    Here's an easier solution to muddiness: use a split primary palette. Mixing warm and cool is how lots of muddy mixtures are born (contrary to this video, yes it happens even with just 2 colors). Purples are brighter in cool primary and greens and oranges are brighter with warm primary. It's not that complicated ;)

    Youre SO good at what you do, it blows my mind! Usually with some things I have trouble understanding the way people explain things, but the way you explain everything, the way you demonstrate and show us, and how the painting is coming to life before our eyes, whilst being able to understand how we can use these techniques in our work, its just incredible to me, thank you so much for these videos!!! I truly hope I can be even close to as good an artist as you are!!🙏🏻🙌🏻💗

    My solution to beautiful clear bright colours is a clean water and a clean pallet. One touch of cyan in yellow paint and you have green! But this is just me. I like the white of the paper to shine through but then I love bright clear colours. There are no rules to watercolours. Yours are gorgeous too. Love watching you.

    Another wonderful tutorial. Thanks, Liron. Question: Would you consider doing a follow up video in which you show how to use three colors mixed *together* in parts of a painting without producing dull results. Also, I’ve read that “mouse” colors can amplify the effect of operatic colors, no?

  • @LironYan

    @LironYan

    2 жыл бұрын

    Definitely, will do that! And I have a few older vids showing this. I like this one in particular (it shows a little more mixing, but not too much): kzread.info/dash/bejne/jKGhzZiGZ9TNibQ.html And also a newer one (note how the background has a little more mixing = more grays), and as I move forward into the foreground I mix a maximum of 2 dominant colors - for the lit areas that is... for the shadows I still use a bit of a gray): kzread.info/dash/bejne/d4mVsJKQmdqXYLA.html As for mouse colors & operatic - not sure what these are 😅 Let me know haha!

  • @stinar37

    @stinar37

    @@LironYan thanks for response, and for the links. Will definitely check these out. In her book Making Color Sing (which I highly recommend,) Jeanne Dobie refers to muted/bland/flat colors as “mousey” as in quiet/timid, and vibrant colors as “operatic” (as in loud/intense like an opera singer’s voice). She says you never want two operatic colors next to each other, as it’s overload, unless you are going for that kind of effect. Instead, better to have an operatic color next to a mousey one. An example would be using muted colors around an eye that is a vibrant color to make the latter color really “sing.” Minor actor and “star” so to speak. I think you would find her book really interesting :)

    Sometimes even smaller details will require mixing a large amount, and using plenty of both water and paint as a basis. And then once you have a somewhat strong mix, you add to that more of the PAINT (very often more than you feel is necessary intuitively), and it should do the trick. I think I know what you mean, and it’s a little tricky to explain with words, so I may also film a vid showing this (:
