Just love the fact that they have gone with a in-line 6 turbo. Looks nice as well. Costly though, but seems like an improvement.

Mazda's designs are so balanced, never trying too hard to impress but does enough to not come off as being boring. A sensible car company to lean to, when your brain is about to explode from so many other options.

The review I’ve been waiting for. Great job @Paul🙏🏽🙏🏽
The US reviews have been very very good for the CX90. When compared to the usual FWD driving the rear wheels the CX90 will be miles ahead. That 3.3 inline 6 does sound delicious ❤️ As long as Mazda and get people to drive it they will sell here and in the USA

That's the problem... 90% of Amarican's only test drive one car before signing their life away... I cant tell you how many of my friends that drive Honda's, Toyota's, Hyundai/KIA's have sat in my Mazda 6 Signature and verbally went "holy fck, how much was this!?" and instantly had buyers remorse for their cars. Mazda is far far too underrated, and not enough American's cross shop, they either buy off a cars looks or off name recognition like Camry and Accord alone.

It really is a great looking and well designed suv, the rear still growing on me but other than that outstanding. I think the only thing they could have done better, is accelerating from a stop. Throttle house already put the CX-90 to race against the GLE and X5 and it doesn’t match them taking off, however on the rolling race all three were almost evenly matched. Looks great inside and out ! Do you have any towing Specs ? I.E braked V unbraked ? I believe 8 ltrs per 100 not to bad ! It can only improve once the engine free's up ! And and it's a shame that you didn't give a 30 second Sticky beak at the motor ! $75 grand maybe but I think $95 + is a bit greedy ! Particularly when U.S Pricing for the top spec cars starts at U.S $ 53,grand and no I'm not forgetting shipping costs just another thing thing Australia is being screwed over with It's a major concern that the timing chain is fitted to the rear of the motor ! So replacing it is a mammoth event ! Involving dismantling most of the front clip just to remove the motor !
Howdoes it compare with the VW toureg
I'm not a crossover type of guy (I will not call it SUV as it is just a big hatchback, imo) as I'm more into sedan and wagon but this car looks great and not overly filled with dumb gimmicky stuffs. I don't mind the lack of touchscreen, electronic rear seat drop as they're not labour consuming for me, I can live with these. Fewer electronics, less problem it will be. I also appreciate the physical a/c buttons because incorporating it into the screen is really dumb.
@jerrymyahzcat

If it’s built on its own platform it’s an SUV (monocoque OR body on frame). A Crossover is a vehicle that’s built on a passenger car platform but raised up a little “like” an SUV so sits a little higher and has a little more ground clearance. So a CX-5 is a Compact Crossover as it’s based on the Mazda3 and Mazda6 platform which are passenger cars.
you should also point out a brand new skyactive-X 3.0 liter inline 6 for our european market as well. for now we only have the cx60 that is now offered with the 2.5 PHEV and the 3.3 diesel ,and the cx80 coming in about a years time ,with probably the premiere of the 3.0 skyactive-X to our market.
Looks like they haven’t gone face level vents for third row still. Very useful in a hot Australian climate.
Now Mazda needs to put that inline 6 turbo engine in Mazda 6 or 3 body, that would be such awesome car.

Some advice, don't stop at red lights at night😅.
Quite simply, Mazda is going to price themselves out of the market. I am buggered if i know how it cost the manufacturers that amount for paint for each car. It is just another way to make a higher profit. I own a Mazda and am very happy with it but with their pricing now, it wont be another one. The problem with these motor noters is that they try and justify the higher prices by their comments. We in Australia constantly get ripped off by the manufacturers and then the dealers when you look t the pricing of vehicles overseas.

I live outside Australia and the price difference here between the Mazda and the Germans isn’t that significant. Owning a Mazda CX-9 and a German car, I can say the rest of the ownership experience is significantly better with a German car. Was excited by this for years, but just don’t see why I would buy one at the price.
Very nice car actually but I really doubt the idea of getting into luxury sector for Mazda. Market positioning is important.
$90k to $100k is probably right - somewhere in between the top-level non-premium SUVs (CX-5 etc), and the x5 which starts at around $130k.

I'm also noticing a lot of road noise in Paul's drive - not sure if it's a mic issue or typical Mazda crappy insulation...
So, basically its a CX9 but with a bigger engine?
Hi Paul, can you review the facelifted 2023 CX-8?
Looks like a nice car, and good value if you are looking at from a luxury car category. The 8ltr/100km claimed average fuel consumption makes sense when paired to a mild hybrid setup, but truth will be in the testing. 100k is not an everyday affordable family vehicle. The way Mazda is going (CX60,80,90) they will price themselves out of the main market, and be competing at the Merc, BWM etc end, including against luxury brand recognition. Mazda need to have a model that competes against including price the Toyota (e.g Kluger) , Subaru (Outback), Hyundai ( Santa Fe), Kia (Sorrento) , Tesla (Model Y). As kids get taller (our 15yo is 10 cm off 6 foot), families will need the longer wheel base cars at an affordable price including electric/Hybrid, and Mazda doesn't have an affordable model in that segment. We are looking at moving from a Camry HL hybrid to one of the above in the next couple of years, as the Camry can't take the download of 4 ebikes. And, from researching the Subaru outback is top of list due to being a great value comfortable car with excellent towbar download , the rumoured Outback hybrid using Toyota's hybrid system (Toyota own a percentage of Mazda), would be a great package (Mazda could do the same due to Toyota owning a percentage of Mazda, which would be great in a CX80).
I like the look of everything so far. Curious to see how it'd handle a little off-roading when it's out.
