4x4 PTO Driven Timber Trailer BUILD Ep.4 - Chain Housing Finished

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finishing 4x4 PTO driven timber trailer tandem axle chain housing, one side at least. Cutting out the last S355 chain housing parts on the homemade CNC plasma table. Using 6mm S355 steel for all of the housing parts. Sprockets and bearings are off-the-shelf parts I ordered from a farmer store. This 100mm chain tensioner sprocket with the chain tensioner box mount will have a stop inside where the chain tensioner push bolt is tightened against. The hatch lid I cut out is 6mm (1/4") and S355 but I guess it wouldn't hurt to add some reinforcement on the lid and maybe some additional bolts to hold it down more firmly. Excessive force on the lid will only be a problem while reversing the trailer because only then there will be any force applied on the chain tensioner. Next thing in my TO-DO list is the housing for the BMW E39 differential that will be built in between the frame rails. Then the trailer frame itself, propshaft etc. To be continued. Stay tuned!
Trailer specs:
* 28x11-14" tires & 14" rims
* 1450mm/57" wide; length and height - unknown
* tandem axles with homemade chain housings
* BMW E39 530D differential with 2.81 gearing (identical to the UTV diffs)
* hydraulic crane with a boom & grapple for easier log loading & handling
* independent hydraulic power pack
* radio controlled hydraulic winch on the boom
* load capacity - 1-1,5 metric tonne
Stay tuned for the next episode & thanks for watching!

    I recommend you get xtra key components that eventually you will not be able to get like xtra differential...Years down the road it will come in handy if you need to swap a failed one.

    I got 3/8" square drive tap drivers from Snap On that would have saved an hour (or more) using a cordless impact wrench (to thread the chain access cover holes)! I started tapping with a cordless drill (not impact!) cast iron when building wind turbines, after told to do it that way by the manufacturer. It works, trust me! I was amazed, then converted to impact wrenches when I found Snap On sold the tap drive sockets! I'm never going back, it's easier to keep the tap aligned with the hole than using those old "universal wrench" things!!

    Man! Even a mag-base drill! You may want to build a frame to lift each side final drive off the trailer as a unit with the wheels on. This would allow one side to be brought into the shop for repairs if/when something goes badly wrong in the chain case. It'll be far too heavy to manhandle, but your skid steer could lift and carry it easily. Overall, I'm really impressed with this, and the UTV. Both are something every farmer/rancher should have in his equipment inventory. Well done! Now finish your sandwich and build the rest of it! ;)!

    Great Video! The grease fitting on the pillow bearings are not for the bearing itself but for the bearing cage to bearing race contact. if you want to grease your bearings you need a grease needle to feed the grease between the bearing seal and race. I just found this out. I do not know if this is the case for these bearings in the video?
