IMHO, as a performance (vocals, energy, emotions etc) Montreal is definately in the top 2 live performances of Queen. What seals it for Wembley 86 is the crowd reaction. As a band, you know when you're nailing it and if that is driving the crowd wild, it pushes you to go one step further and do this kzread.info/dash/bejne/pGZ2281sqcXfppc.html Somebody to love was Freddie's favourite Queen song and because of how much it took out to sing it, it was saved for special occasions. Montreal has the best live version of the song but Wembley doesn't have it in the set list. If the crowd at Montreal was a bit more lively, I would have picked Montreal over Wembley.

Not closest to the greatest. Perhaps Oakland, Phoenix, and São Paulo are one of the greater performances in the same tour. Their best is either from the Newcastle nights in the Crazy Tour.

Thanks so much for including the article on how this was made! Noticed immediately that the editing is a bit off in places. The film cameras clearly weren't coordinated that well. *Note: I will turn on my film nerd mode now* ;-) First of all: this is very likely not anamorphic footage. Any anamorophic footage will lead to oval bokeh, the typical lens flare pattern and horizontally stretched (2x) film grain. This is VERY likely 35mm 4-perf, spherical (round bokeh, standard lens flare if present) very likely open matte/full height of frame exposed, so it could be framed for 3:4, 1:1.85 theatrical and now 16:9 without any zooming-in and cropping sides. The camera setup is not bad but I miss shots from John Deacon and above all else: Roger Taylor. None of his awesome fills are shown in a medium-close up. The bare minimum would be three cameras with 1000ft (= 10 minutes) magazines that change fast (back in the day it was fiddly in 35mm and took a couple minutes, now it takes seconds, depending on camera model). Camera 1: in the audience always filming the entire band, zooming-in is fine if the camera operator knows what he is doing - better not! Camera 2: always filming Freddie on piano, shutting off when he leaves for center stage. Camera 3: close to the stage to film an individual featured musician or a group - this one needs the very best camera operator and be offset (staggered) by 5 minutes with camera 1 to always overlap. A perfect set up is about 7-9 cameras including hand held from behind the stage, to have everything covered, no gaps and you have always at least one camera for the audience and one for B-Roll material (random audience shots, lighting, etc. everything non-sync for padding if anything is wrong or out of focus). You need to set up a room for the film loaders and co-ordinate the runners (that bring and collect the film magazines) and stagger the start times of cameras that run continuously (such as the camera that has always the entire stage from a distance. Also: the band members (or at least one who really knows such as Brian May or Freddie) need to be present to make sure the footage is all in sync and matching the sound - and they don't show the bass during a guitar solo or the wrong drum fill (all very common mistakes in concert footage edited by non-musicians). ANY good director or DP knows how to assemble a great camera team to shoot a rock concert and talks with the performers, tries to get along well - and asks how they would like it. It's their show - and they had Brian May, one of the smartest and most educated guys in rock history! Paul Swimmer very likely was not 100% competent, but at least he gave us a fantastic Queen concert on glorious 35mm film! Thanks for reading!
@SuperSM96
3 жыл бұрын
Have you had a chance to listen to Swimmer's commentary track on the 2001 DVD release? Its interesting because he goes into great length of describing how he filmed the concert and what he says he did is pretty much exactly what you suggested. He also describes some of the issues that he faced, especially regarding the coordination of the film cameras. For example, he explained that the headsets that the crew had to communicate between each other stopped working right at the beginning of the shooting, so he could not give instructions in real time to the camera operators, like he had planned. Ultimately, while the concert film is far from perfect, I think Swimmer really deserves more credit than Brian May gave him. From what I understand, the conflict that erupted between them was more because of a "creative difference" than incompetence; Swimmer wanted a spectacular film that could demonstrates his "Mobilevision" technology (at the expense of the audience at the moment of the filming), while the band wanted to play just for the live audience (with the filming being secondary). Admittedly, the Director should have done better at reconciliating everyone's wishes, but I guess the fact that the film was decided at the last minute (by Swimmer's own admission) made that more difficult.

LYRICS Open up your mind and let me step inside Rest your weary head and let your heart decide It's so easy when you know the rules It's so easy All you have to do is fall in love Play the game, everybody play the game Of love When you're feeling down and your resistance is low Light another cigarette and let yourself go This is your life, don't play hard to get It's a free world All you have to do is fall in love Play the game everybody play the game of love My game of love has just begun Love runs from my head down to my toes My love is pumping trough my veins Driving me insane Play the game, play the game Play the game, play the game Play the game everybody play the game of love This is your life, don't play hard to get It's a free world All you have to do is fall in love Play the game everybody play the game of love Your life, don't play hard to get It's a free world All you have to do is fall in love Play the game, play the game of love

Freddie had an innate talent for picking tone and pitch. I love the way he plays a few notes on the piano and then makes adjustments on the fly, in the middle of a concert.

And it could have been performed in The Works Tour (according to the site that keeps track of all Queen concerts) They performed 40 songs during the rehearsals for the 1st concert and Play the Game was one of the songs.
I can’t believe that one of their greatest performances (not including live aid) was in my country!

His Voice ♥

Freddie, Gatinho, lindo... Brilhe ,cante no Céu Vc falou que o chou não era pra para. Inesquecível. Todos da Banda E💯❤💛💓💓🥰😍🥰
