginning. Many props to Dave Filoni for that.

This makes me wonder what would happen in world without Order 66. The Jedi would obviously be working to ensure the Clones had a new purpose after the war and maybe even freedom. I could even see them being worked into the order somehow.

The problem is that without the sith grand plan which eventually resulted in order 66 the clone wars wouldn't have happened in the first place and none of them would have been bread.

Generation Tech is my favorite channel next to Invicta. I love everything Star Wars, it was the first PC game I ever played (X-Wing) and kept me in love with computers to this day, building and upgrading them. Generation Tech always bring fantastic scenes and great commentary from Allan. I'll forever be looking at this channel, especially with COVID giving me the opportunity to read every one of the legends novels in order.

For all the reasons to use a clone army (there are many, and they are good)... there was still no real reason not to use them as the elite vanguard of a republic Droid army. Palpatine could easily have commissioned enough combat droids to hide the suspicious numbers without affecting the clone's effectiveness... make the droids poor/cheap enough and you can still drag the war out as long as you need.

Growing up with the Clone Wars TV Show and the Prequel Trilogy made Order 66 that more heartbreaking. I honestly believe that Order 66 is one the most tragic events to happen in all of Sci-Fi.

I think that was a master stroke of manipulation from Palpatine; the Jedi who were too callous that they didn’t treat the clones as people would be propaganda victories for Sidious and the ones who bonded with their clone troops would be blindsided by Order 66 when it occurred.

Going to combat together, forges a unique brotherhood. There were many soldiers in the first Iraq war that committed fratricide and had to deal with the psychological consequences afterwards. The thing I love about generation tech is that you can always see real life parallels to Star Wars.

Considering how manupulative Palpatine is, what will be his plan in order to gain a seat on the Dark Council if he was born during the time when both the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire coexisted with one another? He can forget about becoming the Emperor because there is no heck way he can beat Darth Vitiate.

I love that first episode of the clone wars with Yoda

1 plus is they would show the Jedi they r extremely loyal over the years hardly any defected or betrayed the republic. A negative though is how the Jedi could sense in the force right before the clones attacked that something was off about them so if it was a really good/lucky Jedi that warning might be enough to save their life.

I thinks it's really cool and sad that yoda gave those clones lessons only to be used against the jedi in the future

For their service to the Republic, and heroism in defending it, each would gain citizenship. To avoid the overpopulation of any given system, it would be incentivised to move to lower population mid and outer rim planets. Clones could be offered jobs on those worlds in positions that play to their strengths to help foster growth and security.

Enlisting them on training programs for non-clone soldiers or planetary defense forces could be an option. Being extremely good veterans of war, I imagine the Clones would feel quite at home teaching new recruits and passing on their knowledge and experience. Alternatively, Clones could've been employed or hired for security jobs or even peace keeping jobs. Helping maintain stability on the planets they gave their lives protecting, while also lending a hand and contributing to teconstruction efforts and just helping the local communities. I imagine the Clones could've had a lot to learn and gain from these social interactions. Then, as they developed new ideas and new wants, the Clones could even go and apply for a different job and lifestyle that they might've taken a liking to. Maybe a certain Clone decided to be a freighter pilot, while another chose to become a civilian doctor. Or maybe one just wanted to enjoy a calm new life as a farmer. And those individuals who chose to keep the same jobs of soldiers that they were so used to, well, they could keep it! Of course, all of this means that each and every single Clone would be given the right of citizenship, for their service to the Republic. And as citizens, they should also be allowed the same retirement rights as any other citizen of the Republic. This is probably by a wide margin THE most optimistic scenario I could imagine, but I don't think it would've been impossible. Sure, there were a lot of douches with prejudice towards them, but good intentioned Senators like Chuchi, Bail Organa and Padmé (alive in this scenario) would've earned the hearts of the majority into sympathizing with the Clones' situation. Really, the only real threat to all this would've been Palpatine and his expert oratory skills, twisting things and situations to work _against_ the Clones but just enough to still *sound and seem* reasonable and just to the rest of the Senate. Take him out of the picture, as we are in this hypothetical scenario, and I feel the future for the Clones is looking very promising!

Spread them out throughout the galaxy and have them train and advise indigenous defence forces (such as bolstering Naboo Royal security forces, transforming twi lek native resistance into a real military force etc) in order to prevent another Trade Federation invasion scenario causing future instability in the Republic. Also could deploy them alongside Jedi during peacetime missions

There is a fic I am following (got a new chapter last weak), where a time-travelling Obi-Wan (soul-displacement time travel, where he wakes up in his younger body, in the past) goes to Kamino earlier, intending to save the clones, and that fic had a bit where Obi-Wan thinks the Clones were the perfect trap for the Jedi. Clones are living people, with souls and Force presences, that are raised to idolise the Jedi and view them as their leaders. That sort of indoctrination leads to the strong Jedi-Clone relationships. Every fanfic I read about the Clones is usually about strong bonds of friendship between various Clones and Jedi - Obi-Wan and Cody, Rex and Ahsoka, and Anakin, Bly and Aayla, Stance and Caleb, Ponds and Mace - those are some I have seen mentioned to one extent or another in fics. CodyWan and RexSoka are common feature ships in fic, and Aayla/Bly is basically treated as a given background ship as well. The couple fo fics recently that have made mention of Stance and Caleb treat Stance as a protective guardian to his Padawan Commander, and usually Ponds is shown as being a trusted Second to Windu, though I did read a time-travel fic where a nervous Ponds outright flirted with a young Windu.

Never forget the unnatural spite that the common Bottle Nose Doplhine has for their non-aquatic mammelian brethern.

And that is what makes the prequals so good... the tragedy of it all.

I’ve been rereading Darth Plagueis. When I got to this part of the novel I realized the evil genius of the sith.

I’m arguing with a friend about the dolphin threat. The fact that you have freshwater dolphins proves that they are acclimating themselves to moving onto land next! Please explain the threat again.

There were many examples in literature from Star Wars where the clone troopers felt uneasy when the Jedi talked about the Force as it was this strange mythical "thing" that they couldn't protect themselves from, fully understand, or use themselves. At times, it made them very wary about the Jedi and was seen as a big difference between them. Many of the Jedi also had severe reservations about the troopers saying statements such as, "for the republic," as the Jedi knew the troopers would kill anyone or anything that the galactic senate deemed an enemy or threat to the Republic regardless of circumstance, including children if the need should have arose. The Jedi may have had concerns about using a living army as their soldiers, but did so anyway for convenience sake, not the clones cared about that aspect in the beginning of the war as that was perfectly fine to them given their upbringing. Both sides had their differences, and yes, for the most they worked well together, but in quiet moments, some harbored deep reservations towards the other group.

I am think the reason for clones and droids is that Palestine’s main dilemma was trying to draw the mostly pacifist Jedi order into a war without showing yourself as a sith (because the sith are one of the few reasons for the Jedi to lead the republic in battle.) So he uses a droid army so the Jedi don’t have to do any actual killing And uses clones , while still undeniably being life and beings the Jedi care about, their use as an army is a lot more grey than having Jedi lead an army of republic citizens. Remember the whole point was to get the Jedi blamed for the war so the populace would be ok with the purge happening. So they use an army the Jedi created and an enemy the Jedi are ok with fighting And I want to add that palpating probably wanted to keep the elite clone trooper force that had literal mind control chips but just the influence Jedi tend to have on the clones it turned much of them from mindless clones to individuals who could sometimes even shake off the mind control

As well as the Clones, certain loyal planets to the Republic had militias. In the longer term picture, these militias, would play a part in the Clone Wars.

And we will never know how many Jedi sacrificed themselves during the Clone War to protect the Clones as they saw them as human beings, as kids. And the alternative, seeing the Clones as nothing else but biological machines could make a Jedi drift towards the dark side as they ignore the human suffering of the clones. To sacrifice them in battle. That alone weakened the Jedi before Order 66 went out. It was a masterful trap. And we've seen in Bad Batch how easily Palpatine started the public backlash against the Clones.

This video just put a question in my mind: As to what is generally understood, very few individuals knew the truth about Order 66. For the most part, the galaxy at large was made to believe that the Jedi were traitors against the Galactic Republic, and of course during the reign of the Empire, the Jedi were labeled and hunted down as criminals. The question that came to mind is did the New Republic ever overturn this perception of the Jedi in any way? I mean, sure Luke Skywalker emerged as a hero of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, but he could've still been perceived as nothing more than an assassin of Emperor Palpatine and perhaps even of Lord Vader. Also, during the aftermath of the Galactic Civil War, in particular the time-period of "The Mandalorian," the Jedi are, it seems, still very much in hiding.

Before Disney, the Jedi Council may or may not have known about a version of Order 66 that was meant for if a single Jedi General went rogue... for instance, if Rex had been able to contact Obi-Wan (or any offworld Jedi for that matter) and tell them about Pong Krell during the Umbara arc, and the Council knew all the Orders, the Council could have declared "Contingency 66 is now in effect against General Pong Krell. Try to bring him in alive if possible, but do not let him escape under any circumstances" . If a "dead or alive" version of Order 66 was known to the Council, they certainly didn't know that Palpatine would use it against the whole Order at once, and ignore the "or alive" part, because they didn't know he was Sidious until it was too late... and they either didn't know about Order 65 or they didn't expect expect it to work... and we know how that turned out

@@ZoeMalDoran I wonder if they'll address this issue in the upcoming "Ahsoka" series? Because you are correct about what might have been if actions could be taken with that knowledge of the implants. That being the case, some of the survivors of the Clone Wars, Order 66, and the Galactic Civil War, who did learn of the truth of the implants, could make efforts to clear the Jedi of the implicated crimes of treason, Ahsoka being one of those who did learn the truth and obviously survived all of those devastating events. I imagine, however, it would be quite difficult for a lone, former-Jedi to convince the galaxy of the truth of Order 66.

Some dude at the bottom of the comments list said that in Thrawn Alliances, Padme thinks that Anakin has money, Is that true? How would he get money, unless he was plundering battlefields. On that note, there are thousands of senators, who pays them? and how do federal taxes work in Star Wars? does each planet pay a certain amount to stay in the republic, like a membership fee? And are the senate buildings built by the Coruscant government or the republic? What is the separation between Coruscant and the Republic, is Coruscant like the District of Columbia but much bigger. Overall I think you should do a video about the ins and outs of how the republic functions, the stuff beyond what we see in the movies, about elections, salaries, and representation. That would be cool.

It wasn’t 100% the Jedi’s decision to have their Padawans join them in battle. Like the Jedi’s involvement in the war as a whole, they were pretty much left with two bad choices that don’t go well for them: either join the war they don’t necessarily think they should be a part of as it’s technically against their beliefs to serve as weapons of the Republic rather than peace keepers, or don’t join and face public scrutiny for not working to end a war THEY failed to prevent. When it came to the Padawans, Palpatine himself pushed the Jedi to have their Padawans join in the war effort as a means of gaining “experience”. The Jedi were arrogant by the Clone Wars Era, but they certainly weren’t arrogant enough to all believe that this whole war was right and that they were the good guys, especially as the war continued and it began to weigh down on them

I'm sorry but padawans that were taken to battle were usually 14 years or older... thats an age where historically people joined militaries in the first place. Yes by modern standards its child soldiers, but in a galaxy where those standards were never really developed like star wars and you still have things like nine year olds flying in pod racing, military academies that have 12 year olds as their cadets and such, this kind of thing was probably considered completely normal. Additionally its kind of easy to think yourself as the good guy when your enemy is intentionally targeting civilians and developing chemical weapons that target civilians to use on planets that haven't even officially joined the war yet. The only way you would honestly consider yourself the 'bad guy' in that situation is if you start blowing up planets in return.

A nitpick on why the CIS didn't launch an all-out offensive right after Geonosis: they didn't have the numbers yet. All they had were the droids evacuated from Geonosis, and using them against the Republic in an all-out offensive meant certain defeat. Legends had two campaigns, the Decimator campaign and the Dark Reaper campaign, that were pretty much a month-long distraction to give the CIS the time to build enough droids and Munificent frigates to hold the line, but Canon hasn't addressed the "why didn't the Republic use THEIR initial advantage to smash the CIS into rubble before they can build enough droids" yet.

because Jedi would have a harder time justifying fighting the clones instead of droids. Protecting flesh and blood is more natural for them whereas fighting them would have made most Jedi semi-aware of their darkness because they would have to take life to win. notice that most of the conflicts in clone wars have droid enemies not humanoid? there are only a few battles involving humanoid soldiers because it would spark something in the better people of the order. and using Droids vs. Droids would probably end up in some Solo style revolt. So Palpatine made the right call in manipulating the Jedi's inability to critically think to his own advantage. Exactly why he had to get rid of Qui-Gon and Count Dooku and Syfo-Dias.

SImply put, droids wouldn't be a surprise if they turned on you as they can be reprogramed. But with organics like Humans, you know them on an idividual basis, and with the Jedi having fought by the CLones for 3 years, especially with the Clones being so Human as to actually show friendship with their Jedi generals, it would definitly be more of a surprise when they men you've fought and died beside in a brutal war for 3 years suddenly turn on you. That's what I love about the inhibitor chips, rather then the CLones just knowing about Order 6 like in Legends, I love that they don't know about it, that the inhibitor chips just trigger it forcing the Clones to execute the order. It's more dark and insidious that these men don't even have a choice unless their chip is damaged and can't trigger. Which mean a Clone would have to be defective to even be able to choose.

it's worse, the chip behave like an infection, after a while the clone develop an immunity for that and fully realize what they have done
