40 Million Year Old EUA Island, Tonga | Tonga Vlog (2020)

Whilst we are in a time when travel is frowned upon, life must go on in a country without coronavirus. Yes - that's right. There are still countries without coronavirus. But there's only 12 of them. And I managed to get stuck in one.
** More photos and videos on my Instagram as I go through 1.5 years worth of videos and images of my accidental life in Tonga. @tongadiaries **
So after being stuck on the same island 1000x smaller than the UK for 2 months, I decided to test the waters elsewhere (pun intended).
- List of countries without coronavirus (August 01 2020) -
North Korea 🇰🇵
Turkmenistan 🇹🇲
Solomon Islands 🇸🇧
Vanuatu 🇻🇺
Samoa 🇼🇸
Kiribati 🇰🇮
Federated States of Micronesia 🇫🇲
Tonga 🇹🇴
Marshall Islands 🇲🇭
Palau 🇵🇼
Tuvalu 🇹🇻
Nauru 🇳🇷

Eua is a 3-hour ferry ride from Tongatapu, Tonga's main island. I thought the "city" here on Tongatapu was small, but after I accidentally drove through the town in Eua whilst looking for the town, I have a newfound appreciation for the 2 bars and 3 coffee shops on the one road that makes up the big city on Tongatapu.
⛰ One thing that is noticeable straightaway about Eua is the mountains. Particularly notable for me since Tongatapu is entirely flat. Like, completely flat. The mountains here aren't the biggest, but on the coast covered in the rainforest, they're pretty magnificent.
🚶‍♀️ As on Tongatapu, there's not much to really do on the island except explore.
🛑 I see one of the first road signs in Tonga in a very unlikely place!
🐷 I accidentally walk into someone's home...
🏝 I make a pretty stupid decision for a pretty impressive view.
(Worth it)
------------------ A Country Without COVID-19, You Say? ------------------
On 19th March I got stranded on Tonga, a small country in the middle of the pacific ocean with a population of 100,000.
I took a flight from Fiji to Tonga and that afternoon Fiji reported its first case of coronavirus. From then on, the rest is history - recorded on video for your enjoyment!
These corona-free diaries include lockdowns, fluffy dogos, and cyclones.
Let me know what you'd like to see more of in the comments below!
Stay safe, stay sane.

I worked on the 'Eua electrification project 1979-1983, and made the commute regularly (I had a home in both Nuku'alofa and Ohonua). This is my first "trip to 'Eua" since then. Thank you for the tour. The ferry is much larger now was my first observation, but I would often say what you observed--'Eua gets you away from the hustle and bustle of Tongatapu. I spent so many pleasant days hiking down to beaches where I was the only person, with just the parrots and flying foxes. One "interesting fact" I would add, when you were looking out across the water at the Northeast lookout, you were not only looking out across the Tonga Trench, one of the deepest spots in the ocean, you are looking out over one of the vastest stretches of water with no land between you and South America. Malo 'aupito

  • @ZoeDiscovers

Hi thanks for the question. No it's not possible to re-enter Tonga, so since the borders were closed, the government allow foreigners to stay without having to renew their visa. I'm lucky about this!

Hey, quick question, in what way is the DPRK socialist? The country calls itself socialist but I haven't seen any evidence of them actually being socialist (running by the definition of workers being in control of the means of production) have you seen any evidence of this?

Big question! It is and it isn't. It's run on an ideology called Juche ideology, meaning man is the master of his own destiny. You can read more about this big topic here; koryogroup.com/blog/which-countries-are-communist-which-countries-are-socialist
