Kubota LX2610 Compact Tractor. Likes and Dislikes. 4 Month Review. Why I chose the LX2610 and NOT the LX3310. Kubota B2601 Comparison.
4 months and 70 Hours. I'll tell you what I like, and what I don't like, about the Kubota LX2610 compact tractor. I also discuss why I chose the LX2610 and did not choose the LX3310. I also compare some performance attributes against the Kubota B2601. I hope you find the review useful if you are buying a new tractor. Cheers!

Great review Gord, looks like you’re doing better all the time getting use to the differences between the new tractor and the one you had just gotten use to. Like children, they can be so different !! You’re doing a great job with the new tractor and by the spring thaw you’ll be operating in like you did your smaller Kubota but you’ll be a lot warmer 😉🤗 . I can’t believe the beautiful weather you’re having. Our son and family in northern Michigan, about 25 miles from the Upper Peninsula, is enjoying the weather but knows they will pay for it later too.🤣. Be safe and hope anyone whose traveling this month will be safe. Fred.👍👍👍👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I don’t know how I missed this video! Great video I love how you covered just about everything and covered all of the major differences that YOU found as a tractor owner.. this is beer important knowledge for us non B or LX owners to have who are looking at buying one because the dealer certainly isn’t gonna point this stuff out. Iv really been looking at the B2401 a lot lately.. as you know I always wanted to trade my BX in for a B2601 or 2301 but when I recently discovered they kade a gear driven 2401 that really got my blood flowing because I love nothing more than to be in perfect tune with the machine I’m using and tho a gear driven machine certainly isn’t for everyone.. a gear driven tractor has always made me feel one with the tractor and Iv always felt I could work the tractor harder and to much more potential. Some day I’m gonna go to a dealer to test drive one to see if it’s what I really want but if it goes well who knows I may end up with one some day to replace my BX. Hope your doing good buddy!

I have a B2650 cab tractor which is very similar to the LX 2610. When I first got it the transmission whine almost drove me crazy. It seems to have gotten better with time,I really don’t notice it as much. It’s still there but much better. I have found mine to have too much heat in the cab,to the point that I have actually used the AC while plowing snow. As for the windows fogging up I always turn on the AC regardless of where the temperature is set. It removes condensation. Have a good one.

Hi Gord! Thanks for the great 4-month review of your LX2610! I agree that the HST whine and lurching transmission would bother me too, but between that finely-appoint cab and it’s greater capabilities it looks like you made a great choice. Thanks for sharing and stay warm!

Great video.. I have an lx3310, I have two main complaints whining and the transmission jerk as well. I called my dealer as well.... I also had a rattle in my cab that took me days to figure out, it was the control lever for my rear hydraulic ports. Easy fix with folded over cardboard and duct tape. PHIL

Great video. After years of old junk tractors with no power steering or brakes we bought a new 25 hp L Kubota. What a dream machine. Went with manual trans. I don't like having to keep my foot on a pedel too long. Plus I push snow and some times need right or left brake. Again, great vidoe. Thanks

I’m taking delivery of my tractor next Friday. Your vids helped me decide! One thing I learned from running heavy equipment for a while was hearing protection is so important. If that much sound is getting into the cab I’ll be having mine in for sure. It’s not what you hear that can affect your hearing, it the sounds you don’t hear.

Hey Gord your videos are very informative. I am in the process of looking for a compact tractor for my 40 acre wood lot near Calabogie, ON. I started looking at the sub compacts (BX25) but your videos convince me to look at the B2601 or the LX2610. You save me a lot of leg work researching the implements as well. Your videos are much appreciated.

Just got my LX2610 cab model a few months ago. Transmission is jumpy at idle but is smooth with more rpm. The whine is always there but is much louder in reverse. Love the cab as I can bush hog on 90+ degree days in comfort. The A/C works great and it hasn’t been cold enough to need heat yet. Thanks for a good review.

I have the exact same tractor and agree 100% with your review. I do have a different radio that works perfectly with no whine or static. I had a Deere 1025r and never had an issue, this Kubota is essentially the same horsepower as that tractor but side-by-side comparison you would think the Kubota is a much larger tractor with larger frame, tires etc..., the cab is well appointed and very airtight. The LX 2610 is a rock solid compact tractor that does all I need and then some and should hold its value. I’m very blessed to have it.

I had similar issues with my tractor, not a Kubota but cabbed hydrostat. After your tractor is warmed up, check your system hydraulic pressure, and check the oil for aeration. My system pressure was on the low end of tolerance range. And my oil(Shell Rotella HD UTF), while meeting manufaturer specs was aerating badly. The dealer increased system pressure to the high end of tolerance and switched the Rotella I had put in for Mobil 424. Huge reduction in whine, and much better control responses. Thanks for your vids!!!

Great review...going from a B2601 to a B2650....I have the EXACT same “gripes” between the two models. The first thing I noticed with your first LX video was the louder HST whine. I felt the same way when I unloaded my B2650 off the trailer when bringing it home. I am also miffed with the jerky forward/rear engagement of the HST on mine compared to the 2601. I only have 20ish hours on the 2650 and sold the 2601 with a little over 100 hrs. I am hoping things free up in the next 50 hrs or so. I thought that maybe they used regular UDT instead of super UDT? I’d be interested to see if/when you change your hyd. Fluid, if the whine/engagement issues get better. That is an expensive experiment, though...Super UDT isn’t cheap and it needs a lot of it! Thanks again for the videos, they are always enjoyable! Cheers from PA!

Hi GP Outdoors... I was planning to go see my JD dealer today to get the quoting process started, but after viewing your initial review (and this one on the LX2610) last night decided to add a visit to my local Kubota dealer as well. I must say I was IMPRESSED! You have a beautiful tractor... they had one just like it on the lot and I agree with everything you've stated in your initial review. I was telling the Sales guy about your excellent 4-month review as well and forwarded him the link to this video pointing out the time-stamp where you talk more in depth about the 3 issues. I asked him for that dealership's insight as well once they review this. I'll let you know if they bestow any new wisdom on the problems. For sure a beautiful rig... probably my leading candidate right now (without seeing the official quote). Best regards.

Thanks very much Rick and congratulations on a soon to be tractor. I'd be interested in knowing if the JD's have a similar hydraulic whine. Some folks have said they do - all hydros do to some level I am learning. My transmission is certainly smoother now but I might offer that you should be able to ask to drive the models around on the lot for 15-20 minutes to test drive and hear and feel them. All the tractor companies are suffering from long backlogs and delays now so I understand that getting anything ordered in that is not on the lot is a long wait. ( I waited an extra 3 months to get mine). Good luck and let me know how it turns out Rick!

How's she goin'? Great review GP. Very open and honest I'd say. I have to say, I was hearing the whine from your tractor in your videos and was wondering about that. It maybe a 'break in' issue. It's good that you spoke to the dealer about it though as now he's aware. When I was young I had a car that had a bad noise coming from the rear end. I used to turn up the volume on the radio!!! LOL Maybe you could do that since you have the radio in the cab!!! Just sayin'... LOL Seriously though, that's a nice machine you have and like you say, very well matched to your needs. Thanks for the review and take care!!

Nicely edited and presented review. Very helpful. The whine and transmission surge definitely gives me pause, when comparing John Deere and Kubota tractors. It sure seems like the treadle pedal could be adjusted to mitigate the surge. It’s also not great to hear your dealer tell you that “oh, that’s normal behavior “, after you spent such a significant sum with them. I’m mainly looking at Kubota because of the cab availability on the Smaller LX series tractors.

  • @MattNiessen

I run a Kubota B2650 cab tractor and she exhibits the same whine. My solution is sponge earplugs. You can still hear the radio just fine and it kills about 90% of the whining noise. Like you, I chose the 26 hp engine over the 33 horse. My main motivation was to avoid the diesel regeneration system. They are expensive, and really concerned me from a future maintenance standpoint. For my property, smaller engine still works just fine, plus on longer jobs I’m using a lot less diesel I’m sure.

Nice honest review GPC! Seems like that transmission whine is pretty common in the B 2650 as well. Just my opinion, but I think the aluminum transaxle contributes to the resonance of the sound initially, and the cab does definitely amplify it. My open station L2501 does it a little, but nothing like that. I only hear it under heavy load at the start typically, which is no different than most other hydrostatic equipment I’ve used. I’d be tempted to try noise canceling headphones when appropriate. You’d still be able to hear anything major that happened but that whine would be almost gone. Not for working in the woods, especially with others, but for blowing snow it would sure cut the monotony out of it. It’s a beautiful tractor and seems to be just right for your needs, as you said. I bought the 25 hp instead of the bigger ones for the same reasons as you as well as avoiding emissions. I have plenty of power for my needs and I can see you do as well. The extra weight between models makes a huge difference in real world capability.

Thank you again for a great video sharing your review of your tractor. I own a B2650 Cab model, much the same as your LX2601. I commented a while back and asked about the whine in the cab, you didn't comment about that, and I figured you would have an opinion later. You did. My dealer says the whine is "normal", I do not agree with that. I have lined the bottom of my cab (removed and reinstalled the seat for the job) with "dynamat" sound deadener / absorbent material, and put black vinyl over the dynamat. It made NO difference. If you may be considering trying that, I suggest you don't waste your and effort. I have researched the "whine" and have heard of it getting less over time, changing the transmission oil has been said to help. I just changed my transmission oil and filters, at 236 hours to see if the whine will diminish. I don't have an opinion on that yet as I haven't driven the tractor since I changed the oil and filters. I plan to install a decibel meter app on my phone so I can measure the noise to see if I am improving the situation or not. What I did do, was install a radio and a jack for headphones. That really helps. I use 3M WorkTune headphones. I believe they also work on Bluetooth. I recently watched a video on putting spray insulation foam inside of the ROPS tube to deaden the whine noise. When I worked, I'm retired now, I was in the heavy truck heavy equipment maintenance industry. I do think there is credence to the thought of the spray foam inside the ROPS tube, or any hollow cab tube. I know from my work experience that most of the time, this type of noise often if not always magnifies through cab mounts and especially through hollow tubing. I apologize for the essay here, but again thank you for your review, and I will be working on the cab noise as I am sure you and a bunch of your subscribers will also. God bless, and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Hi Gord, My LX2610 was delivered yesterday! I have only driven it around the yard, but I do love the cab. Mine also has the whine and the transmission "Jump" like you mentioned. I had an open station L301 and that also had the whine, so I ended up getting a blue tooth headset and that took care of that issue. I'm hoping that, over time, the transmission "Jump" will go away.....We shall see. With the smaller yard we now have, I think this LX2610 will be perfect for my needs. It will be primarily used for mowing, driveway maintenance and snow plowing. I'm waiting on the delivery of my brush hog, rear work lights, third function valve kit and blue tooth radio!

Hi GP, I have 2 John Deere hydro transmission tractors. The first is a 1997 model 955 front wheel assist which is has for lack of better terminology a "mechanical linkage" transmission arrangement and a 2006 cab front wheel assist 3720 e-hydro which is an electronic transmission. The 955 transmission is nice and solid feeling with no surging or jerking of any kind - nice controlled feel through the pedals. The 3720 transmission can be slightly jerky at times, but when using the cruise control feature, its again rock solid and smooth. I've always thought the smoothness was a function of how the computer electronics receives input from the operators response in using the pedals. On a side note, both transmissions are very quiet. Each machine has roughly 600 hours use with fluid changes as prescribed by John Deere. Also, as mentioned previously, using your air conditioner will help minimize glass fogging. Thanks for another Good video

In Germany you can get insulated liners for the inside of the tractor. They have a Gray outer color to them so they really look nice once installed. They go around your dash and both sides of the tractors. They don't sell them here in the U.S. yet but was told they will. Cost a little but they do happen the sound. Most of the sound comes from the dash. Not the windows.

But as everyone and you has said about how it has the whining noise.. Yup.. Has done it from the very beginning. Don't remember how many hours on it . Still the same. Over all I like the tractor.. Jeez Gordy! I upgraded to the b2601 this year from a bx24 because of you. You said I’d get more capability, and your right, but...... I don’t really like the joystick response of the loader compared to the bx but maybe it will get better with time. I also find it harder to see the leading edge of the bucket. My other 👎 is the light backend, have a hard time lifting much. I should’ve had the back wheels filled with fluid, still might. I did order a heavy hitch with 8 80# suitcase weights and that seems to help. I did appreciate the video you did a while back on the subject. Greetings from eastern Ontario. Another great video. My only regret on my L4060 is that it doesn't have a cab. Thought about it but a cab model wouldn't fit in the garage. I think over time you will not notice the hydro whine kinda like living near a train level-crossing. After awhile .....what train. Another point in favour of the LX2610 is no DPF regen. My JD 2038R made terrible whining for the first 50 hours or so. I changed the filters and fluid, just as the JD PM schedule suggested and found a small plastic wrapper in the filter (was hoping this was my issue, but nope). Eventually I think I became accustomed to the noise. The sound certainly is unsettling, and you would think engineers would have worked this problem out by now. Thanks for the great videos!

One way to get rid of that transmission noise is to crank that radio up a notch or two. 😂😂 On a serious note that noise is common on many of the sub compact tractors. The Kubota's enclosed cab is so smooth (basically a glass box), coupled with no way for the sound to be absorbed it's bound to hear all that noise. I have taken larger cab tractors for a ride and they're much quieter. I use "Fluid Film" on the pedal pivot points, the ones that are not greaseable. That helps with smoother pedal operations. As always, l love your videos, love the comments from others.

GP, I have the same tractor just in an open station. I do agree with you about the whine, I’m getting used to mine. But the transmission jump you talk about, I don’t have that on my LX2610. I live in North Carolina so I’m not sure if it is because of the hotter weather here but my tractors transmission is smooth like you talked about on your old tractor. Just some info I’m passing along.

Very nice job on the review! Kubota does make a good product. I would try and reach out to Neil at Messicks Farm Equipment here in Pennsylvania about the transmission issues. I know you have spoken with your dealer about it, but in the past Messicks has come up with solutions (adjustments) to issues of various things on their own without help from the factory :)

My J.D 3025e also a 25 h.p. and the biggest reason i went with this was no emissions or DPF which I think most issues have been resolved. Had i went with more h.p. it would've had the DPF and would've needed the required def fluid. I believe your hydraulic squaw is getting lessened by time. Still, its new and you'll have it a long time to come. It'll get better with age. Its a very nice tractor GP and the cab was a great choice.

Test drove a B2650 cab when they first came out and I couldn’t believe how loud the hydro wine was. Decided right then and there not to get a cabbed Bx50. Pretty sure it’s the cab enclosure making it much louder then the open station models. Buy the way, I use to spend a lot or time on TractorByNet and recall a thread where a lot of Kubota owners filled there ROPS with foam or some other sound dreading material and almost all said it cut the wine down significantly. Believe they had to take the ROPS off to do it though.

Outstanding video report! I could sense the pain in your voice at the end of this video when you highlighted the two problems with the tractor. Many of us have been there over the years when we bought machines with issues. Nothing like paying good money and getting a product with problems but this is still a very good tractor. Honestly, I was going to buy this very tractor next week (Messick's Equipment) but now I am going to hold off for awhile and perhaps think about something else. Maybe I'll consider a stick shift. I already have a B3030 with a backhoe and a few green tractors and a 522xi red tractor so I am in no hurry to add another tractor. Good luck with your tractor. John C Wilkes-Barre, Pa

Planning on getting a lx2610 in November of this year. Hoping to start a small lot brush clearing service with it. One note on the hydro drive system. I have a zero turn that when first purchased the whine was louder than the deck in operation. After about 50 hours and first service,(went back with amsol hydro oil) the drives are much quieter. Think they just had to wear in. I do not think there is a whole lot of difference mechanically between the systems, basically a pump and motor, just more things running on the hydraulic system on the kubota.

To further the fogging comment a few days ago, always make sure the cab air intake is set on fresh not recirculation. Pretty much all automotive heating systems since the 80's, and maybe before, cycle the A/C compressor when in defrost to dry the air(also keeps compressor from sitting idle for the winter and seizing) and also on newer vehicles cancels the recirculation function to prevent operator from selecting it.

Loved the video - extremely informative, and you have a great presentation style. I'm trying to plan ahead for my purchase as I'll need a tractor on my land once I build my house next year and I like the look of your rig - what are the length and height of the LX2610 with the snow-thrower on the front and the blade on the back? I'd hate to build a garage with a door too small to hold the tractor. I'm selling my truck and will be hitchin' rides with the misses. It's all about the planning...

I realize they're different tractors, if I was just listening to this video and did not know what tractor was on it, I would have swore the noise was coming from an Emax25. I do not have that same jumping to the transmission though , I found it to be very smooth. Just some thoughts, great video ,have a good day.. PS. LOL! Thanks Matt. From reading the comments, I am realizing this is common for hydrostatic tractors. You'll love the blower I am sure, and you'll do great with it! Keep it in 4WD, low range, full engine RPMs (full PTO RPM unless your manual says otherwise) and if you hear the engine RPM dropping while you are blowing, it means you are pushing too fast into the snow (loading the blower too much) so just ease off a bit on your speed and slow down. :)) And bring a coffee with you. Cheers!

Change your trans/hyd fluid. I know the manual says only filters on the 50 hour service, but I had read and watched people suggest changing the fluid at the initial service. I did and it did make a difference with the whine. I will also wear headphone/hearing protection. This gets me tunes, if I want, and cuts out the remainder of the noise. You did it on your open station, do it on this one, too.

I recall reading on a forum somewhere that they were talking about that whine (apparently it's on other models like the BX, too), and one person said they found a different brand of hydraulic fluid got rid of, or at least lessened the noise. Might be worth looking into. I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but I want to say they used the new-holland hydraulic oil. Obviously, make sure it's acceptable viscosity and what-not, before changing it.

Greetings from Wisconsin! I still remember thinking this was the perfect tractor for you. I think I'd still go with my L2501 because I've only have 7ft garage doors, and I'll never give up my heated shop or my other 3 car garage for my implements. I've got the same whine from my hydraulics, but I'll say my L2501 is super smooth in operation. The "lack of feel" on implements is so spot on, I see the work it is doing, but am amazed how I don't feel it. I run huge implements and just added 3" wheel spacers, I'm currently making homemade tire chains, which I love how they're turning out. I think the biggest downfall of these compact utility tractors are their narrow rear ends. I couldn't imagine the top heavy feel with a cab. Well I've rambled again. Take care

Spray foam inside the rops/cab posts will help reduce the whine seems to be the common answer I have found from others online. It appears the wine is a common sound with the hydrostatic transmission and the sound seems to resonate louder though the hollow tubes and posts of frames and rops/cab posts. I know its really loud with b26 tlb with the 4 post rops/fops I'm thinking I'm gonna try putting some spray foam inside the posts when I get a chance also.

When I started following your page a couple months ago, that was the first thing I noticed was that loud “whine” of the tractor. I dont know if it’s normal or not. I know some dealers with tractors or even vehicles, will keep telling the customer it’s normal in hopes the warranty runs out before it’s a problem. Also at garages, warranty work will sometimes be put off to the lowest mechanic because warranty work repairs doesn’t pay as much as it’s a set price with the hours needed to repair it is in a “factory manual”. If the mechanic runs into any unseen problems that take longer, the company does not pay for that. The company only pays what their manual repair says it should take in hours. That’s why mechanics don’t want to do warranty work and hand it down to lowest. It’s a shady deal all around. I do like kubotas though, that orange is very sharp.
