TONGA'S famous churches in Nuku'alofa

Nuku'alofa, Island of Tongatapu, Tonga - the magnificent churches of Nuku'alofa, island of Tongatapu in Tonga, Pacific Ocean. Let's travel to Tonga in the Pacific Ocean, to the island of Tongatapu and let's visit 6 of Nuku'alofa's largest churches (on Sunday mornings) and let's experience their beautiful architecture. A wonderful tour of the stunning churches of the city of Nuku'alofa on the island of Tongatapu in Tonga, Pacific Ocean.
Nukuʻalofa is the capital of the Kingdom of Tonga. It is located on the north coast of the island of Tongatapu, in the southernmost island group of Tonga.
Tonga is a Polynesian kingdom of more than 170 South Pacific islands, many uninhabited, most lined in white beaches and coral reefs and covered with tropical rainforest. The main island, Tongatapu, is protected by lagoons and limestone cliffs. It’s home to the rural capital of Nuku'alofa, as well as beach resorts, plantations and the Ha'amonga ʻa Maui, a monumental coral gate from the 1200s.

Great video, Vic! If you happen to travel through Tonga in the future and you're interested, I suggest a visit to the chapel at Sia'atoutai Theological College, which lies outside of Nuku'alofa. It's the oldest surviving place of worship in the whole of Tonga, built in 1865 by King George Tupou 1st himself in the traditional Polynesian style. The interior wooden beams and coconut sennet ropes tying them together are mostly the originals from 1865. I also suggest a visit to the village of Makave in the Vava'u island group, where you'll come across an archaeological treasure in plain sight. Around the low walls of their local primary school, you'll find a rectangular formation of upright stone pillars incorporated into the coral rock structure. These are the remains of an old pagan temple that was dedicated to the fertility goddess Hikule'o (Si'uleo to the Samoans, Tane to the Māoris), called Fale Me'e or the House of Dancing. How ironic that they're educating children near the spot where hundreds of other kids were sacrificed in the old days.

Thank you for these interesting comments. I was on my way to Tonga in 2020 (for my second visit) when I got stuck in Fiji due to Covid-19.. I may be able to return and I have made a note of the places you have mentioned here..

Nice video but disappointed that you didn't visit Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the main Catholic church in Tonga. It is another huge building. The Free Wesleyan Church was actually built in 1952. It is the place of worship of the Royal Family and they sit in the raised seats to the left of the altar.

Beautiful video but the Free Wesleyan Church was build way back before 2010 as mentioned. It is one of the oldest churches in the country but they did some renovations for the coronation of the late King George Tupou V in 2008 and later for the reigning monarch's coronation.
