2024 Kia Telluride X-Pro (inc. 0-100) review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is an SUV I wish we got in Australia. It's Kia's version of the Hyundai Palisade and it's only produced in left-hand drive, which means we don't get it in Australia. But, we went to the US to have a test drive to see exactly what we're missing out on with the off-road focused X-Pro version.

    Great SUV, rubbish engine. It would be a great fit in Australia, but with the 2.5 turbo-petrol 4-cylinder engine from the Hyundai Sonata N-Line, much more torque than the V6 N/A engine; 213kw and 422Nm. Toyota in Australia has dropped the V6 petrol engine from the Kluger, replaced it with a 2.4 turbo-petrol engine, excellent increase in torque for a more relaxed driving experience. Maybe in the future Kia/Hyundai could add some hybrid technology to the 2.5 T engine. To be used in new Hyundai Sante Fe in the future and also future Sorento from Kia - diesel will be dropped in the next 10 years for SUV's in my opinion.

    Fantastic review Paul. The Telluride would fit in the Aussie market perfectly. I wouldn't be surprised if it became a hit. Point of correction on the cargo space. It's actually 21 cu ft (594 L) behind the 3rd row which is class leading.

    I thought years ago when Hyundai Australia was considering bringing in either the Palisade or Kia with the Telluride, I was hoping the Kia offering as it is a much better looking platform. Alas, we were lumped with the Palisade which is quite awkward looking. I think if the Telluride was available in Australia, then they would sell quite a few. This would probably improve greatly if offered with a hybrid powertrain as this NA petrol variant is quite thirsty and would dissuade quite a few potential buyers.

  • @Richard-sl8we

    @Richard-sl8we

    Ай бұрын

    The volume in Australia is too small to justify selling this in RHD. For perspective, less than 900 Hyundai Palisade's were sold new in 2023. A total of around 10,400 Toyota Kluger's were sold new in 2023; Kluger being sourced from the USA. I believe the Palisade and Telluride are too big for families in Australia; most people buy the Kluger, Sorento and Sante Fe. The new 2024/2025 Sante Fe is due to launch soon in Oz, very different look. Will only be available in a 1.6 petrol-turbo hybrid.

    The new Kia Sorento has arrived in Australia, different powertrain options in Australia vs USA. Australia also get 7 year warranty from Kia, 5 years in the USA. Is the 2.5 litre 4-cylinder engine turbocharged? We hope to get that engine soon in Australia.

    Its interesting, how we don't have this car here, but we have most of the other models in the Kia/Hyundai lineup. Like toyota, maybe that v6 may be good with a couple of turbos. Speaking of types of engines. Americans prefer the Petrol engines more than Diesels, I wonder why Diesels are still preferred here in Aust. Especially when we have that Ute tax in the near future.

I believe both the Palisade and Telluride are just too big for Australia; the sweet spot for families is the Kluger, Sorento and Sante Fe; where hybrid will dominate in the next few years in my opinion. Telluride is a town in Colorado - and the Car should come to Australia. I thought when we got the Pallisade that the Telluride would follow soon after. It’s a nicer car. Grey colour for cars is nasty. So bland and boring.

    Absolutely, I have always liked it over the palisade. More rugged looking. I think it will come once the Muricans have had their fill of it. Also I have this theory Hyundai treats KIA like a nasty older sibling. It calls dibs on all the preferred markets where sales are middling perhaps, and once it plans to bring a new Hyundai in that’s when kia is allowed to step into it shadow.
