3 Things About 'The Truth' | An Errol Spence Jr Breakdown

Go Here to Download Your Book - www.myboxingcoach.com - An Errol Spence Jr breakdown, focusing on the 3 boxing style traits that I think mark out 'The Truth' as a serious operator in the boxing world. The Spence Jr boxing style is a very interesting mix of offense, defence and tactical awareness.

Errol Spence Jr, welterweight and super welterweight champion of the world, 135 amateur bouts, Golden Gloves champ, national champion and Olympian. Spence Jr has been well-schooled in boxing from a very early age.
This history in the sport makes Spence Jr a really smart operator, and there are 3 areas that I focus on in this video.
1. Stance and Form
Errol Spence Jr is a southpaw with his body weight generally centred or on the rear leg. This is a defensive posture even though Spence Jr spends a lot of time in offense mode. The odd thing to me is that Spence Jr does not really apply traditional southpaw tactics.
2. Long Range Work
At long range Spence Jr makes use of simple jabs and looping back hands. His jab is extremely well executed - hard, precise and fast. His long range work is geared toward him building the strategy up to get to close range and do damage.
3. Trench Fighting (Close Range)
Spence Jr is a great exponent of brutal but skilful close range work. He's not a big combination puncher, but is high volume. He uses single and two punch combinations, whipping hooks and uppercuts from the body to head and back again. Spence Jr is the human equivalent of blunt force trauma. He has a fantastic engine, is strong and has great endurance.
The Errol Spence Jr breakdown comes down to one central aspect - he makes opponents work incredibly hard, and he keeps them working hard. He will keep you going and ultimately bring you to close range to bring those heavy hooks and uppercuts to bear.
Cheers
Fran

Great video fran, love Spence. Another big thing with Spence is he never loads up, he just keeps a pace that drowns others, a bit like Roman Gonzalez

An upcoming fighter to watch out for if you love the infighting style is Subriel Matias. Not a great range fighter, but his close range work is like unlike anything I've ever seen. Keep up the great work coach!

Great video coach Spence is one of my favourite fighters and as you say he is a very simple and basic fighter that does everything exceptionally well . Very calm, defensively sound and can break down good opponents consistently.

I’m rewatching the Spence Brook fight and the biggest difference early on is the consistence of Spence’s stance. He rarely breaks the distance between his front and rear leg where as Brook is kind of all over the place

For those striving to master Okinawa’s way of the empty hand, it is the unrelenting pursuit of physical movement free from conscious thought that lies at the heart of what we do. We aspire to move lightly and yet hit hard, blend instinctively with the incoming energy of a determined attack, and remain calm when all around is in turmoil. Is it any wonder then that reaching such a state of physical and mental balance takes, at the very least, a lifetime.

Thanks for explaining to plain boxing how Spence Jr.'s offense and defense bc most ppl are going with the trend that Crawford is much better.

Great video analysis Fran. If you were Crawford, what strategy would you deploy against Spence? Do you think both fighters will have to change and adapt during this fight?

Don’t confuse a rip current with an undertow. Rip currents are much more dangerous, because they flow on the surface of the water, can be very strong, and can extend some distance from the shore. An undertow can occur when water sinks back downhill into the sea after a wave has carried it uphill onto the beach. Unless the beach has a steep incline, the undertow will probably not be very powerful. However, if the tide is high, the wave is large, and the beach slopes sharply downhill toward the water, the undertow could be strong enough to knock you down, but it won’t carry you far-maybe just far enough to get smacked by the next big wave coming in

Hello coach Good video about Errol Spence Jr's boxing style and hopefully it's gonna be a great fight against another greatest welterweight boxing champ Terence Crawford. May the best wins By the way, could you please do a video about how to be an offensive-minded fighter (swarmer/pressure fighter/brawler/puncher)

What a really good question. I think the core elements would i.e. gradual movement (but to the lead leg side) and high guard ready to defend incoming backhands. The body weight distribution is a key element too. So, in general I think the answer is yes.

@@myboxingcoachokay thanks. But when you say gradual movement to the lead leg side, are you referring to my lead leg or the opponents lead leg?

Point I was making is that he puts his punches together in ones and twos...lots of them, but he's not someone who puts together punches in bunches, it's a constant level of punch volume when he's at close range.
