well bout recycle thing....actually some state at malaysia have started 3-4 yrs ago not giving plastic bag for your grocery anymore.some state has start the recycling program from the house..but as you know some people is hard to change their ways.but i'm sure malaysian starting to get to the program.for the garbage you see in the street...mostly is a foreigner doing.as you can see many in KL is not local people.some are from various country like indonesia,philipines,bangladesh,pakistan and etc.

I'm Malaysian living in Malaysia. Personally I have started to collect my household plastic items (and food cans, drink cartons, glass bottle, etc.) and send them to recycling center at IPC Shopping Centre every weekend. Save the Earth guys 🌏

I think lot of Malaysian doing recycle, bring bag when we shopping.,... Sometime rubbish you see not really from Malaysian citizen, as Malaysia have lot of foreign worker,,,, If you go to local housing area, everyone will make sure their envoinronment is clean and tidy too.

@@notsniw135 plastic and tetrapak recycling is virtually nonexistent. Best to just not use plastic with lifestyle change. Glass, paper, aluminium does get recycled.

The American said "Everything is ok in Thailand as compared to Malaysia is not ok because of a Muslim country". If the Malaysian government and the Malaysian people promotes sex tourism, drugs (cannabis, weeds, marijuana), hot nightclubs with strip tease and half naked bar girls, I am sure Malaysia would get the number of tourists as many as that in Thailand. Then Langkawi beach would be Pattaya beach, Penang would be Phuket, Sg Wang Plaza would be Nana Plaza, Wolo Bukit Bintang would be Soi Cowboy , Changkat Road would be Khaosan Road, Langkawi would have a Ms Tiffany pageant show incorporated with the Lima show and the list would go on and on. Gautama Buddha sat under a Bodhi tree to fight Maya (illusion) and look at Thailand now promoting Maya to another level. The Thai people and the Thai government have the right to do what they think is good for them and surely the Malaysian people and the Malaysian government would have the same right to decide on what is best for themselves. So, if the American wanted to show half nakedness as his attire, it is his personal attire and he can't blame others for not accepting his attire. (From Singapore)

Tourist who come to Malaysia should obey the rules here and respect the culture and people here.. dont expect us to be like you.. why coming to another country to experience the same thing from your or other countries. You are not the first Singaporean who I saw the comments saying like Thai government promote sex tourism when in fact prostitution is illegal in Thailand so how the Thai government can promote that?😂 sex industry can happen in Thailand because of corrupt police and bad at law enforcement, no government officers can promote it. Government can’t get the tax from sex workers since it’s illegal, but because of bad law enforcement it’s basically became free trade zone, tax free for sex workers. Btw way in Singapore also have legal prostitution but in restrict zone while in Thailand prostitution is still illegal🤣 About the weed, it’s actually not pass the vote as national law, but only ministry of health law, the ex health minister just used his power to pass the law. We still hope that new government can fix this problem. And from the info, there are more female tourists than the male tourists, so saying like Thailand has many tourists just because sex tourism is kinda not true, there are many people, girls, boys, travel alone or in group as you can search their vlog in KZread, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese etc. they travel for food, nice cafe and restaurants, luxury hotel, nice roof top bar, massage and spa, shopping, temple etc. Thailand is a place that have everything ( food, accommodation, Heath care) from cheap on street to high class, luxury, expensive ( but still affordable when you are from richer country) there are high class hospital that decorate like luxury hotel with good doctors, their customer are rich Thai and the westerner, arab, many of them travel to Thailand for medication.

Well certainly overrated is never good but I don't like Malaysia to be underrated. If you choose to be underrated it means that u are complacent. This is a globalized world and we should strive to be well known as a great country. We shouldn't be overrated or underrated. We should be top rated.

The beach area being underdeveloped is maybe a really good thing. I dislike seeing big corporations taking over once beautiful places and turning them into tacky touristy places ie koh samui

Hate is a big word. But I also don’t like it! 🤭 hopefully the government keeps the beaches for small businesses mainly 😊

I'm Singaporean and i think the whole speech about plastic and recycling is relevant even to my country. Even though our government has implemented measures to encourage people to bring their own bags when they go to the supermarkets and encouraging good recycling habits, overall I still think it's not going to do much in terms of reducing plastic usage. We need to come up with a biodegradable plastic or some material that can mimic plastic. I mean i personally find it very hard to throw away trash and food waste without wrapping them up in a plastic bag so i dont know. Maybe someone could give me a better suggestion? 🤷 Btw, great video. I miss KL. I hope Singapore and Malaysia will proceed with the KL/SG HSR project because then i can go visit KL all the time. 😂😂 As convenient and quick as planes are, I still find them quite troublesome to deal with when it comes to making last minute trips. Buses and cars on the other hand just take too long you know.

Nice one mate. I thing the problem plastic is everywhere. As citizens we can only help a little bit but it really comes down to the big men and women in charge. Not only in Malaysia but all over the world. We really it shouldn’t be so easy to produce plastic in the first place. Related to the plastic everywhere. Honestly, through my experience as a Malaysian, almost people throw away the plastic is not Malaysian. Almost they are workers from outside of Malaysia. That's the problem we must facing. Yes, to educate them is impossible, they are not student, they are workers. I think, maybe we must has a campaign to educate everyone and ask to collect back their garbage if we see it. Now, people almost just ignore what happened around them. They just ignore people who throwing the rubbish everywhere. If we start asking them to collect it back, it will be a good culture, and at the end it will be a good mindset for everyone.

I did go to Japan with my son. Japanese are not friendly, some stare at you probably because of our tan skin. In the train the young dont give me a seat even though I am a senior, they just look at their phones. Walking on the pavement is dangerous because you have to compete with cyclists. I once saw a young man smoke a cigarate and threw it on the pavement but was picked up by a homeless.

Malaysia does not Push for tourism because not our main revenue earner. Secondly, over tourism ruins the locations too, we locals need to relax at the same spot. Thirdly, malaysia also has many foreign migrant workers especially kl. So we tried to clean , but they kept throwing. Some locals also litter.

@Chai_Travel the truth is they threw more than locals. You can see them doing it while cycling too(domestic trash). Just do not understand them. You should see kl during eid holidays when locals return to hometown. It is well documented, i am not lying. The Bangladeshis are the main culprits as they occupied downtown during eid holidays. Full of rubbish when malaysians return to work.

@byteme9718 it is not copy they already do that in Dhaka long before they enter this country. Same with other migrants. And if you read carefully my bloody message, I did say some Malaysians are litter bugs. But most of the time, it is the migrants.

Agreed. He is a party animal. He gets annoyed when people do not talk to him. Guess what? He is walking in Changkat Bukit Bintang, a party place for foreigners and migrant workers to work. That street does not represent Malaysia. It is a tourist place and you are served by migrant workers. Malaysian are minority on the street.

The 2nd gentlemen has a very valid point when it comes to littering and usage of single use plastic items. I must say that things have been improving in the recycling and eco-friendly topic in Malaysia, just that it's not improving fast enough, and our education system has not been highlighting this topic enough! I literally LOLed when the gentleman in red spoke about people not being as approachable in KL because people are worried about scammers 😂 I felt that personally, I'd greet random people in my neighbourhood but not on the streets because I'd get weird stares, it's just not really the norm in KL. Tho its a different story in smaller areas around the country, people are more relaxed, esp the elderly ;) But trust me, you'll experience a whole different reality when you're asking for help, people will extend their help whenever possible 😊

The red shirt guy is the best person you interview ever.. honest and straight to the point. It's a quality interview. He's show you the nearest plastic garbage on the spot.. we need more people like this guy. And thumbs up to you!..

I like going to Malaysia every year since 13 years ago, because: 1. plane tickets to KL are cheaper than to domestic 🇮🇩, 2. no visa is needed for fellow ASEAN, 3. food and drinks are delicious and cheap even in Suria KLCC - prices are controlled, 4. the city is neatly arranged, 5. a Malay family. But you still have to be wary of pickpockets and thieves, because not everyone lives well enough.

To say that malaysia feel more safe than most places in europe make me happy. But true though, most europe country have a lot of demo and protest of their citizen toward their country. In malaysia, we do have some protest but not as extreme and still in a safer way. And you are right, there is no stabbing or dangerous crime like in europe or america.

consider the criticism to be good thing not to hurt you, I hope the government sees a video like this, it's true that all countries are not perfect but we must strive to improve to be better than before

Try to stay a week in low cost flats in downtown KL and you'll understand why many Malaysians choose to move out from those flats (eventhough they hv financial issues). Main reason because of they can't stand living within the same building with immigrants (legal & illegal). Those immigrants really have issues with cleanliness and manners. Imagine they throwing rubbish out of windows from say 15th floor down to ground floor! Not to mention spitting everywhere and peeing in the lifts! Screaming and partying till 2-3am! Malaysians are not racist, but please understand what some of us have to bear with some of these immigrants that do not respect our people, our culture, our religion and our country!

Hope our government or tourism department watch it. To me Bangkok is more enteraiment and happening, but Kuala Lumpur is more relax, safe and good for retire city.( to me)

Second person said that malaysia is not friendly. I think it depends on your luck and the one that you meet. Most of foreigners that talk about malaysia said that the people is very friendly. But i agree when he said the advertisement for malaysia tourism is a bit slow. In 2019 kl is in top 5 most visited city. Imagine if the advertisement about malaysia is like thailand, people will know more about malaysia and visit the city a lot more.

He is roaming around Changkat Bukit Bintang, Malaysian are a minority on that street. Even Jalan Alor, it is a place for tourist, all these places are served by migrant workers, not Malaysian.

I think, the issues that concern the good, bad and ugly are everywhere around the world. For example, theft incident that happened to the Spanish guy. When I was in Spain, 1996, soon as we arrived in Madrid, we met our travel guide, we went straight to Seville. At the Atocha Train Station, a very beautiful station by the way, our tourist guide warned us of pickpocketing. He spoke too soon back then, as we were going down to the platform, one of a lady in our group, shouted for help as someone stole her wallet, and it seemed that the pickpocketers worked in a group of 3 people. What a start for our journey to Andalusia, Spain. But, I fell in love with the beauty in Spain. I'm pretty sure, the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe are beautiful too.

Maybe people from California should focus on cleaning up the homelessness, needles, and feces on the streets from that place first before criticizing other countries. Malaysia is a country that takes its culture and laws seriously that is why people love to visit and live there from all over the world ! If you have a communication problem in the friendliest country in the world - you should probably look within first.

Kuala Lumpur (KL) is a cosmopolitan, highly developed, multicultural and pretty clean city.

Its not we dont promote, its that we lacked person who can pushed. The ministry is basically dead.

Just a note. Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Lanta, Krabi have a large population of Muslims. Many work in tourism. No problem there. No problem with Muslims here too like in Langkawi, Sabah, Sarawak and Penang with tourism. My personal opinion is that alcohol is expensive here to party. For the party lovers that is. But hey, there are other things to enjoy here😊

I think is easy to buy alchohol in Malaysia, especially city , just the price compare europe or other country, Malaysia more expensive.but we still enjoy alchohol , wine everyday.

That's why it called "Malaysia Truly Asia". We have Unique wonders, attractions and cultures. Medical tourism is popular in Malaysia and ranks among the best providers of healthcare in all of South-East Asia. If you like partying, clubbing, getting naked and drunk, sorry.. Malaysia is NOT the place.

I think its ok if our tourism board dont aggresively promote us. I dont want Malaysians to turn into Thailand with the beaches filled to the brim with tourists. Its better to stay underrated and let real travellers come discover us.

Gentleman in red/orange - can't compare KL with Bali. KL is a cosmopolitan city while Bali is a resort island. And as for me KL born and bred I love the fact that we're underrated, unpopular and overlooked compared to Bangkok or other SEA cities. Shhhhh don't tell anyone about us - hate crowds! We're Asia's best kept secret.

Top video and two awesome interviews. Both so much to offer however the 2nd guy from Japan nails it 100% especially the garbage issue and recycling. The powers that be in Sydney are phasing out the use of plastic bags, utensils, straws etc and push the recycle issue big time providing specific garbage bins for general waste, papers and cardboards and bottles and cans and it is reliant on its community to practice what is preached. Sadly we have individuals that simply do not care and that would be the issue world wide. Is there any evidence in the S E Asian countries of these practices being implemented? One would like to hope so :) Then of course there are the climate change issues. Specific to the purpose though of the video and, in particular Malaysia, not much there in the negatives, mostly good reports but, yeah, employ people to clean up and strategically locate garbage bins. They work if they are visible because people will use them once educated. Up to the governments of the countries world wide to promote and even instigate on the spot fines for littering. Great work Chai. 🤩

Thanks Steven :) I do see that there is definitely some recycling happening here and there but it’s definitely not nearly enough. I’m afraid that it only helps a little bit to recycle but it definitely helps so hopefully we all can do our part 😊🏆 cheers mate

South Thailand coastal areas used to be part of the Malay states back in 1909 before British and Siamese Kingdom signed a treaty without the Malay Sultans presence. Malay Pattani (as an example) was a Malay majority and had a kingdom of their own prior to that treaty (the fall of Malay States in South Thailand initiated by colonists). 😢😢

I think not promoting the beaches is intentional. Govt doesn’t want sun bathing tourists if u know what I mean.

I think the red shirt gentleman makes a good point regarding marketing of tourism. Obviously you don’t want a place to be overrun by tourists but at the same time it provides a great boost for the economy. Malaysia is such a beautiful place in terms of natural beauty and culture and I feel like not enough is done to push that out.

Education , Education , take your bags to shop and keep using .....

To the japanese man in red shirt, I think not many trying to have chat with you is because you look like a local. I think it is due to Asian genetic where malaysia has diverse ethinic so your face really look like any local person. As a Malaysian, we expect another local to have their own direction where they want to go. We dont interrupt much of their lives unless they want to. So, for your case, you need to start to speak and tell them you are not from here, I believe people will start to chat with you a lot.

He is in a place that does not represent Malaysia, he is in Changkat Bukit Bintang. That is a tourist spot, most of the service workers are migrant workers too. Malaysian are the minorities here. His interaction perhaps is with the foreign workers. In Thailand and Bali, only the local serve you, unlike Malaysia. Just next to Changkat Bukit Bintang, the whole place is populated by Middle Eastern. Ask any Malaysian, do we like it. Nope, we don't, and we cannot do anything about it. The real estate rental is just too high for Malaysian.

Malaysia may not be the favourite country for west tourist to travel as compared to Thailand. Malaysia's government give less attention in promoting the country to the world. But Malaysia country remain among the top tourist from the Arab Countries to visit. Muslim friendly country, halal food and prayers room is easily to be found in everywhere.

Whoever litters here, please change your mind to respect nature's flora and fauna..be a little mature, don't think about yourself. I'm Sorry Because I'm Very Emotional

Stop generalising! Malaysian are improving a lot already my dear! I am a Malaysian entrepreneur. I always go to my client office in Melawati, they hv ramps at the lobby for wheelchairs, they hv special toilets for disabled, they have special areas for disabled in musolla/surau!

The American got the recycling facts very wrong saying that the third world countries should follow the US way of recycling. The biggest polluter of plastic waste is the USA and followed by other rich nations. Initially, plastic waste from these rich nations were shipped to China for recycling and when China said no more of this waste, the recycling had moved to South East Asia including Malaysia. @@Chai_Travel none of them..kuala lumpur basically lost its authenticity and polluted with foreign workers 😆..and bukit bintang is the example..when you say its the nicest place,perhap you see much entertainment,streetfood,towering residents,pub,bars,shopping malls..and some hookers walking around on the street at nite 🤣...i call it nicest if it can compete with Sukhumvit or khao san road 😅

I can’t agree more. Lets recycle and insist that sellers use recyclable packaging or bags etc as much as possible!! Plastic rubbish is truly very bad. Also please please please stop using polystyrene cups, foams etc. Really bad for the environment. Recycle whenever there is an opportunity!

Sadly many of these Asian countries do not have Garbage cans to throw candy wrappers in, so the people feel they have no choice, but to litter.

How about Keeping it in your pocket until you reach home? If you can keep the candy wrapper in your pocket when there is candy in it, why can’t you keep it when it is empty?

The guy may have Japan citizenship but he is not Japanese, neither he looks or speaks like one. He hardly mentioned anything about Japan. His brother is from California, most likely he is an American origin. Info error from Chai? Basically, he is a party animal, walking around Changkat Bukit Bintang, a party place for foreigners. Malaysia do not promote itself as a party place as like in Thailand and Bali. Can't compare apples with oranges. That area, Changkat Bukit Bintang and adjoining area Jalan Alor, Malaysian are the minority there, Malaysian do not go to these places. It is a tourist packed area and all the service workers are migrant workers. Unfriendly? Perhaps from the migrant workers.

@Chai_Travel I watched the video a few times to come to my conclusion. As I said, he has a Japan citizenship, the way he speaks, he is not Japanese(culturally). He only mentioned beaches on Hawaii and Long Island, which is in US. How about Okinawa? I am disappointed with migrant workers in the service industry, Malaysian does a better job, mainly due to communication breakdown. Especially in the food industry, their knowledge of hygiene is much lesser.

Actually too many tourists coming to the country may somehow affect the beauty of the Nature, that was what happened in Maya Bay, Thailand. Worse a number of them did not even respect the local cultures & custom like what happened in Bali, Indonesia. Malaysia love FDI but they also want to be tactful when it comes to foreign tourists.

It's nice if the worse thing about a city people can say is they one got pickpocketed, and not to wear a tank top! 555. Re the plastics, it's like global warming, so hard for one person to do anything. I use my own bag and recycle when the opportunity exists, but who is to say that recycling bin isn't then tossed into the ocean. One thing needed is a change in culture on a large scale. In Thailand for example, they will give you something that is in a plastic container already... then put it in a plastic bag! Courteous I guess but the wrong thinking.
