Palpatine is the most interesting character in the series and they barely utilize him. Vader is interesting too but it's because a Shakespearean character whose story we get to see continue way after his tragedy. He's like the well natured guy that had way too much piled up on him until he broke, while Palpatine is the totally cool cucumber machiavellian, who was even more interesting in the old EU where he knew what needed to be done to stop the YV. I really hate how SW is pidgeon holed into being a "kids movie".

The Senate Guard still existed during the Imperial era, but they were called the “Blue Guards” and were sourced from the Imperial Royal Guard. They also acted more like the senators’ prison guards than their bodyguards.

According to Geetsly's, Palpatine miscalculated one thing, Alan. And that is Padme Amidala herself. Why? Because he cannot get rid of her without alienating Anakin, who is very important for his plan. What do you think of this?

With all due respect, it never feels like the Coruscant Guard are different from other clones. I mean, look at the guys with Yoda on Rugosa or the ones with Jar Jar on Florrum. Even the clones with Padme on Scipio don’t seem so different. Yeah, they were taken from Kamino and trained on Coruscant and we never really see them serve alongside Jedi like other clones, but the difference just seems so minimal if there is any. Hell, we even see in Bad Batch that they also get non-clone Shock Troopers about the same time as the other clones. Hell, I doubt even Fox would have lasted long in the Empire of Vader hadn’t executed him. Look at Wilco, the clone Rampart guns down. Yeah, Palpatine probably benefited from the clones taking over security from the Senate Guard, but that was probably because he knew they wouldn’t be nosy like the 501st clones, not because they would stay silent if they knew the truth. Take the case when Fives was accused of trying to kill Palpatine. I highly doubt Palpatine said out loud for the two clone guards to hear about the truth of the chips. But if he whispered to Fives instead and suddenly lurched back saying Fives threatened to kill him, the clones would move to arrest or kill Fives. Palpatine doesn’t need the clones to be in on his plans, he doesn’t need them to have evil morals. He just needs them to be so loyal that if he gives them a questionable order with a smile on his face, they do it no matter what. Because they trust him, because that’s what they were raised to think. Now, this admittedly doesn’t paint the Coruscant Guard in a better light. Sure they weren’t evil, but they’re also a bit more subservient than other clones. They have personalities and humanity, but so long as Palpatine doesn’t set off any obvious alarm bells, they’ll just stand around. They’re the last type of clones to butt their noses in like Fives, Kix, Rex, and the Bad Batch. The Guard is the closest to what Palpatine wanted in the clones without needing the inhibitor chips, but even they needed the chips. So the Guard in Canon isn’t as bad as they are in Legends or how KZreadrs like Geetsly say they are, but even I have to acknowledge that Palpatine chose them for a reason. Hell, in Legends it was the 501st that remained pure with clones for the longest time in the Empire. Maybe in Canon it was the Coruscant Guard. Nowhere close as long, but still possible.

I know you probably don’t take request but I’d love a video talking about what happened to all the clones that weren’t soldiers at the time of the ending of the program. Like for as much as people praise things like clone wars and bad batch for getting dark they haven’t seemed to mention what happened to all the child and teenaged clones before Kamino being blown up or legends talking about the similar situation as the clones were phased out

Palpatine would also replace them with imperial senate guard, like the coruscant guards and royal guards they were more loyal to him and they kept an eye on senators to ensure they would remain loyal to palpatine and the empire and eliminate them if they posed a threat. The imperial senate guard in legends also were tasked with helping the shadow guards hunt down the remaining jedi.

I wouldn't say replaced - they were what remained of the Senate Guard. A shadow of their former selves. Much like how the Nazi SA went from an independent organization loyal to the Nazi party as well as the SS's parent organization, to a minor branch of an SS that was loyal to Hitler and Hitler alone, the Senate Guard went from a parent organization of the Royal Guards loyal to the Republic, to a branch of the Royal Guards, who were loyal to Palpatine and Palpatine alone.

Sometimes my mind escapes to Star Wars and Generation Tech videos of Star Wars during work. I don’t talk as much compared to my co-workers, so, perhaps that’s why. I usually work the fries station in the kitchen, reading the screen, asking the bagger to ensure we’re in sync, dropping/picking up fries, and placing the fries into boxes and into the chute. Mostly keeping myself quiet though. This continues until whomever’s on boards decides I’m the one to start washing dishes (almost everyday). Between the vents, bubbling fryers, and the conveyer belt running from the front of the house to the back where the drive-thru is among other things, my surrounding environment gets very noisy. The reason why I wrote all of this is because your “Own a Saber” advertisements became a growing reoccurrence whenever my thoughts trail to Star Wars during work. I guess I can say that I’m living through un-skippable ads, regularly follow Generation Tech, or just am plain crazy. lol

Would love to hear thoughts on the Yuuzhan Vong war from a military perspective. And any of the later legends space battles too. Love what you do Generation Tech!

Because he wanted to keep his Shock Trooper clones away from everyone. They were the prototype stormtroopers that oppressed the people of Coruscant after they nationalized CSF (Coruscant Security Force). The former did the door kicking, the latter checked IDs and filled out the rosters.

In legends in addition to being one of the main infantry units, the 501st was also used to carry out personal missions for Palpatine, with the entirety of the og battlefront 2 campaign mode being that. In canon the 501st was split up hours before Order 66 and Operation Knightfall, with most of the more jedi loyal troops, like Rex, Jesse Vaughn and Ridge where put into the 332nd, while the main force was under the command of Appo, who had only as of current information only worked with Anakin and Krell, and since Anakin was leading them as Vader all he and presumably the rest of the 501st had to go off for the rest of the jedi had to go off of was Krell. Mando season 3 has confirmed the Coruscant guard was also involved, the 501st was deployed to assault the temple, while the Coruscant Guard was activated to deal with any Jedi that escaped the temple.

But the corusant guard was a part of the grand army of the republic since the start of the clone war So even tho they replaced the senate guard they were already used for law enforcement and senator protection from the start (they were here since frist episode of the clonewars)

True, but earlier on they where mainly a rapid response force only used in certain situations, but throughout the war they started to absorb more and more duties of the Senate Guard until the SG were basically just ceremonial and protection of Coruscant and the Senate, fell to the CG, it started with extremely dangerous hostage rescues and escorting important diplomats off world and guarding prisons, then to guarding even more important installations like the power plant and assisting the CSF in patrols, then staffing a military base and then to guarding the senate building itself.

Thanks for this history of the fall of the Senate Guards.

Honestly can see a young Luthen as coming from the ranks of Senate Guard. Maybe from their intelligence wing and saw something he wasn't supposed to witness? Maybe a 'accident' happened to his intelligence unit to cover up Palpatines crimes just before the Senate leadership change?A select unit of senate guardsman investigating Palpatine on behalf of Valorum where he was the last member left surviving from his unit of guardsman?

Palpatine was a masterful lightsaber duelist and force user but I think his greatest asset was his intelligence. He became senator, gained control of the Trade Federation which indirectly helped him to become a chancellor and then it took him only ca. 10+ years - and a fake civil war - to turn mostly formal democratic position into a position with dictatorial powers.

Hey GT love the video's and have been watching for 2 years now. But I've never seen something that more recently has been touched on in the background of Star Wars. That is were the Separatist movement wrong? As in some ways if I try to scale their politics and faction as a whole I see that, they do happen to have some good points and predictions for that of the G.A.R. and some wrong ones for sure. But with the rise of the Empire and the aftermath of it Between Andor and Mando season 3 Episode 6. We get to see perspectives of the average Separatist citizen with the case of Mando season 3 and in Andor we as the fans are found cheering for a former Separatist citizen. I find this extremely interesting and have been wondering what's your opinion on it GT? As well as others opinions? I wanna hear it.

for a lot of the worlds that bad been screwed over or neglected by the republic for years, yes most if not all of them aside from a select handful like Geonosis or corporate worlds had very legitimate reasons, but for the corporations backing it, no, they wanted to escape regulation. we even see in the Clone Wars how a single misaction can turn a formerly loyal world and population into separatists, that world being Umbara, the Umbarans were loyal to the republic, until their senator was murdered and the republic failed to protect him, which made Umbara doubt that they could trust the republic to protect them and they didn't want to risk losing another senator, so they chose to willingly leave the republic. then there is the matter of separatist leaders, individuals like Whorm Loathsom, seemed to have been true believers in the separatist cause and willingly chose to represent their people in battle and were good and honorable people, using Whorm as an example, he was willing to and accepted Obi-Wan's surrender and only lashing out after it became very clear that Obi-Wan was not only being disingenuous, but taking advantage of Whorm's honor and committing a war crime. But others like Lok Durd, Dr. Nuvo Vindi, Trench and Riff Tamson where only in it for personal gain.

Something this has made me think about, the Coruscant Guard's phase 1 armor had a darker red color similar to that of markings on Republic vehicles which is the color of the Republic, but with the switch to phase 2 the red becomes a brighter red similar to that of Palpatine's Red Guard, could just be an unintentional detail that I'm overthinking, but it's something interesting to think about, especially with Bad Batch showing how that darker shade of red with ties to the Republic has been removed from vehicles and ships it used to accent like the AT-TE walkers and Ventators, maybe he chose for the phase 2 shock troopers and his Red Guard to match the color of the blade of a Sith lightsaber.

Imagine if a clone wars era senate guard high command who was loyal more to the republic and democracy and was well liked and respected. in canon it's do to the chips, and it's implied that Palpatine had someway to modify order 66, as both Ahsoka and Maul were targeted by it despite not being Jedi, so it's likely that Palpatine had Anakin marked as an exception.

Well "Zelda, a Link to the Past" taught me that red is objectively better than blue, so I think Palps had the right idea.

Hi generation tech, this is Bill Chrysler. I’m a big fan of your content, and your more realistic take on star wars with thought exercises and evidence based theories are amazing. However I am afraid that I must disagree with you on one thing: the dark saber is not destroyed. So I went and watched the scene multiple times, at the slowest speed possible and noticed something important. Bo Katan is wearing beskar. The hilt of the darksaber is also beskar. Not just any beskar though. At the time stamp of 13:20 on the disney plus book of boba fett episode five, return of the Mandalorian, Din Djarin says that the quality of beskar in the hilt is of a quality never seen before, to which the armorer says “indeed, it was forged over a thousand years ago.” At the same time, Bo Katan’s armor looks thin, of a quality most normal Mandalorians have, that can barely stop a blaster bolt. So how is it possible that Moff Gideon, who has a “Beskar alloy” cybernetic hand, can crush the darksaber, which is of high quality, without crushing the barely shielded and fragile human hand of Bo Katan. The answer is that he can’t. In fact, if you look at the crushed darksaber, the place where the crystal should be is barely damaged. That's because Gideons thumb and pointer finger rest slightly above Bo Katan's hand, so while the mixture of the beskar hilt plating, and Bo Kaktan’s armor stop Gideon from breaking the middle of the hilt, he does destroy the emitter, which is why the blade stops manifesting. But then the camera zoomed in at the crushed part, as we see a spasm of dark saber energy coming from the wrecked emitter. This proves that the crystal is not heavily damaged. If it was, the saber would explode, with the pent up energy as we see many time, such as the death stars crystals, the massive kyber crystal in rebels, the experimental lightsaber of that arrogant youngling in the Illum arc of the clone wars. But we don't see any kind of explosion from the saber. So the crystal is intact, big deal, so what? Well that means that Grogu could use the crystal from the dark saber to create a new lightsaber for himself. Now the major flaw in this theory is the massive explosion that take place soon after, but if you observe where they are standing in the crushing scene, it is almost exactly where Grogu stands during the explosion, and in the background, as Din is shooting Gideon right before the explosion you can see what looks like the darksaber, sitting on the ground, where it would be inside the force bubble. And even if it wasn't inside the force bubble, it wouldn't matter. The flash in temperature was severe, but it was not prolonged enough to melt the strongest metal in the galaxy to a point that it would permanently damage the crystal. And even if the crystal is cracked, it can still be made into a lightsaber, as shown by Kylo Ren. In the end, I think that the crystal survives and will be used by Grogu to construct a new lightsaber. What I thought you might be interested in is would this new lightsaber be considered the darksaber. Would it unite the clans again? Would Grogu be seen as a hero for repairing it, and therefore competition for Bo Katan. It’s an absolute disney move to have a horde of mandalorians following around a baby, refusing to leave. Then it raises the question of who the dark saber properly belongs to. Who defeated Moff Gideon? Was it Woves who flew the cruiser, Din, who shot Gideon, or will it be Grogu, who prevented the deaths of the others? Is saving someone's life kind of defeating them, because you have defeated their enemy by saving them. I don't know. Maybe Grogu will use the force to repair it, maybe he will reforge it in the great mines, or maybe the Mythosaur will help him somehow. I can see this becoming a whole thing. Anyways it's very interesting and I think that you should consider it as a possibility. Thought it might be the kind of thought exercise you might enjoy.

An idea i've been wondering about for a while is how the Empire "marketed" Vader, was he used for propaganda? Or was he just a ghost that somehow everyone knew about?

Early on as shown in the Vader comics he was kept top secret.

Sidious is a master of the long game and making sure that all possible threats to his eventual ascension to emperor of the galaxy are nullified. That he could practically trach classes on how to subtly and slowly undermine and dismantle a democratic government and institutions and replace them with an autocratic military dictatorship.

Palpatine really was a massive genios.

Well that’s not really fair, clone commandos are met to work in groups. If you want to compare individual skill then replace the commandos with ARC troopers.

None of this is canon... Its ALL Disney Star Wars. Karen Traviss, James Luceno, and Matthew Stover wrote the *_GEORGE LUCAS_* canon, and it is VERY different from Star Wars: Clone Wars. I suggest you read it, because Lucas is going to buy back the SW franchise from Disney.

Even the Clone wars animated show proved how unskilled they are even when confronted with B1 battel droids. Hell padme had to save her own skin and the entire Senate when bounty hunters held the entire semate hostage. Did anyone see the senate guard in that episode because i didn't.
