Thanks, Paul. I’ve got a suggestion: It’s great that you tell us about car functionality / behaviour that you don’t like, but could you also tell us if these issues can be mitigated / disabled? eg. “Sports” mode heavy steering. eg. Auto engine Stop / Start. eg. Lane Departure assist. eg. Slow Auto gearbox kickdown. eg. Propensity to change up to too high a gear for a given speed. eg. Driver Monitoring. eg. Auto Emergency Braking. My ‘24 Outback XT has nearly all of these unwanted behaviours, but I can disable / get around all of them. Unwanted behaviours can be deal breakers if they can’t be disabled.

Hey Paul, love your reviews. I actually went to see this in real life and found out that it's a massive car and will require a big garage, meaning it will not fit in your average garage. Length wise, it's a bit longer than a CX9. So if anyone is planning on buying one, I would recommend getting a test drive park in your garage and see if it fits.

@@audiophile1838That’s such a bullshit justification for these stupid things. Aside from the obvious retort being “try contraception next time…”, these stupid oversized SUVs are not designed to be space efficient or prioritise usability for multiple passengers. They have less space in them than infinitely better designs like the good old fashioned people mover. A Renault Scenic had more room in it than this stupid thing. No, spare me the whole “but families” line - it’s all about fashion and being bigger than everyone else. They’re a dumb car for dumb people.

Mazda cx-60 and cx-90 look too Mazda. I personally don't think they look like what their prices suggest. They look good and that's it. With the current exterior design, the subpar premium interior, it's a bold call to ask for a bag of money even they are cheaper than the competitors. I've called several Mazda dealers, they have cx-60 stocks for most of the trims with discounts, and that says something in 2023. I've also spoken to some friends and they won't mind at all to spend 15k-20k extra on the x3 if they have to spend 70K on a car already which is the price for the cx-60 (not the base model). TBH, if you compare X3 to cx-60, BMW's interior is at least one level above. You can't deny the power of the badge when you ask for a premium price. I would say this, if Mazda offers the similar hybrid engines (not PHEV) as Lexus, it will be a much easier sell. These days in 2023, I'm really not sure how you can sell v6 petrol or even diesel engines on family vehicles without being super performant (like the German v6 competitors). Plus, I've tried the cx-60 and X3, X3 drives much better. I mean much. A Lexus ES hybrid (300h) is 73K drive away. I know it's a sedan not a SUV. But it's a proper big family car with a proper premium interior and a premium badge. This cx-90 to me is in an even worse situation than the cx-60. To me, the only chance I would consider Mazda is the potential reliability. But TBH, if I spend 70K/80k on a car, I would trade it in for my next car after 5 years. If you can afford a 80k car, how much you would truely care about the depreciation.

Nice review guys and some interesting insights. I had great hopes when I heard that Toyota and Maza were working together on a straight 6 petrol and a straight 6 diesel. The Diesel Straight 6 was a great thought and in the EV crazy world we live in ATM. 1. The +ives. Would have delivered great economy and a long engine life. Much longer than an EV. 2. The build quality of the CX-90s is exceptional. Body panels with 3-4 mm all around the car. Apparently, people who work in that plant in Japan have to have many years of experience - ie: People who do a very high quality job are recognised in Mazda for that. 3. Engine performance great and reliability and performance of a straight 6 so much better than a V6. 4. Ergonomics inside are great. However, the negatives for me. 5. Another review I saw it looks like the timing chain is at the back of the engine. So you have to drop the engine out to do anything at the back of the engine. ie: Sell it before you get to 150,000 kms. Lots of expensive maintenance implications down the track and not just timing chain. 6. If You get rear ended and you've lost not just the bumper area but the hatch as well. Its got the back end profile of Roger Ramjets face - side on. 7. ICE/Hybrid integration - looks very ordinary what has been delivered, and in keeping with what we normally get from Mazda. A question 8. Is the spare a full size or a run flat? Mazda typically give run flat tyres which might be ok to get you to your local Bob Janes in the CBD but if travelling Brisbane to Melbourne as sometimes do, could be a real PIA.

But again, who needs power in a family SUV not destined for offroading?!! Blind spot cameras, heated & cooled seats both front & middle row, better room in third row with better AC cooling, way better appointed interior with better materials, Hyundai Bluelink service, remote parking assist feature, better 360° cameras, way better music system, more interior colour options, actual full-time working touchscreen,.... If you look at the inner driver's side seat at 7:35, you will see a sticker that says "SRS Airbag." That is the front, center airbag, a great safety feature that the CX-90s in the USA do not have.

Regarding the mirrors, ever since they switched to their Skyactiv line up they have been using two different types of mirrors. For passenger side they use a Convex type so you get a wide angle but unfortunately use a flat mirror for the drivers side hence the narrow view. I found out that in the America and I think Canada as well that this is standard fitting on all cars not just Mazda. Unfortunately for the rest of world we don’t get a Convex mirror for the drivers. I guess it’s cheaper for Mazda to swap them around from LHD to RHD.

This demonstrates the kickdown and transmission response all which you're not doing in your test which would more closely simulate a passing time.

Also all the people writing dumb comments here have no idea what a commparably equipped german model even costs. Go to the Mercedes website and build a GLS...
