Hey there, Liron here!
I’ve been asked a lot about creating a sense of depth recently, and I thought it’ll be a fun idea to come up with a few relatively simple exercises for improving your ability to represent depth.
Here’s what I came up with:
1. Light to dark wash + Negative painting
2. Warm to cool wash + Negative painting
3. Color matching
By practicing these, one doesn’t guarantee the ability to paint depth. Rather, these are steps to help you find your own, favorite & original direction and method for painting a feeling of depth.
And remember - paintings are illusions! We merely make the viewer think they see something, but is it really there? 😉

Love the colour match exercise in particular. I'm thinking it would be a good way to warm up before starting the main painting of a session. Thanks!

Love these exercises, Liron. Very helpful particularly since I don't have any formal classes under my belt and learn primarily from observing others. Thank you for your generosity!
