Turbo 07K Build - Part 9 (Porsche 944 5 Cylinder Swap)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The hard work paid off! We made silly power from a $300 junkyard engine, even surpassing a modified 6.0 LS! We are super pumped and couldn't have done it without Performance Electronics and our tuner David. Get your swap today!

Pressure preferably 0.75 to 1x boost, if your in that zone then not an issue. If your running 1.25 to 1.5x then bigger waste gate or turbine for sure. • @BoostBrothersGarage

    @BoostBrothersGarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey there, thanks for stopping by! On this swap we are running the factory transmission but it is a rear mounted transaxle. For your application you would most likely want to run an Audi 01E transmission, although we are developing the components to run a Ford T5 behind the 07K as well.

  • @BoostBrothersGarage

    @BoostBrothersGarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@pacoflyer the 01E requires way too much work for a standard front engine rear drive application. It works for the 944 because the 944 is a rear mounted transaxle. A T56 will not easily adapt to an 07K as uses a front mount starter that interferes with the block

  • @geneqco

    @geneqco

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, no doubt turbine hot side would make a significant difference but would be interesting to see the difference made on the dyno by dropping the exhaust at the downpipe as you suggested. LR had significant gains on a fairly stock 951 S at 16 psi boost using a 4" exhaust even though it seemed to be mostly 3.5" with the final section at 4". I think the pressure wave builds along the length of the exhaust which is why there can be gains in a tapered or even stepped exhaust. Anyway, I've really been enjoying following this so thanks for all your posts and videos and the tremendous effort in making all this happen - keep up the good work!

    3:45 not gonna lie though, that is one fine N/A engine, too! If I ever need to chuck out the old Bosch KE-Jetronic in my 5-cylinder Audi, I'll come knocking on your door ;) BTW, how does the turbo 07K compare to the 944 Turbo inline-4 with regards to weight and COG when you include the respective ancillaries? 5:14 gotta say, when you remove all that plastic cover crap from modern engine bays, at least sometimes a gorgeous engine is revealed! 7:08 - dumb question probably, but why can't it be the cold side? I was thinking maybe some intercooler choke-spot.

  • @BoostBrothersGarage

    @BoostBrothersGarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    The 07K is lighter and sits further back in the engine bay. It definitely improves the weight distribution! The cold side is possible but not very likely due to using 2.5” intercooler piping and a 3” core intercooler. I guess the throttle body could be a touch small but shouldn’t cause it to die off like that. Factory cams may be a part of the problem!

    @@BoostBrothersGarage cams were my thought too, I seem to remember Hank saying the stock cams weren't much good past 6500 or 7k. Could be a combo problem. And damn near a 50hp difference between dynos... that's more than I thought it would be.

  • @BoostBrothersGarage

    @BoostBrothersGarage

    10% between dyno’s, I think that’s about right. The Mustang dyno is better for tuning because it can properly load the car down. The DynoJet is an inertia dyno. Cams weren’t an issue at lower boost, it made power to 7500. But, it could very well have become a restriction as airflow increased.

    22lbs of boost?? It wont be long before you're looking for another engine for that car. Max I would run is about 14 lbs which should yeild about 350 hp and 275 ftlbs of torque. From an engine logevity standpoint shifting at 6600 is PERFECT for this engine JMHO, especially if you plan on using this as a track car. PS was anything done with the timing???

    22 was just for some fun on the dyno, we are rolling it back to 16 for the street and 18 for the track. This has a stand-alone ECU and custom tune.

    All stock internals at this point. Yeah, the NA 07K is iron block. Unfortunately the 07K EVO won’t work with our swap kit but it’s still prohibitively expensive anyway. I think the last 07K EVO I saw for sale was like $18k

    I am late to the game on this as I just saw it, but it is possible it isn't a turbo issue. The heads/ cams may be out of efficiency range and may not be able to flow enough/ properly to make power beyond a certain RPM. I've seen drop offs like that where larger turbo swaps still do the same. A lot of the modern 4 cylinder turbo cars do that. Like the Fiesta ST/ Focus ST. No matter what turbo and fueling, peak power remains essentially the same RPM with drop offs. Great set up though! That's a hell of a build!! I bet it's a blast to drive!
