Very cool video my friend. 👍 I found it very insightful even though I've been playing a double kick for approximately 40 years now. I agree with you in every way. It's best to start slow as well as working on technique and as you practice, the speed will start to come naturally. Also, to help prevent calf fatigue and cramping, make sure to adjust your throne to a height that causes the least amount of fatigue in general. It may take a while to find that sweet spot but once you do, you'll find that you are able to play for much longer than you may have thought. My thrown has a mark, so I know exactly where to set it now. Keep up the good work. 🙂👍🙏🙏🙏

Thank you for taking the time making such an informative and amazingly produced video. I can honestly say that if I went 100% into educational videos, they would look like this (except the falling off the throne part lol;) I have a gig coming up where I need to play 16ths at 170 and since I hardly ever play constant running double bass anymore I'm at about 130 pretty cleanly. But now I have a goal. Been trying to get my feet to adjust to the different technique needed by working on Alex Rudinger's practice routine. I realized I know how to do it with my right foot already since I do a lot of fast RF work in my Maiden tribute. Now it's training my brain and strengthening my left foot to do the same. I'll be working from your exercises as well and look forward to checking out your other vids. Keep up the great work!

Hopefully this helps comment helps someone who has been scrolling through videos forever trying to learn double kick- I'm someone learning to drum that's turned off by a lot of these videos feeling like I'm watching fitness instructors or drop shippers who happens to drum sell me courses while going through the motions with exercises. I think a lot of these videos miss the little things, like technique and pedal set-up. Any video can give exercises. It wasn't as much the lessons in this video, but the constant close-ups that finally made me realize almost all the drummers I've watched choke down on their peddles the faster they play. Foot is higher on the peddle on 1/4 and 1/8th notes, and moves down a bit on the 16th notes. I wish just one video pointed this out, but I finally got some consistent speed realizing this and tuning my peddle beaters and tension. That right there is literally half the battle. Once you get that you can do exercises until you can't do them anymore.

Anything related to the kick is turning into the biggest problem I'm having learning drums. There's so much physicality in single and double kick that I start off okay at the beginning of practice and by the end it feels like I can't kick with any power or have any note control. Which just means more practice. And now I have a lot more things to practice in terms of double kick!

The muscle development one, the one you called "Subdivision ladder" is my goto warmup before rehearsal with my band. I alternate one ladder with my hands around the kit and then one with my feet. I do add 32nd notes after the 16th note triplets. Five minutes at 60bpm, then 70, 80 and all the way up to 120. I love it because it gets my feet to wake up and my hands used to go around the kit instead of stuck at the snare.

if any of you plan on triggering your kicks at some point, you’re gonna want very high spring tension on your pedals, and your beater head tuned extremely tight (stuff it with blankets and use kick pads to eliminate the acoustic sound for recording). i prefer using flat heavy beaters but it’s all preference at that point

I am so much in love with your drums and the way you play and teach lessons on them, but the way you play dubol kicks , for me I have a single padol and not good. so teach me lessons that will help me learn how to play dubol kicks. Thank you teaching me. Am in Eastern Africa Uganda Maganjo Better life church. Thank you.

1:58 I think right foot is moving with multiple joints(with thigh, calf) but left foot seems like moving alone. Are there some reasons?
