Making Wheel Widening Machine
The machine is very helpful in making the widening of steel wheels, for the drive I used an electric motor with a gear, the engine speed was additionally reduced so that it was possible to weld not only with the mig method but also with the tig method. With such a widening of the wheels, work must be done very carefully, without haste, weld with high current to perform remelting. The wheel that I widened is much harder to widen than the regular wheel, but thanks to the rollers, I managed to make this wheel perfectly, the rollers help to center and align the wheel axis

I’m 73 , we were cutting rims n widening them in the 60s . Looks like the idea matured. steel wheels are preferred in certain applications . Good job
Wonderful! The roller guides are simply brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
A hat tip to you sir!!! I just watched you do the work of at least 5 highly skilled people. Engineer/Welder/Machinist/Electrician/Machine Assembly and operator. As a retired machinist and machine assembler I truly enjoyed your video!
As a 69 year old mechanic, machinist, welder,ie Fabricator I admire this ingenuity. Simple, inexpensive & accurate.
Very genius build. It gives me ideas for fabricating snow/all terrain tracks for vehicles, atv’s, and utv’s. Thank you for getting the gears turning even faster in my head.

A wonderful example of basic fabrication skills honed by years of practice and a joy to watch. Unfortunately seen very little anymore
Wonderful. I had a pair of OEM polished aluminum Ford wheels from my 2012 Mustane widened by a craftsman in Michigan. I don't know how HE did it, but it came out very well. 8" wheels became 10" wheels, yet looked STOCK. Same idea. Props on an easy-to-understand and well-thought-out build.
Definitely, the design, the workmanship, the achievement, are beyond description.Thanks.
Wow! Just wow! Did I say, "Wow?" Obviously, the end result justifies all the work involved in producing this marvelous machine. Well done!
really like this project. Thanks for sharing. I often thought about buidling something like this as well. One reason was to also straighten bent wheel rims, as well as to produce round parts like pressure tanks. Now to find a good spot in the workshop to store this fixture !
Hi from Japan. The playful tolerance of motorcycles and buggies produces high-level fixtures, and we respond with gratitude. The wheel that I was able to see today was the author, and a lot of your ideas and wisdom were put into it. Have a nice day. Greetings. Follow/🔔~
Have to admit, thats a tool ill never need and a process Ill never desire for my car. Yet I respect the craftsmanship and technique to make it happen.
Impressive. :) I like the approach to the problem. Where I used to work we had weld tables to weld round objects. I've done hundreds of setups on this machine so the workers could weld all kinds of stuff on it.
I've literally no idea why you would want to do this, but extremely impressive! Bravo!
Great build friend!! This is the kind of skill industries were built from!!
Excellent work 👍👍👍 . Thank you for sharing. Take care of yourself, be safe, and healthy 🇨🇦

Excellent workmanship! Sure beats the way we did Ford wide 5 lugs back in the '50's/'60's for early "stock cars". We used an old brake drum lathe with a center section of"37 Ford rear hub. Accurate enough for "circle burners".

Cutting off the back side of another rim to replace the front, for widening & looks, was popular back then, the welding was not nearly as nice. Being able to cut down to the center piece with the cutoff wheel and being able to center the addition on the center piece is a BIG help.
You create some awesome tools. I enjoy every single one of your videos. Thanks for the inspiration.

Impressive work. You obviously put a lot thought into the design, and as others have mentioned not a CNC machine in sight. Very well engineered and very enjoyable watching the process. 👍

Learning how to widen a rim is one thing. Knowing how make the machine is another and seeing both happen is believing. Kudos 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Fantastic video! Excellent planning and splendid final result as always!
WONDERFUL WATCHING SKILLED ENGINEER MAKING STUFF. LOVE IT
You're pretty damn handy, lol! I'm also pretty sure you did a better job than the factory did when they made that wheel. Only thing I would have done is made the wheel wider if I was going to go to all that work. Good job, Man!
This is how we widened wheels when I worked for Tacoma Wheels, back in the 1960's. Still works!

Back in the 70's, I did work for a company that manufactured RV's in Los Angeles. They modified small import pick-up trucks. They needed wider tires for the back, they did exactly what you saw in the video. I don't recall the machine that cut the rim all that complicated though. It seemed they cut the wheel on a lathe, didn't use a cut-off disk like in the video. They then welded a section of pipe in, I don't recall what kind of welder, believe it was a MIG welder though. Apparently the wheel size they needed was not commercially manufactured, they needed them, they built them. Jim
Great skillful work with basic facility, work from heart with great passion.

Wow amazing. I used metal hacksaw machines in the 70s. The blades were often breakin tho. The company made roller shutter doors.
Every single post you have made is impressive. I remember the first shop and the things you made in. You should be very proud of yourself.
Your competence and skill is extraordinary... (But you already know that😉)
Hy, what a great job. Hello from France. Kris
All i can say is DAMN, this guy has some serious talent. WOW!!!!!!!!!
Way back in the early 1970's I had a set of wheels widened by cutting and inserting a band. This was in Launceston, Tasmania - the shop that did it was very busy as most wheels back then were for tubed tyres and 4.5" rim width, with most cars having huge distance from the body to the rim. The car enthusiasts all wanted 6.5 - 7.0 inch rims and the tyres for that were all tubeless, so the welding job had to be good. Not sure what kind of equipment the shop used, but the results were perfect. It's no longer legal to run wheels widened this way in Australia.
True craftsmanship. Genius.
Excelente trabajo, felicidades para Ud MAESTRO. Desde Chile le envio un cordial saludo.
2:30 Hole spacing is measured with a digital gauge by measuring the diameter of one hole, zeroing the measurement and measuring the hole spacing between the outside tangents of the two holes. The cut-out is the size of the centers of the two holes 🙂

Excellent all round engineering skills. Great to watch.
really well done. I've seen a lot of shit on KZread so it's refreshing to see someone who has actual skills. you'll get a lot of good use out of that jig
Being said that it is an outstanding work and i have enjoyed watching his performing a lot. Thanks 👏 I have to point that making wider change all the physics, stress, tensión so as the rims shoulg had to be reinforced as new loads have to be contemplated, and i would not rely my life driving a car to its limits with that wheel, neverthelesd again a fantastic lesson on machinery. 👍
Hello and thanks for the inspiring vid. Your workshop seems to be well equiped. Wouldn't mind shedding some light on the welding and drilling machine ( brand, type, capacities, ...).
Great build. I learned something new today, thanks!
Now that's how you make a machine to make your job easier very accurate from what I can say
Just one of the things that makes this such a great channel is it teaches processes w/o saying anything, and shows people that they can do things they wouldn't have tried before. Anyway, thanks for another amazing build/video. One day I hope your time/effort ends up being noticed by someone so you'll benefit. God bless.

Amazing to watch. If you're already on the lathe for heavy duty work I would bevel the two welding surfaces about half way down, you still get half of the flat surface for alignment & much stronger welds that can be ground flat & retain strength due to the root

Parabéns, excelente trabalho, saudações aqui do Brasil...
Absolute perfection there. Big thumbs up from me👍
My son had to make a couple of wheels wider one time. We just cut a plate on the cnc to mount the wheel to an engine stand and one person held the plasma cutter and the other rotated the wheel. Of course it was not DOT approved for highway use. It was just for a 1500 hp pulling truck. That was some nice looking welds.
Great job, thank you brother. You are so talented
