28th July 2021 - East Midlands Storms

Ойын-сауық

As an area of low pressure crossed the country it was introducing unseasonably cold air aloft. With just a small amount of surface heating this was expected to produce thunderstorms. Higher CAPE levels were in the north and stronger deep layer shear across the south. Where these met in Central areas there was a risk of organised thunderstorms

Dixie Alley is Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi isn't it? They seem to get it worst in March/April time from what I have seen. I have never witnessed a tornado. We do get them in the UK too but they are F0-F1 sized and rare. Not that anyone wants to see a tornado anywhere near there house!

A mammatus display is just a display of mammatus clouds. Mammatus clouds look a bit like cows udders and are caused by air descending inside the storm as opposed to rising. They are normally as a result of cold downdrafts around a thunderstorm, but not always.
