What peeves me is that how QUICKLY the Clones got replaced the moment the Galactic Empire is formed. Sure, the Empire don't want to do business with Kamino anymore and had already shut down their attempted rebellion before it even begun but they should kept the Clones around for a long while. Slowly but surely replacement as the Clones' rapid aging caught up with them but not before they train the Stormtroopers as their successors at the meantime.

    Clone scuba troopers from what I understand were a fairly small elite unit because of how hard underwater combat is (as you said), hence why even though they took relatively few losses compared to the other units in the mon cala arc, this was still a blow to the Republic to lose such elite men. I would imagine that Commander Monk and his men were more skilled than the average clones due to this gruelling experience. Their weapons, the DC12U were so effective that the Empire and First Order did not feel the need to commission new models of underwater blasters and continued to use them.

    @@GenerationTech Damn, this is an honour! To address your point, maybe lack of unit cohesion with the clones in both canon and legends sense is the reason why. I mean when the unit that is the best at working with auxiliary forces (the 41st) is literally full of fans of Tarkin and his policies and when even in TCW the clones used derogatory terms like tailhead to describe their own allies the Twileks and assumed that Blurrg cavalry would be crap at face value, it would take a very competent Jedi General to unite auxiliaries and clones, and there are only so many of those.

    @@GenerationTech I'm pretty sure they did. We saw them deploy Gungans to liberate Dac in the Clone Wars pretty rapidly. They just didn't get as much screen time on account of not being the main focus of the show, which was the Jedi and the clones. That, and clones don't play well with others.

    The Umbaran friendly fire incident is still so heart wrenching. The unique dramatic music is practically solely for that scene. It’s probably made pretty clear that tricking clones into friendly fire is one of the single worst acts of treachery you can subject them to. It probably took enormous Will power for the clones to take Pong Krel in alive rather than execute him on the spot. I’ll never forget the 501st

    I feel like in any other sci-fi setting a standardized upbringing of a identical clone army from one gene template would produce the exact same trooper with the exact same personality. But in Star Wars the army is achieved by speeding up the aging of the clones. So essentially it’s an army of 10 year olds who are extremely impressionable. Of course everyone would develop the own personality when expressed to the real “world”. Especially one made of a vast galaxy with many inhabitants and cultures.

    6:02 that is so true! The 104th deserves more credit, and not just the Wolfpack either, I hope that we can see the 104th itself in a major land battle, because usually we just see members of the Wolfpack and that is the only representation they get. I would actually argue that the OG 104th members are probably more elite than the 212th, because the 212th (and even the 501st) is a lot bigger than people understand and we actually only followed the stories of a couple of companies in TCW, but probably the newbies who joined after the Malevolence crisis are less battle hardened and therefore make the 104th on the same level as 212th and 501st.

  • @zeratul____1228

    @zeratul____1228

    Yeah the tradgedy of the 104th cannot be understated, the unit was basically wiped out save for the jedi commander and 3 Clone troopers, given that a venator can hold up to 9,400 crew and troopers and 3 of those were lost that was 28,200 souls lost to the Malevolence. The Malevolence was a monster of capital ship and the massacres it would commit are staggering, good thing they were able to destroy it. Side note: imagine if the ion cannon was upscaled to like a Death Star scale, and rather than destroy planets it would just wiped out all the tehcnology on the world shutting down defence systems, communications, starships and practically send them back to the Stone Age.

    Something I always wanted to know more about, or at least felt could have been fleshed out a bit more wider organisation between all of the different clone units. You're given an overall structure of 4 battalions to a regiment. 4 regiments to a legion and 4 legions to a corps, but there's rarely a detailed breakdown of beyond the single units we immediately see or just one smaller division along with the wider unit its part of, but know very little about the rest. Such as with the 7th Sky Corps, we know it contains the 212th Attack Battalion, but know very little about the rest of their units and never see the legion designation used or even how the numbering system actually works.

    The Coruscant Guard is a nickname. They are military police, but were mainly stationed on Coruscant. You could probably find them in the brig of ships, and definitely could find them in prisons. The Empire had some for a while as well, though Patrol Troopers and Stormtroopers seem to replace them on the MP and Brig, having Imperial Shocktroopers being more glorified security and more decorative. At least thats my understanding, wouldn't surprise me if lore has changed or if new lore has been added.

  • @Just_Lars

    (Disclaimer: I solely talk about Canon here, the EU had a somewhat different reasoning to offer) Simply put, they kept them for training the new Stormtrooper corps, like they did with the Commandos. While the tendency of both kinds of clones was to think more independent and (to some degree) individualistic wasn't exactly liked, those in command still recognized the need for experienced training officers and knowledge transfer. Also, even tho the status of the clones degraded rapidly due to their enhanced aging, they were still very capable and loyal fighters, who also very conveniently wouldn't be missed if they got KIA. So in the aftermath of the clone wars, they often got the REALLY dirty jobs or simply those who were dangerous without offering any fame. Fighting insurgents, protecting garrisons on remote worlds with dangerous wildlife or climate. This way, you could keep out your new, shiny conventional troops (and by that, their moral high) while using the remaining assets effectively.

    In Legends the ARCs and commandos were the *only* ones to desert in meaningful numbers. However this was never the majority of them. From what I remember some ARCs just retired and used their status and pension from the Empire to become mercenaries. In Canon ARCs weren't necessarily individual because Filoni fucked up the lore and now ARC is something you earn and not specially enhanced and trained clones.
