2600 class DMUs; 141/071/201 class GMs on passenger & freight in Sth Kilkenny (June '96)

Irish Rail's General Motors built 141, 071 & 201 class locos hauling freight and BREL Mark 2, Mark 3 & Mark 3 Push/Pull stock on Dublin Heuston - Waterford - Dublin Heuston passenger services in the Thomastown, Bennettsbridge & Gowran areas of Co. Kilkenny during June of 1996. 2600 class DMUs in the short lived 'Arrow' livery are also featured. The 3,200 horsepower 201s (the most powerful diesel loco to run on the network to date) had only recently been acquired by IÉ from GM in Ontario, Canada and were making their first appearances on the Waterford line.

Were you a fan of the 201s when they were brand new Danny, or were they viewed with the same contempt that every new class is shown and require some getting used to?

They seem to have used anything they had on that line. Push pull makes sense for Kilkenny though. What is that step thing at 8:42 for. Not really suitable for disability access it seems (?).

Steps were needed in Thomastown to board as there was a 2 foot drop to the platform!

The 2 girls were nieces of the people who lived there (now both sadly passed) and were employed by IÉ.
