I'm with you. Yes, Stone had a real chance of winning, but it's not like Gladstone was out of left field. She has the narrative this year and her win might be the only win her film gets. Stone already has an Oscar, which might work against her. Poor Things did perform well with nominations, but it's Oppenheimer that is this year's EEAAO, so she won't be riding the wave the same way Yeoh and JLC did last year. I'm leaning Gladstone. The lack of a BAFTA nomination does raise an eyebrow, but two years ago neither Close (the slight front runner,) nor Coleman (the eventual winner ) were nominated. It's definitely the closest of the acting races. I hope Gladstone wins though.

Hi Ryan, happy February to you. I got 4/5 categories correct. I went with Murphy because of the Oppenheimer express. The love for Oppenheimer is one of the strongest we have seen this century. It only really rivals EEAAO, Chicago, ROTK and Slumdog. It's the type of film, where people just check all the boxes. The only one I got wrong was Gladstone over Stone. I know you love your stats, and I got a good one for you. Since 2000, we have only seen three actresses win Best Actress without the most or tied for the most televised wins. They were Halle Berry, Olivia Colman, and Michelle Yeoh. Berry and Yeoh were both SAG winners and were seen as a milestone in color representation. Berry = first lead black woman. Yeoh = first Asian woman. Colman did not win the SAG, but she won BAFTA and most of the high end critics circle awards. Close was in a single nominee and didn't win many critics circle awards. When we look at Gladstone vs. Stone, we see that Gladstone has won about 24 awards to Stone's 18. To me, it feels like Gladstone is heading down the same trajectory as Berry and Yeoh. The only real difference is that BAFTA omission (I don't use the word snub). Yeoh and Berry were both up for the BAFTA. Only Berry was up for the BAFTA in the next calendar year. Are you leading toward Emma or Lily? Either way, the letters Stone will appear on the Oscar envelope.

All 4 acting wins have been my favourite performances of the year & my picks in their categories from the beginning. Words can’t express how much I want Cillian Murphy to be an Oscar winner. His performance in Oppenheimer was extraordinary to me. I haven’t been that astonished by a performance in a long time. I’m so glad this is his year. 👏 Lily Gladstone was just so powerful to me in Killers. To stand amongst & outshine two of the biggest actors in Hollywood was refreshing. I know there are arguments she’s not lead. She’s not in it enough. I don’t agree. Lily has every right to be in her category. There is precedent to past winners. She has every right to win. And I hope she does take the Oscar. These two roles from Cillian & Lily feel like wins not only for them but for reserved, subtle, nuanced, internalised type of acting. It’s rare these kind performances win over the bigger, showier ones.

Hence her being my favorite actress. So it would have been fun to see her get the recognition she absolutely deserves and get another oscar. But at the end of the day the oscars don't matter and I'll look forward to her next project: Kinds of Kindness (also still waiting for that Cruella sequel)

An oscar, Sag and golden globe -- all came lily's way largely because they had to ensure someone from the native american community wins these accolades. Had this movie not been based on one of the native American tribes and she did not belong to the same tribe, she had no chance to win. And, as everyone's saying, this is probably her first and last time winning these big awards. Hard for her to win anything again! She cannot do some regular movie and win big! Her acting skills are not above par!

I'm sorry but after watching Emma Stone in Poor Things, Lily's performance feels so so inferior. And can we put an end to this 'she's too young to win 2 nd oscar' shit? When you give a performance like Bella Baxter, you are bound to win everything. That transformation and growth. I haven't seen in a while from an actress. Fuck Gladstone', give Emma the Oscar is my opinion. Lily is just very lucky. She has Scorsese and DiCaprio, 2 biggest names in the industry, behind her campaigning. That's how in the first place she got the lead actress thing. She's clearly supporting and no matter how good she is, people need to own up to it. But lately Oscar has been giving narratives win more than talent. So yeah, maybe they will award Gladstone but truly, if we are talking talented performances it's between 3 to me: Stone Huller and Lee( Lee's subtle performance was way more impactful and humane to me than Gladstone. Just because Song is new and upcoming, Lee didn't get much recognition this year. But in true sense, her performance in Past Lives was a tour de force. And also Sandra Huller, I'm so happy. She also gave a breathtaking performance. Unfortunately, talents have to see narratives win.)
