I upgraded to a 6050UB from a Home Cinema 4000 and definitely could tell the difference. Especially with the 2nd gen pixel shifting tech, also black levels and colors were a step up as well.

Wow your room has some potential for THX. 4:49 mine is only 120" but it goes wall to wall and looks the part like a multiplex cinemas I once worked for UCI and Warner Bros. I'm satisfied with the width wall to wall if it was less I be not pleased. If your room is long enough build a small narrow booth behind in the room enough to house the amplifiers and projector maybe the AVR if it is raises the noise-floor up. My room when quiet is 30dBC/A or sometimes meter drops below 30 dBA which ain't bad. My projector 4k Laser Optoma UHZ65 behind the room with tiny projection port window and the Optoma UHZ65 noise I have placed mic around it and tested on REW and I can see the resonate frequencies it is producing and can easily be improved on. They don't call it CinemaScope we projectionists call it Scope and W/S and academy ratio very rare unless playing Star Trek TOS where it has to have same height as W/S and Scope only filmed in 70mm 65mm or 35mm to 70mm blow-up, will have more height and width. So the scope in your room should be fraction less and if showing Star Trek VI the undiscovered country do it like Empire Leicester Square with masking opening and try doing like THX Sound System, with the planet exploding to make a concrete floor shimmer vibrate in the next room. You need to do another video you have been nominated for 50 more videos before end of the week. Should have brought JBL professional cinema they cost far less on ebay and that is what dubbing stages and cinema use. My THX cinema uses up to near 157 speakers. All my JBL 8330 mkII came from the famous dubbing stage, where Blade Runner was mixed at, Twickenham film studios, dubbing stage screen 2 and in fine working order and was THX ultra cheap as fish and chips, I grabbed them all on ebay. x11 for side and rear. Overhead Surrounds JBL 8330A cheap as THX ultra fish and chips. Screen channels five screen 70mm SDDS in the home JBL 4647 with JBL 2226 and JBL 2380A JBL 2445 with nice EQ turning so it sounds like best THX cinema of the past in the UK, loud and exciting without being hash on frequency sometimes I switch the Bass LF to Mute and listen with the JBL HF horns. JBL subs 4645/C left to right JBL 4682 TCB (rare) two of them one at middle front , other rear back behind the Irwin rocker cinema seats. 38.000 THX and no need to go near a digital 4k cinema unless they play 35/70mm six-track DOLBY STEREO A-type or SR in JBL THX.

excited to hear about your second 4000 and what you do up front. I have/had a similar situation where I have room for big subs on one side of my room but then needed to order more to even out room issues, makes such a big difference. I had a dip at like 50Hz and when I added my third sub I gained 10dB there lol

yeah for sure it's not ideal to have (all) of the subs in a single location in any room, but that said the captivators behind the seating is crazy good. but i will 100% add some smaller subs up front to help fill in the voids.

Since my back wall is going to be too far away (and concrete), you basically described how I was going to mount my rear (and side) surrounds, but I think now enstead, I'm just going to hang a 2x4 or similar down, and screw them in to that

I'm looking at a 6050ub for my build - I think it fits my budget best and offers the most features for the money. I keep coming across refurbished 6040ub's on various sites but they are always sold out 😕 Nice room - excited to see the progress in the next video

i think i'll end up with the 6050 too. i know someone who has inventory but they want $3699, and i've read about others getting better pricing elsewhere. i'm not in a rush, so i'll keep looking for a better deal. i would stay away from the 5040/6040, those things are notorious for power supply issue failures still today.

great point on the screen sizes vs dynamic. I run a 170'' cinema scope or a 165'' 16:9 screen and I've had a few people roll their eyes on the internet re: colour accuracy on me going for Bright Cinema mode over Cinema or sometimes dynamic in 3D. They need to understand that using a small screen like 100'' or 110'... sure u can sacrifice lumens for image accuracy. but if you want a truly cinematic experience in the home at the sizes yourself and i are aiming for.. then dynamic and bright cinema despite being less colour accurate are invaluable.

Nice update! So I might of missed it but are you going to get the 5050 or 6050 or are you going to wait and get a jvc? I also was wondering what subs are you planning to put behind the screen? If you haven't decided you should check out stereo integrity subs. The specs look pretty good. I been looking into getting them also. I called and talked to nick. Very nice guy and very knowledgeable. Looking forward to more videos from you.

if i go with the epson, i think the 6050 makes the most sense for the longer warranty & spare lamp. i'd love a jvc but they don't have the lumen output for the size screen i have & the throw distance i'm running. would have to make a lot of room changes to pull that off.

Why no LcoS/JVC? Just bought 5030UB used myself. Upgraded from Panasonic AE4000... Much better colors at higher brightness like Dynamic as well as blacks. Panasonic has practically silent iris though. Just gotta turn the volume up I guess. Also as you mentioned, you can see the pixels, as with the Panasonic (still 1080p) the pixel grid isn't as visible. Still looking at the JVCs, but they're were 3x the price used while they were similar price new!

@@Antimonkat the Sony has better color and better blacks than the Epson. The Epson is a better overall value. The JVC has the best blacks and contrast. I have an X35 and I am looking to upgrade. At $4000 I would get the Sony 295 at $5000 I'll get the JVC NX5. That is why I mentioned the Sony.

Maybe he is more of an audioholic (it is damn difficult to discern though :D). Personally I'd invest in the best projector possible way sooner than some hunking subwoofer worth about the same :D Then again, I have neighbours closer to me, so there is that.

  • @Antimonkat

the JVC isn't recommended for a screen this large (160') for good HDR because it doesn't have a high enough lumen output, it's better suited for screens 120" or less, or maybe a bit bigger if you go high gain, he has a negative gain screen ti sounds like, so also an issue for the JVC, Obvously he values value, and if his projector isn't 4-5x less performance than the 6050, the JVC certainly isn't 2-3x the performance of the 6050. Same reason I went epson, I wanted the better color volume and brightness, the larger screen handling (going 150 myself) and I'm just not ready to mentally, or physically spend/afford a $9,000 (it's actually gone up in price?, didn't is use to be $8,000?) projector, let alone convice the wife it's a good idea. For our spaces, I don't think the JVC will even perform AS good, let alone justify a $4-5,000 price premium. I'd rather put that money in to better subwoofers, new towers, a better screen, more acoustical treatments, hell even better seating. If I was going to go to JVC it would have to be the NX9 and I have even less chance of getting an $18k projector in my lifetime than I do a $9k one. Sides, at that point, I might as well go all in and get a $25k laser projector and call it end game.

@@Antimonkat Yeah maybe, but with a batcave as he has I think it could work. I don't know if watching HDR with a projector is really a good idea anyway. The 4K HDR I've watched (on 1080p projector) I've just used MadVR to convert to SDR.

  • @Antimonkat

@@rkan2 i like the idea of hdr though. I've heard watching native 4k on a 1080p display has a significant darkening of the image without a remap or processor so that might be a factor. Projectors can do hdr justice if calibrated right and a good light controlled room. No dolby vision yet though.

  • @rkan2

    @rkan2

    3 жыл бұрын

@@Antimonkat Yeah, for HDR content - if you don't do any remapping, the image will look very dark. For 1080p displays though you practically always have to do something anyway, because you cannot use newest HDCP with them anyway. MadVR is probably the best option right now. I've watched a couple 4K HDR films with it, but I have no experience of a HDR display so cannot really comment. The better bitrate and resolution definitely does make a difference though IMO.
