Happy New Year, friends!
The end of 2023 was hectic with the holidays, 2 family weddings, flying to Maine to pack our It’s Better Outside Store, and with some sickness thrown in there, we decided to take some time off to just be with each other through the end of the year.
But we are back for the 1st day of 2024 to share with you our circles around Grand Teton National Park and some of our favorite campsites in the area!
A few episodes ago, we showed you guys a new way to see what we think is the best view of the Tetons we have ever seen. If you missed us taking the chairlift up to that incredible view at the Grand Targhee Ski Resort, be sure to check it out here: • THIS WAS A MISTAKE | V...
This week we continue our travels with our friends, @travelingstephens, and couldn’t wait to share one of our favorite sites at a boondocking spot in Driggs, Idaho.
We only had a couple nights before our reservation at the National Park Campground - Gros Ventre, but we made the best of our time there. We shared some amazing meals, watched some incredible sunsets and sunrises, and the kids tubed down the river. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the moose we had heard were in the area! Maybe next time!
We headed over the Teton Pass which is the most intense grade we have driven, and this was our 2nd time driving it this year! It is a beautiful drive, and we are always thankful for the engine break when we take this route!
Gros Ventre was beautiful, but after Corey and Lily went to help Nathan and Marissa from Less Junk, More Journey find a parking spot at one of our top boondocking sites ever - Upper Teton View, we gave up our reservation and headed up to see if we could get a spot, too!
Stay tuned for next week as we head through Yellowstone National Park on our way to the Lippert Getaway! Be sure to like and subscribe and click on the bell icon for notifications when we release new videos!
Don’t wait to live your life, find your 🔆SOMEDAY🔆 now!

We avoided the Teton pass and went south around it from Island Park per the instructions from the camp office there. Longer drive bit it was beautiful as well.

    Incredible views of the Tetons from that final camping spot. I agree with you, a 10% grade you can feel a difference from a 6%. But you gotta love a diesel engine with the exhaust brake, takes the stress and white knuckle driving away so you can enjoy the journey.

    A Blessed and Happy New Year to all of you! Like always, beautiful video and great drone work. This is our favorite spot! I remember back in 2017, Nathan lost his drone on his way out, it just went rogue and flew away, we felt so bad for him. When we were there in 2021, the upper Teton view had a RV length restriction of 34 feet and our rig is longer then that, so it was a real bummer for us. Do they still have that restriction, or was it removed? When you mentioned needing to use brakes on your truck, going down the Teton pass, where you down in first gear and still needing brakes? I'm glad that you all were able to grab a spot up there together and have a great time. Thank you for sharing, as it was great to revisit that spot and the amazing views, even if only through your video. Safe and joyous travels!

    I drove Teton Pass from Jackson to Driggs in May of 2022 in my '98 Toyota Camry (172k miles on it) w/just myself and my sister (both under 140 lbs ea) and a car full of 10 days worth of road trip gear, nothing heavy (we were hoteling it every night). It was a slow, intense climb in a passenger car and I couldn't imagine attempting it towing an RV of any sizeable length. The back side of the pass didn't seem nearly as intense, not as many slow curves anyway, and I really loved the way the view opened up in front of us as we descending down into that valley (forget it's name). My sister and I stayed 3 days in the Teton/Jackson area and I had really wanted to drive up to Upper Teton View, but I could not find it to save my life. We were both completely floored by the Tetons. I'd always heard that pics and/or videos couldn't do them justice, that you couldn't really grasp the magnificence of the range unless you saw them with your own eyes right and, now having seem them for myself, I have to agree. I'll definitely be going back, someday soon I hope, and next time hopefully I can find Upper Teton View and pitch my tent for a week or so (if tent camping is allowed...are there any amenities there? water, toilets?).

    loragunning5394, If you type in Cunningham Cabin Historic site into google maps (zoom out when it comes up), Forrest Rd 30310 is right across the road (US Rte 191/26) from the entrance/pull off for the Cunningham Cabins Historic site. Once you turn on to FR30310, it is important to remember that about 3/4 of a mile in, you will come to a fork, where the road splits, but it is not noticeable, so it is easy to miss it. Keep right at that fork. If you look in the video as Cory was driving up, you can see that he hesitated slightly, almost going right, instead of left. If you switch maps to google earth, you will see the campsites. After the fork, it's another 4/10 of a mile and the campsites will be on your left. Take your time, go very slow... As for the Teton Pass, it's not really an issue, if you know how to drive up and down mountain passes. The main thing is to pick a lower gear, to keep the rpm higher, so the engine builds more power, and does not work as hard, and take your time, also stay in low gear on the down hill, so you don't use your breaks excessively, risking to overheat them. You pick a low enough of a gear where you hardly need to use your brakes, if at all, with the engine doing all of the braking. Relax, go slow and enjoy the amazing views, and you won't have any problems, whether towing or not.

    Nice scenery, I've not taken the pass before might do somewhere like that this summer. Last time I was near the Grand Tetons(1996) I was coming up from San Diego headed to the Colter Bay campground for a couple days then off to Yellowstone then Craters of the Moon to Death Valley then home. While on the Swan Lake trail there at Colter Bay we saw a mother moose with her very young calf out in the water, was great although there were a lot of people starting to gather so we got out of there, I had no desire to encounter a momma moose protecting her calf. The pictures I took back then was on 35mm film and I'm not sure where those pictures are these days or I would post one of the moose 😟

    Did you save $10 in gas to make up for not filling up for water earlier? It can't really cost that much more to fill up with water and drive four hours can it? Glad you guys are back, awesome videos, great quality, great music

  • @FindingOurSomeday

    @FindingOurSomeday

    Thank you for the compliment 🙏 In this case it wasn’t really about cost , it was about not taking a chance and overloading the suspension with 400 + extra lbs of water( causing axles to bend and leaf springs to break) Usually we find water for free. This is maybe the 2nd time in 6 years we spent money to just fill water. We couldn’t find a place to efficiently 2 rigs and didn’t want to waste time looking so we just stopped at a campground on our route. Many gas stations in that area have free dumps and water, we always fuel up at those locations.

    Going through Swan Valley by the Palisades reservoir is so much easier and less dangerous. It doesn't add that much to the trip and you just come into Jackson from the South. That 10% grade is nonsense.

    Sites like that are kinda frustrating. Most of us will be in that area once per lifetime, and there are so few sites available. I would almost rather they be reservable.

  • @FindingOurSomeday

    The ones on the outside edge are harder to get, but there is tons of room up at the top. It may just involve you parking for a night and taking one of the cool spots the next day. You definitely have to be more flexible with moving, but we have never gone and not gotten a site up there. I do think that trying to go during a shoulder season will increase your chances. The summer months in Tetons are crazy.

    If you type in Cunningham Cabin Historic site into google maps (zoom out when it comes up), Forrest Rd 30310 is right across the road (US Rte 191/26) from the entrance/pull off for the Cunningham Cabins Historic site.

  • @FindingOurSomeday

    @FindingOurSomeday

    7 ай бұрын

    I’m guessing on the initial release of the site you have to be handicapped, that was a cancellation that they got. The odds of another handicap person picking up a last minute cancellation are probably low so they just release it to anybody I’m guessing. We got put into a handicap site one time in Yosemite from a cancellation list. We didn’t know it was a handicap site until after the rangers checked us in.
