Nice trip down memory lane. Point worth noting at 0:37 and 2:20 you can clearly see the driver surrenders the staff to the signalman but doesn't receive one to enter the section to Kilkenny. The reason being Thomastown - Kilkenny section was worked by track circuit block (TCB) and so a staff was not required. If a staff was required you would need three additional signal cabins; one at each of the Lavistown Junctions. The only place in Ireland that I can think of where this was the case was Bundoran Junction. Really like the video.

Many thanks Gerry. Yes you're correct it was track circuit operation to Kilkenny and probably was almost as far back as when Bennetsbridge station closed in the 60s.
You’re back, Danny! Nice to have some memories of these trains!

Yeah have a bit of time on my hands so putting it to good use restoring my backlog of 8mm tapes. Loads more to come.
Lovely footage. Seeing yer man smoking while working in the control car at 1:45 was gas, brings me right back to the 80s/90s when I was a kid.
Thank you from me as well. Due to covid my trip to Ireland is postponed to Hof knows when so its good to go virtual with you. Best wishes from Germany and stay safe folks!

Glad you enjoyed it Martin, the situation has at least given me a chance to do these vids. Plenty more to come too.
Awesome collection of classic power. I like the signalman/stationman at 2:50 wearing the token round his neck. So glad that people went to the trouble to keep this historic footage.

I'm glad I went to the trouble of filming them. Never thought they'd be so precious in the years to come.
Some great Roots blown 567 sound from the 121 & 141, those wagons sounded reluctant to move

@@joeykn9014 Not sure but I think the grain factory in Waterford (which is currently being demolished on the docks on the site of the proposed new station) ceased operation soon after.
Freight travelling on trains is important.
