Tritium have certainly caused stress for EV drivers with their terrible reliability. It's sad but a lesson in the importance of reliability

It's infuriating. The industry shift to EV is removing what, 95% of a car's moving parts & drivetrain complexity. I thought for sure we'd be seeing instant, obvious reliability well into the 300,000 kms zone - it's just a big battery & four motors. I know it's more complex of course, suspension systems have to incorporate all the extra weight - but no more engines, no more transmissions, no fuel systems, cooling systems, the industry has no excuse but to provide incredible reliability. It's not like we're not paying a premium for the parts that are no longer there anymore.

Heat, dust and vibration always have been and always will be the enemy of electronic components and Australia has it in unlimited supply. That is why EVs will only be a token niche market for city dwellers and nothing more.

@@indeepeterhopwood8106 Token niche? Tell me you're joking. You don't have to LIKE the EV market, but to suggest this is just a fad for yuppies is ignoring the huge investments in infrastructure & battery tech. It's not tough to fall victim to the petro-purchased hit-pieces on how EV tech is apparently dying on the vine, that smut is everywhere. Australia is hotter & dustier than North America, but that doesn't mean EV's will always fail. I despise Elon - absolutely hate him, tbh, but every year, the Tesla battery tech gets more resilient & better at self-management. Canadian winters (colder than Moscow) have inspired battery protection systems that prevent battery damage in -40C weather. Australia & the middle east will likely be the proving grounds for batteries in 50C weather. The tech will improve & adapt. I can't afford a worthwhile EV yet, but I know I will - it's evolving so quickly, that paying for one over 5yrs isn't smart money. But there are brands that just push out the worst EV's, there are gov'ts who push out weak infrastructure, but ultimately EV's will dominate. We need to remember how petro corps gouged us in every possible way, refused to drill so shareholders would get rich from record high prices, while we took it up the manifold. An unreliable charging network or individual EV (whoever alleged Mitsubishis were reliable anyway?) won't dictate the entire industry. Exxon & Shell would love if it were that simple to fool the public, but a $55k EV with AWD that puts out Lamborghini power isn't exactly a ripoff. Genesis GV60 is the one I have my eye on. It's not only the rich, it's just people who can buy the cars outright so depreciation isn't a problem. Someone buys a Nissan Leaf or a Chevy Bolt is going to have a bad experience, of course, they're garbage -but those who do their homework won't suffer.

100% need total cost of ownership for EVs. Tyre wear. Insurance, resale value after 3 years. Service costs. Compared to equivalent RAV hybrid…. If you want to get adventurous, would like to see CO2 in production compared (note Volvo publishes their figures) and how many km driven needed to overcome initial production emissions. Hint John Cadogan does the maths for you see @AutoExpertJC.

I just got a new triton work car… can agree the driver assist systems are infuriating… the steps to turn the driver attention warning off isn’t a 2 second job also. I am however hugely impressed in the refinement and the fuel economy is exceptional.

There's a shortcut button that get's you to the setting to turn it off much quicker than navigating the traditional way. Eventually it becomes second nature to turn it off. Shouldn't have to thought, but also understand Mitsubishi did it to ensure full ANCAP rating. Word is, there is a software update coming to make it less sensitive. Take that with a grain of salt i'd say...

I think it would be a tough uphill battle for Kia. When even the current ancient hilux has 500nm 4 banger diesel, reported 440nm 2.2 turbodiesel is not competitive. And the 6 cylinder diesel Toyota now has 700nm (over 500 foot pounds). Unless this thing is as cheap as chinese UTE (hint it won't be) it be a tough sell. Stuck in the awkward middle-ground

We have the engineering know how for EV chargers , I can 100% guarantee that. it's not rocket science. It's purely a business/cultural/competitive manufacturing ability issue . There's bigger issues at play though that probably make it a moot point.. If you can't charge at home, at a rate that works for you , then don't bother with an EV.. Public charging is purely opportunistic atm . Don't rely on it.
