The first uncle, respect his opinion, but his opinion just stays with him..if you don't mingle around, blame yourself, don't involve others...as a Malaysian, there should be not a time in your entire life, that you don't get involve with other people from different backgrounds...you could have interactions with people from another races as your neighbor, friends at school, your teacher/lecturer, street hawkers, government officials etc etc...don't tell me you grow up ONLY among Chinese community and ONLY do business with them, then you should know where is the problem... Anyhow, his opinion still a valid one, he can only speak of his view and experience...not entirely wrong..A proof that people like him exists among Malaysian. In fact, such uncle exists in every nation and societies...so let's cherish it..

Actually I can understand why the uncle didn't mix with other races. I worked in government hospitals, I encountered many old folks who were indian and chinese who couldn't speak Malay despite their whole life in Malaysia. Moreover, if you look at the demographics, many neighbourhoods have predominantly a certain race, that's why they don't have chance to mix with other races.

Certainly would not be as easy interviewing locals and the appropriate line of questioning compared to that to the tourists so very well done with that Chai. Mixing it up nicely with an excellent, varied range and the locals were responding well. Mostly positive vibes as you would expect from people very proud, as they should be, of their country which is so culturally diverse and they certainly appear to co-exist (mainly) with respect. Such happy and friendly people proud to be involved in promoting KL and Malaysia generally! Great watch this, Awesome!!

Perhaps, if you could get hold of more educated Malay, Chinese and Indian in Malaysia, then you'll probably get a more accurate perspective being a Malaysian. Otherwise, you'll get a typical views being a Malaysian, not really encompassing and telling the true story of living in Malaysia.

For me, jalan alor is expensive. But if you earn more, no problem going there. KL is not as clean as singapore for sure. The burden of having so many south Asian migrants in the city( some undocumented) is making waste management more difficult. In singapore, foreign workers are placed in specific areas or hostels. Here they live in shoplots and apartments where locals live. So there is cultural conflict especially hygiene

Totally agree with you. Singapore is the best example to follow on how to manage foreign workers. How I wish our gov can be stringent about this as well. The problems created by foreign workers are worsening day by day.

Hi Chai, the slaughter house statement made by the uncle is way expired these days as I personally find Jalan Alor street food vendors are pretty fairly priced. All of them have a menu with pricing stated clearly, and all are trying to be competitive in the face from stiff competition in the area. So nope, I disagree with the uncle on that point and that the fact that most Malaysians mixed around with other races makes his statement rather strange too. As of tourist areas, business owners nowadays are aware that any kinda of over pricing practises are detected, the news will go viral, and the bosses don't want to deal with that. I have a feeling the uncle is still stuck way back in time i guess. Lol😂

Heya Chai, good morning. I am interested in the statement made by the first uncle who said that the communities in Malaysia mostly do not socialize with each other and only interact within their own ethnic groups. Honestly, I partially disagree with this statement. I feel that it may be just him, I guess it doesn't apply to all Malaysian. In my family, both my parents had many friends from different ethnic backgrounds during their youth, and the same goes for me. When I was a child, I lived in a Malay residential area, and when I was 7 years old, I attended a national school. There, I had many friends from various races, ethnicities, and religions. Due to this, many Malaysians could understand more than one language. Just like my parents, who fluently can converse in English, Cantonese, Urdu, and Tamil and of course our national language Bahasa Malaysia and I can speak Bahasa Malaysia, English, rusty Cantonese/ Mandarin. This is because we have a lot friends and the ability to communicate across ethnic lines contribute to a more interconnected society in Malaysia.

Not everyones prefer city life. I mean some peoples would prefer sub urban..or even countrysides..kampungs etc. I know many peoples in kL do not go to city center..unless if they have important things or job to be done ..perhaps due to traffic jam and pollution of noises..hectic life or environment etc ..some peoples might prefer pristine life and serenity in countrysides etc..

most of local don't really prefer live in KL if you ask many of them, they would prefer live in less busy city or some of them will say they prefer prefer to stay at east or northern of malaysia. me pesonally as malaysia which living in for more than 20 years would prefer to go back to my hometown in east malaysia after retired.

I had converted my foreign driving license recently into Malaysia driving license without any hassle(Note: contry who issued my foreign driving license are right hand drive, similar to Malaysia) You will need a certified copy of your driving license from the country that issued you such driving lisence, then you fill in a form from JPJ ( Malaysia transport department )to request transfer foreign driving license to Malaysia driving lisence, after you submitted the form, the JPJ will issued you a receipt to collect the Malaysia driving license within 30 days. For those who hold left hand drive license, I am not sure what are the procedure.

I was wondering why the guy have problem converting his driving licence. Apparently, he is from Argentina maybe its one of the reason. I am a Malaysian but got my licence in the Us during my late teen college years there. Might be we only recognize American and EU based licence now.

Theres a lot malaysia need to improve in term of economies, i am malaysian . I do love my country in term of cultures n religion tolerance , foods , weather and places to explore etc. But to be honest i as an adult living in malaysia and specifically stayed in Kuala lumpur in 5 years more less to work, feel that .. our economy equal to expenses in KL not really good especially for a middle class person here and i work for 12 hours a day to get better good money that i can afford foods and rent in KL . Rental is so expensive if u work normal job and work in Kl u need a better income or else u just living to work and no life . I will say malaysia have bad side in term of living life balance many people getting depress with small income, hard to get job and cant afford cost of living nowadays hopefully malaysia will improve in term of economy .

Kl is a big city, ppl are from different background and social economical status. Dont assume every msian is good ppl or friendly without intentions. Big cities like kl, ppl are relatively more realistics, no money no talk. No doubt cost of living is cheap compared to europe, us, australia, singapore, hk, japan etc. I guess thats why some ppl from these countries like it here so much.

What I don't like in Malaysia, too much politics. After the election is held and the government is formed, leaders and people should forget politics and unite to develop the country. But not in Malaysia, politicians who failed to form a government continuously played on racial sentiments, as if they did not like the country to be in a state of peace and the people to develop their respective economies. Politicians are seen as just bouncing around for power, fighting for positions but the service is not necessarily good.
