So in the Emperor’s Empire, you had Tarkin discarding the competent Imperial officers, meanwhile Darth Vader was choking the life out of incompetent officers, so the safest bet in the Empire, was to be a mid, extremely mediocre officer, I am sure in the officers’ break room “out of sight, out of mind” was their mantra to live another day 😅

First Tarkin throws Rampart underneath the bus; then he eliminates Krennic. Both were ruthless monsters but in the authoritarian Empire they were some of the best leaders in the system. And of course, let's not forget the massive idiocy that was destroying Alderaan: in a High Human Culture society, you go after the aliens first and quietly sweep up the humans suporting them; if Tarkin had destroyed Mon Cala or an Outer Rim world like Lothal, the backlash wouldn't have been so fierce. Then Tarkin backs the worst people possible: Pryce was an imbecile who climbed the ranks thanks to aiding Tarkin in his political manuvearing. Thrawn, while a strategic genuis, was forced to accommodate Pryce for the political leaverage she wielded and Tarkin did little to aid Thrawn on this front. Even in BB S3, he's quarreling with Hemlock over finances and trying to worm his way into Tantiss!

Palpatine after the creation of the Empire kind of reminds me of Plaguis in his book, where they both gain as much power in the mundane world as they possibly can before realizing that true power comes from unlocking the full potential of the dark side where they then abandon just about everything but their studies and leave the domination of the galaxy to their apprentice/underlings which ultimately leads to their downfall

What’s most unbelievable about the imprisonment of Rampart js the Emperor didn’t need to actually imprison him. The Emperor could easily have gone through the motions of punishing Rampart only to have e him whisked into a secret team on any number of secret vault worlds or secret projects. In an Empire comprised of millions of inhabited worlds and, I assume, has many thousands of secret projects happening at any given time, the Emperor could have done it. But the other problem with being evil and narcissistic is you can’t be bothered to make that kind of effort.

Whats more, he was in his late seventies by the time the Clone Wars ended. Combined you begin to understand why he was so mask off post republic even though the Empire was far from complete. He would either find a way to extend his lifespan through plundering the galaxy, or die with the satisfaction he got to spend his golden years being cartoonishly evil. Palpatine was the perfect Sith, so completely selfish he was willing to squander the thousand year old grand plan for no reason other than it didn't directly benefit him to execute it to completion.

HItler died and Donetz took his place, issue was the Reich was pretty much occupied by that point so everything was in tatters. Issue is Hitler had a succession plan. And I reject the very idea Operation Cinder exist it's the stupid and most ret*rded plot point scifi history. There is no way the Empire would of not had something in place in case Palpatine died. Even Palpatine himself should know he wouldn't live forever, even as a force user. He got perks, even believed in the New Order, but lacked the clout of someone like Tarkin or Mass Ameda, so when the Senate found out it his Star Destroyers that destroyed Tipoca City, he was the one left holding the bag. And the Emperor was able to put everything on him.

An excellent analysis of the Empire and its intrinsic deficiencies. With respect to idealistic people like Rampart, you have two possible scenarios: first, the more they learn about how the system they support actually works, the more disillusioned they become and the more likely they are to ultimately betray it and defect, which is essentially what happened with Agent Callus in Rebels. Alternatively, they maintain their loyalty but come to see its leadership as the ultimate source of imperfection and conspire with like-minded people to overthrow it. A perfect example of this in real life was Claus von Stauffenberg and his co-conspirators in the July Plot. Whatever the case, it's only a matter of time before they become a threat to those in power. Thus, his face turn (assuming that's what the writers of the show intend) doesn't come as a complete shock.

It doesn't help that in the comics, a royal guard named Carnor Jax also sabotaged the cloning process and made the Sith lord's supply of bodies genetically unstable, causing them to break down even faster.

True but the empire could've reigned for hundreds of years if Palpatine put half the effort into the Empire that he did into the Republic. Its broken because its doomed; Palpatine's awareness of this fact (or whether or not that was by Palpatine's design) doesn't change the fact that The Empire as a whole (which is what the title of the video refers to) was broken because it was completely unsustainable. This led to Palpatine's demise at the end of the original trilogy which highlights one of the main themes of star wars; being a selfish leader and trampling on others will have a negative outcome in the end

Honestly I'm surprised Rampart was still alive at this point. Palpatine can be even more brutal to failures then Vader is, as terrifying and brutal as Vader force choking an Imperial Officer to death or impaling them with a lightsaber its tame in comparison to how Palpatine would treat Imperial officers that screwed up in a big way hell even non-officers just ask Beval Lemelisk the Death Star Archetect who Sidious executed by throwing him to flesh eating bettles, then cloned and essence-transfered him only to execute him a second time by dropping him into a vat of molten copper and repeat the process. That's just one example you need also take a look at the Crimson Protectors in how they the most elite of the Emperor's guards were trained he'd have trainees at the end of the class paired up and have to fight each other to the death for a position in the guard, very often the two guard trainees were good friends and the trainees previous had trained in teams. Also overpreformers risked having to fight Darth Vader when Sidous and Vader both showed up when that happened Palpatine would select the best in the class and have them fight Vader to the death in an arena called the Squall and well anyone knows what happens when they have to fight Darth Vader one vs one you are dead no matter what. But yeah given Palpatine's brutality towards anyone that draws his ire or hell even people that preform too good its surprising that Rampart was alive, albiet sent to waste the rest of his days in a labor camp and even more so considering Rampart was a loose end and Sidious doesn't like leaving loose ends alive just ask Lama Su and the Kaminoans as a whole; you'd think that he'd have used Rampart as a brutal example to any Imperial officers. Just saying Rampart being alive is something that bastard can count himself lucky for considering that Sidious has killed people for far less and well the guy is a psychopath who enjoys killing people in messed up fashion the guy's first act on becoming a Sith was to murder his entire family something that very few Sith Lords are attributed as doing, the only other Sith of note to have done that was Darth Vitiate who like Palpatine was also a cold-blooded psychopath.

Bit of a counter point though is actually, a lot of leaders unfortunately are like Wilhuff Tarkin. However unlike Tarkin, most of them are willing to spend time on people worth the effort. In other words you exist to make your leaders look good, if you do it enough, eventually they will take notice and they will make you look good in turn.

Anakin liked Tarkin in clone wars so I wonder if maybe that also played a part in Palpatine in having him around. A team up of Rampart and Thrawn at the top instead of Tarkin would've done wonders for the empire.

After watching this video, I cannot helped but wondering what went through Palpatine's mind when he heard that Tarkin is no more and so did most of the high-ranking Imperial military officers onboard the First Death Star. Personally, I believed he went into total panicking mode because he had no idea what to do with this like at all. But what do you guys think?

I never really understand why slavery is so huge in Star Wars. I know you can make the argument against droids for the empire. It was right after the clone wars and anti droid sentiment, all that. But a droid workforce is so much less resource intensive. You’d think the pros would out way the cons just from a practical standpoint. That’s not even mentioning the moral implications that go along with slavery.

Had Vice Admiral Rampart replaced the clones on his ship with soldiers from War Mantle, his fate would have been different… until Tarkin figured out that Rampart would eventually take his position. At that point, Tarkin would set him up for failure and get rid of him. So, basically, Rampart was always one slip up away from prison. Or execution. As for Palpatine, he would have been better off letting others be the face of government while he secretly manipulated things behind the scenes. That way, he could simply instigate a regime change to give the appearance of democracy while he still held the reins from the shadows. It’s kinda how DCAU Lex Luthor didn’t want to be President because he’d have to give up too much power.

Wow! It’s amazing how an animated series can so closely depict modern politics. I think bringing Rampart back in the picture will set up the remaining episodes. Will Rampart seek revenge on the Empire and assist the Bad Batch, or will he seek favor from the Empire and rat them out?
