To be fair to Burr, shooting Hamilton wouldn't have made his kids orphans as they still had Eliza but if Burr had died Theodosia would absolutely be an orphan and no matter how old she is or her marriage status, no father (who actually cares for his kid) would want to leave his child alone in the world when it comes to family/parents. Especially if said child was a woman in those times. He would likely be extra protective.

@@ZariDV His daughter was dead at this point anyway, wasn't she? She died in 1794 but Hamilton was killed by Burr 10 years later in 1804

Theodosias' age and that she was married doesn't matter with all due respect. Hamilton was spreading rumors that would have destroyed her reputation. this is also significant because she was married to John Alston the governor of South Carolina

I like how Jane went from liking Alexander in the beginning of these reactions to absolutely disgusted with him for cheating on Eliza and then went right back to liking him and feeling bad for him and crying for him when he died. Alexander Hamilton may have made some very VERY questionable decisions and made a lot of mistakes because he didn’t know when to shut up. But he was still a good man despite his many flaws, that help make our world in the end.

Idk if I'd call being a parasitic friend (has many friends, but is a friend to none) a questionable decision. He turned his back on Lafayette during the French Revolution, he constantly criticized Burr's cautious demeanor throughout the entire show and when Burr actually pursues his ambitions and becomes a senator, Alex plays the victim, acting like it was a personal attack that Burr ousted his father-in-law, and then when Burr chased what he wanted, like Alexander kept telling him to, Alex destroys him. Alexander Hamilton was brilliant, sure, but he was not a good man. In the show, every problem he encountered after "Take A Break" was his own fault. I mean, I personally view his fate as suicide by inaction and stubborn refusal to apologize (even if it was not a genuine apology, it would've been sufficient to avoid bloodshed.) He had a note in his pocket stating his intention to not shoot, yet he did a lot of things that would lead a reasonable person to fear for their life (wearing his glasses when he was already a skilled marksman, fiddling with his gun, which apparently was him removing the hair trigger, etc.) The only way I can consider the idea that he was not solely responsible for his own death is if Pendleton was aware of the note and failed to tell Van Ness about Alexander's intent to not shoot, because if Van Ness had been aware of it, I doubt he would've failed to tell Burr, the Vice President, about it. Nobody knows for certain whether Burr acted in self-defense, if he was aiming for a different part of Alex's body, or if perhaps his gun went off because Alexander's gun _was_ fired, aiming not at Burr. Even if Burr meant for what happened to be the outcome when he arrived in Weehawken, he was fully justified, in my opinion. Everybody has a breaking point when it comes to constantly being disrespected or mistreated by someone. In the show, the only thing that he achieved by refusing to apologize to Burr was proving Burr's free advice to be correct. He foolishly ran his mouth off and wound up dead. Hell, we still have problems that result from Alexander's attitude and policy. He is at least partially to blame for the fact that it's possible to become president without a majority of voters voting for you. Burr may have pulled the trigger when his gun went off, but Alex metaphorically loaded the gun and cocked it. (In case that paragraph that even Alexander would say is too wordy doesn't make it obvious, I am an adamant Burr supporter and if we're being honest, Burr not being blunt about his views wouldn't disqualify him in the eyes of modern voters, it would likely get him elected, because what Alexander framed as a lack of beliefs, in modern politics would be called being a moderate.)

Theodosia died on a voyage to visit her father Aaron Burr. She brought with her a bunch of papers that would have vindicated Burr, cleared his reputation. When her belongings were retrieved Aaron Burr gave some of them away to his closest friends a few years after Theodosia died. So sad.

“i’m a terrible shot” before he yelled “WAIT!” he was aiming for hamilton’s shoulder. burr panicked and once he shouted, his arm moved and he shot hamilton between his ribs

Fun fact: Burr really did say "The world was wide enough for both Hamilton and me." However, he was quoting a book, and in the book, the name he substituted for Hamilton's was a fly. He basically jokingly said that Hamilton's death mattered to him about as much as that of a fly, and then Lin really somehow turned it into an emotional MASTERPIECE. The extreme tension that is built up during the first part, then the panic during Hamilton's part, and then the sense of shock after he gets shot. I had an out of body experience the first time I listened to this song. It's literally so perfectly done it's insane.

@@metric_tundra1924 with all due respect, that's not true. Burr was wrong to return insults to Hamilton , Hamilton had been spreading rumors about Burr for years and Burr was turning the other cheek. As far as the treason accusation, i've been reading a biography on Aaron Burr. in it i found that jefferson was jealous of Burrs' growing popularity, and when Burr went into hiding, Jefferson hired Wilkinson to spy on Burr, set Burr up, cause Burr to appear as a traitor.Wilkinson was an agent for the king of spain so what happened was that Wilkinson approached Burr and said that he wanted to help Mexico gain independence from Spain, to raise an army against spain. If that happened Spain would perceive that as an act of war, and an american citizen dragging America into a war with spain, i guess could be considered treasonous . Burr had no idea what was really going on and took Wilkinson at his word. When Burr was captured Jefferson took out all communications that could make Burr appear treasonous, but all he had was very weak and not much of the letters could be read without implicating Jefferson. So the charges were dropped. you're welcome to correct me if i'm wrong God bless.

@@metric_tundra1924 i respect your opinion. I'll go over the biography of aaron burr. I recommend it, it's an interesting book.

"There's no music when the bullet is coming." That's because Hamilton says "Theres is no beat, no melody."

One thing that keeps me so sad throughout everything is that Burrs daughter was lost at sea not to much later. I can’t even imagine his pain. Killing Hamilton was the worst thing he could’ve done.

Many people said Hamilton wearing his glasses was a sing of him not wanting to fight, because during all the war part he didn’t wear glasses and started wearing them when the fighting ended. So him using his glasses was actually a “I don’t want to shoot you”

Man when ever I hear this song and who tell our story I’m always a freakin hot mess 😭 it’s breaks my heart 💔✨

That actually crazy because when I first heard the song I had no emotion to it but as soon as I saw the live musical on Disney I balled my eyes out for hours 😂

This song will always make me cry. No matter how many times I listen to it.

In high school, before I discovered the masterpiece that this show is, I took a class called "Beginning Acting", and we had to do monologues. I wish I had already been a fan of Hamilton because Alexander's legacy monologue before the bullet gets to him would've been great to do. As little as I care that Alexander died, the monologue gives me chills.

Plz React to who lives, who dies, who tells your story animatic. It' so sad

The mention of the doctor that was on site being someone that Alexander knew, plus the "pay him in advance" and "the doctor turned around so he could have deniability" made me think of a really dangerous potential situation. If one of the duelists chooses the doctor, what's stopping them from bribing the doctor to not save the opponent, and in return, the doctor keeps the money both duelists paid?

"Imagine if they'd worked together." I mean, in "Non-Stop" we saw how Alex treated Burr when they worked together, so even at that age, I doubt his narcissism would've allowed him to truly work together with VP Burr. I mean, if they did work together, Alexander wouldn't have perceived it as working together because narcissism does not go away with age. I believe he still would've viewed Burr as inferior.

I personally don't think it was anger that caused Burr to pull the trigger. I believe that if he intentionally fired, his belief that he could die was genuine, and that he fired because he feared for his life.

I take Joseph Ellis’s view on it: Hamilton probably fired first and intentionally missed, honoring his pre-duel pledge to throw away his first shot. Burr, obviously, did not know of this pledge, and by the rules of the code duello was justified in shooting and shooting to kill.

What even sadder was that him killing Hamilton destroyed his career and his daughter also died young as well. This man died alone be with no family alive...

Actually that’s not true….All of his children except for Phillip the oldest were still alive when he died, whether or not they were old or still pretty young is up in the air. Angelica Hamilton (his and Eliza’s first daughter) became mentally ill after Phillip died, and had to be sent to a mental hospital…she died in 1857. Their 2nd son James Hamilton died in 1878, their second daughter Eliza Hamilton-Holly died in 1859, their 2nd son (technically 3rd if you still count the oldest son Phillip) died in 1882, their 3rd (technically 4th) son Alexander Jr died in 1875, 4th son William died in 1850, and the last son Phillip who was named after the oldest (Eliza was pregnant with him when the oldest son was killed) died in 1884. Plus they were all there with Alexander when he died….when the news spread about him being shot, a stagecoach carried all of them to the Bayard Mansion here in Manhattan where he died. The show made it seem like he died alone just for more drama.
