5 Cylinder 944 Build - Part 10 (Porsche 944 07K Swap)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this weeks episode, we put the VW 07K swapped Porsche 944 back on the dyno. Is the Volkswagen 2.5L 5 cylinder a good engine to swap? Will we continue to have belt issues? How much of an improvement in power was there? Tune in to find out!

    The 07K head is garbage without porting. If you compare ports to the TTRS/RS3 it's night and day. The 07k has econo ports for bottom end torque and economy. With Veicomer dimple porting and a straight as possible intake the 07k cammed Is a 300hp engine all day. It seems crazy but porting is not too expensive, especially with a bulk run. Probably less than a grand. know you are trying to make an affordable kit for everyone and you are the man! You and your bro 👊 are doing a most excellent service for the 944 people. Just remember, a lot of these "Porsha" guys spend over 10 grand on a 2.5 turbo build 😳 🤯. 07k needs porting, intake, cams, and header to make around 300hp NA. And turbos only double whatever power level you have about every 18 pounds. 1 Bar plus a touch for temp and exh restriction. Start with 190, get 380, start with 300, get 600 😁

    I definitely want to play with porting at some point. I’d still like to do a 300hp NA build, potentially for the 914. This one is just going to get boots crammed down it’s throat until it makes the number or goes boom! Thanks for the info and kind words!

    Hi! thanks for great videos! I have an old boxster with the m96.20 2.5L engine and i want to turbo it. I have allt the components and everything it takes to build it i'm just curious how the engine block will handle 0.4-0.5bar boost and also if there is aftermarket headgaskets avalible or if the original would hold for 0.5 bar. Thanks!

    TPC makes turbo kits for Cayman, and they keep boost to around 5 psi. They don’t change head gaskets, just a bolt on deal. The turbo would obviously make the car a blast, just be conservative with your tune and you should be fine

    I did too. I didn’t get to see a good overview of the dyno graph, so I was am taking Alan’s word for it. We are going to get it back on the dyno to fine tune the VVT and make sure the redline is set in the right spot. Unless the VVT makes drastic changes this is going to be peak.

    Hi, BB, I have lost the plot a little on the Kman engine build. The crank housing you have there is the M97 one right? If so why fitting 02 Carrera main shells are they stronger/better or just same? Thank you.

  • @BoostBrothersGarage

    No, that crank housing is 996. We are swapping to a M96 3.4 that’s been bored to a 3.8. Got a deal on it we couldn’t pass up!

    I recently bought 2 944s so one is getting 07k na build with itbs and an 01e transaxle. I am curious thought do you think the Lamborghini manifold from the opposite side would fit?

    sweet vid! you guys have convinced me to do a 07k 944 swap! I read on rennlist that the 07k can be reved safely to 8500 rpm and 500hp on stock internals with a turbo. do you believe this to be true? and also most importantly what transmission are you going to use in the turbo car to handle the torque? think you could get away with an s2 transmission or need a 951 transmission? Thanks for all the great content!

  • @BoostBrothersGarage

    @BoostBrothersGarage

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Paul! My understanding is 8500 rpm can be done on stock internals with upgraded cams and springs. Power however is limited to around 400 wheel hp, which would be close to 500 crank. I have been told the factory crank is good to 600 ft lbs, which if so means upgrading the rods and pistons only would get you way past the point of OMG OMG OMG lol. As for the trans, I have a 951 trans ready to go into the car once I Turbo it. If I ever decide to go for big power and the 951 transaxle becomes the limiting factor I will do an 01E swap.

    Boost Brothers Garage awesome thanks for the reply! where would you source a good 951 transmission, and do you think an s2 trans would hold up? would the shorter gearing be an issue, and do you have any plans on making an adapter kit for the 0e1 transmission?

  • @BoostBrothersGarage

    @BoostBrothersGarage

    4 жыл бұрын

    eBay, RennList and the Facebook groups would be my go to for sourcing a transaxle. The S2 gearing would be a great match for an NA build, but the 951 trans would be better for a turbo build. I believe they are the same strength? We are not making an 01E adapter, but Brian from Widerstansfahig / Project Nine is!

    Boost Brothers Garage awesome thanks! and will that holset turbo you got from the junkyard get 400 whp? and will i need e85 or meth injection to get to 400 whp? also will your swap kit mounts and bellhousing support that much power? thanks so much for your replies!

  • @BoostBrothersGarage

    @BoostBrothersGarage

    4 жыл бұрын

    The Holset will have room to spare at 400 wheel. I will just be running 93, although E85 would make that power easier. The swap components that we manufactured were computer modeled to handle at least 600 ft lbs of torque, with slicks and a hard launch.
